I see them in reflections - the orange juice glass at breakfast or my iPhone where they can pop, like notifications - I keep my phone face down.
They usually want to tell you something - how it was for them - their history. I discount these emotional messages - they come with the jester's assumption that I care - that I need the performance and will get involved.
“What are you doing?” My mom asks, as I’m taking all the shiny, mirror-like ornaments off the Christmas tree.
“The glare gives me a headache” I say, without stopping.
“Your Grandma does that too”, she says, wiping her hands on a Santa-themed dish-towel.
“Really?” I say, but I know that and I know why.
I started having nightmares, when I was in first grade. My mom thought I had an overactive imagination but when she described it to my grandma, she soon showed up for a visit.
Over the next few weeks my Grandma told me about our “gift”. About how we were both born on the same day, under a waning third moon, in Autumn. That we're both “Yins,” doxies (sweethearts) of the dead and that we could, at times, see and hear people who were between stops on their way to their after-lives.
That’s why the dead parachute into my unused moments from reflective surfaces. They can be anxious or in despair - when their death is cruel or sudden but I'm an adolescent - I'm in school - what can I do??
The presence of water discourages them - which is perfect - can you imagine seeing spirits in the reflections of your bath? EEUUUWWW! You’ll hardly ever see me without a water bottle or polarized sunglasses - which seem to break-up the images. I'll not be smothered in other people's afterlives.
It started with dry leaves
pirouetting around
the yard on the back
of a skittish breeze,
the magnolia rubbing
against the fence
as if scratching an itch,
a few raindrops teasing
a thirst. Then,
distant thunder.
The sound seemed to cue
a tightening in the core,
an instinctive brace against
what was to come. Soon,
a sudden flash…
followed by a loud crack
and a shudder sent rolling
through the guts of every
living thing.
Wind clawed at seams,
unpicking the afternoon
to fling leaf, branch
and limb into tumbling air,
cartwheeling chairs across
the lawn. Hailstones tore
the fragile into bite size bits,
beheading blooms before
suddenly stopping
and crusting the ground
in a white shroud
of innocence.
It was over. An unusual quiet
let soft sounds soothe
the air - trickling water,
the tap of weighted leaves
shedding raindrops,
murmurings of ice melt.
I felt an easing
as if an anger within me
had been released
leaving only a sigh.
A mirror that ponders ere it reflects
On images gathered on facts,
Is it what we call consciousness?
All-alive human awareness?
A bit afraid I’m jealous,
And I won’t confess, but quite nervous.
Prajnyanam Brahmn, Upanishads said,
Knowledge for nirvana, what a handy maid!
Universal in nature and for all,
Not a thing proprietorial,
Not a gift given to humans alone,
A wave is wave and a part of mighty ocean
So is rising from well within
Consciousness how so thin--
One that wakes up all of a sudden
When everything that be known is known,
Like a poet absorbs it all
And poetry is born like a natural fall,
There’s nothing from it to recoil,
Seeds sown, watered well, sprout from soil.

Note: Continuation from ‘AI that poses who I am’.
Whether we’re high up in the mountains, on a beach
headed into the woods, near a floating dock…
We love any opportunity we can…to take a ‘little things walk’.
That’s a walk we take…usually around two miles
Where we look for all the little things along the way that make us smile.
This morning we chose the beach while still dark…thinking it’d be wise
to catch the full moon and stars before they fade away
then the sun when it was her time to rise.
We were out before the fishermen…enjoying the cool morning breeze
as the moon lit up the water and peeked at us through the trees.
With the full moon lighting our path…
We noticed from the ocean waves…not the slightest sound was made
as if they didn’t want to steal the thunder of the cricket serenade.
It was quiet enough to hear the sand crunch beneath our feet
as we slowly walked along
when all of a sudden birds we could not see…began to sing their morning songs.
As the sun began to lighten the sky…we spied…well within our reach
sea gulls and pelicans flying overhead…
and little yellow flowers that make their home along the beach.
We watched the sky change slowly
as the moon, realizing her evening in this sky was done…
ever so slowly ceded her time to the radiant colors of the sun.
Near the end of our walk the fishermen began arriving
then a friend and her dog we found…about to take a kayak trip
across St. Joseph Sound.
It’s funny when we take a ‘little things walk
be it Spring, Summer, Winter or Fall…
how often we find all those little things that make us smile
are not so little after all.
I planned a trip to tropical island
accompanied by a group of close friends.
On way, one night we were compelled to spend
at rest house for a party that ran grand.
Sumptuous tasty food ! Each to relish.
Twelve guys with five young girls and seven boys :
Fountain of champagne with cheers ! Loud noise.
Whiskey, red wine, cocktail, mocktail : all finished.
Entertainment reached peak touching summit.
Against will, forced to drink lot turning tipsy.
Soon failed to open eyes , feeling drowsy.
Needed help to lie on bed , I admit.
As I woke up, my friends dragged me to shore.
When we arrived at island , I couldn't recollect.
Felt grateful to those who were to select
such a nice place to enchant and allure.
They told, how they carried me half sleepy.
All ridiculed me stating last night's event.
That's a part of clean fun and enjoyment.
Sea waves thrashed on beach ! Feeling so happy.
Wished to extend visit , staying alone,
for a longer period, few days more,
not only for scenic beauty but to explore
the tropical island turning each stone.
They left me on the solitary beach.
Slowly I was embowered with mist and fog.
Got alarmed on sudden howling of dogs.
Ran and ran to escape out of their reach.
Chased by dogs, tumbled, rolled and to slip !
Breathing heavy to run in hazy mist :
Had a great fall wrapping the thick bed sheet.
Woke up from the hang over and deep sleep.
MILL WHEEL
The mill wheel wouldn’t turn till the Spring
‘CLOSED’ notice hanging at closed door on a string.
Snowfall on pavement, snowfall on road turning hard ice.
Customers remembered miller as he was friendly and nice.
Winter was frosty with chilled windy breeze.
Off and on snow drizzling, sometimes to cease.
Sudden disappearance of the miller made all stunned.
Neither any information received, nor the miller returned.
Whisper ran through the town from door to door,
as police came on inquiry: How to ignore?
They came on verification of passport renewal.
Splendid surprise awaiting on miller’s arrival.
Miller is going abroad on honeymoon trip with new bride.
Passport-issue is solved, and everybody gets relieved.
Season changes to Spring naturally, no freaks.
Ice melts, revealing secrets, wheel creaks.

' One, nine, sixteen v3.0' Contest by Viv Wigley
This sudden urge I've come to feel is
rapture at my gate
Not more on sudden than is subtle but
weary of this spate
Thoughts of dreams, realities obscene
and too depraved
Quite more on nightmares than dwelt
dreams yet dark and highly craved
Consumes my mind on vulture plains
devouring to ensnare
Despising law and hearts thereof
perpetuating air
Loosed in my twisted reasoning twisted
as in psycho strange
To understand this feeling you need feel
as do the crazed.
Constituting heart is a melody of nature
but as I hear it playing is my symphony in
gesture
As the organ sounds flows the flood of
tainted scarlet.
Leaving all but dense perfume and a taste
of cupcake velvet.
This wretched place I know is my bound
while I am bleeding
Not much bleeding as in breathing but
nonetheless demeaning
This occupation begs by night, entombs
me and enslaves
Preoccupying binding shadows, darkness
is my subtle crave
Curse those who curse highway
The spell leading wheels astray
By which clutch and break betray
Commands, drivers' feet convey
To lay every prayers hope on may
Curse those who curse the breeze
Summoned by the darkened decrees
Eyes, heart even not mind foresees
The danger that is about to sneeze
Holding unto time to make moment unease
Curse those who want blood
Red, blue, black flowing flood
That spirits move and scud
What a sudden end planted in mud!
By humility, tears run lips, thud.
Forgive the highway thieves
Toasting the pleasant eves
By rounds aleatory weaves
Foreshadowed in grieves
Only, by chance, luck retrieves
Forgive the highway whores
Whose bodies never let time ignores
Men's races wanting encores
In the name of drugs from different stores
To lasting on battlefield pleasure adores
Forgive highway trailers
Conveying goods and wholesalers
Taking no cognizance of the retailers
Motor boy's eyes troubled inhalers
Who fears not joining jailers
Forgive highway's Police
Whose charge never decrease
For respect to be apiece
And smiles love having peace
Yet money comes before the release
Forgive the reckless drivers
Who drinks and pray cum survivors
Won't you forgive those that put them on the highway
That to no avail, their aims betray
When the Earth was in danger 5 /8
Prelude (For Prelude please see part 1 )
Watching the changing season all around, to enchant the dance of Urvashi*,
The Earth began to dance too, thinking that Urvashi’s* dance would save the earth,
What a splendid scene it was, which was spreading a magic everywhere on earth,
No one had ever witnessed this beauty and grandeur,
Neither anywhere in the heaven, nor anywhere even on earth.
Breathless and motionless they were watching only,
Under the influence of intoxication, produced by the seasons Goddess Spring,
The last efforts of Urvashi,* to save the earth and all its beautiful creatures. 19
Suddenly a shocking incident took place, shattering the hopes of everyone,
While dancing with Lord Shiva, pride entered into the mind of Urvashi*,
She began to think that she was performing her dance,
as good as that of Lord Shiva*, and
This thought began to disturb her mind,
disturbing the coolness of her flawless dance. 20
Watching the seed of pride, sprouted in the mind of Urvashi*.
The Goddess Earth, ‘Dhara’* thought, “Now the destruction is inevitable,”
If not stopped immediately, the seed of pride rising high in Urvashi’s mind,
Could become the cause of Shiva’s rage and the destruction of our Earth and the Universe.
Not only she too would burnt alive in the cosmic heat of Shiva’s third eye*, but
The whole of this beautiful Earth and the wonderful Universe too would be,
In flames of that cosmic heat and life from this most beautiful planet,
Would vanish forever and forever. 21
A sudden incident took place in that moment, which disturbed the balance of Urvashi,
Urvashi* fell on the ground, while she was at the peak of her divine dance,
Her dance came to a abrupt halt and with that even Shiva’s Tandava* stopped too,
Lord Shiva opened his eyes to see,
What had happened, which forced him to stop his dance suddenly.

I have read an article today
an eye opener not even surprised remotely
where the minister of justice
running to a meeting hard pressed
has cast vote, on and behalf of another fraud member
Admitting being part of a rigging system
where a person can be two places at one time
treason is the highest ranked form of betrayal
illegal moves spoken of and recorded
like it will die on the wind a sudden death
Then put down as normal practice in such cases
begs a mind to wonder how guilty works
not a bit wonder their travel allowance
amounts to thousands weekly on expenses
shameful politics to say the very least
Then the 2 billion euro robbery is still not capped
like a gold mine they keep fleecing the treasury
with no regards to the humans suffering
Maybe the sheep will wake up eventually
they always say we live in hope for a better future
the biggest crooks work in government
kept in power by corrupt judges
those all shackled and tarred with the one brush
