This is the story of an animal trainer,
Whose mettle and courage, couldn't be plainer.
A search'd reveal if you'd care to explore,
None greater exists than El Eleanor.
She's faced the very meanest big game
And transformed them all , smiling and tame.
There's Big Daddy Harry, King of the Brood,
He fights in the jungle and brings home the food.
When the hunting is hard, his scorn can be raw.
El soothes the pain, takes a thorn from the Pa.
The next animal is Rusty the Red.
The patron saint of unmade beds.
A beast of habits, bad ones galore,
His head s in the clouds, his, clothes on the floor.
El's plans are to put an end to his bad mannered life,
By chasing him within,an inch, of. his wife.
Lindsey's the next, she's no longer wild.
El taught her well when she was. a child,
Out of the home and into the night,
She's now a trainer in her own right.,
By way of taming by putting a smile on,
She's done a dog, a .cat, and one big Italian.
The animal Robert likes his milk whole,
Drinks only unmixed, unopened and cold.
Devour, he can, a whole pound of meat,
Sharing with him sure ain't a treat.
El''s main defense against his devour'n,
Is a refrigerator as big as a cavern.
Next on the tour tour is Kristin Clothes-Horse.
Her closet is full, but never her purse.
El hopes to prevent a new"confederacy"
One which would a poor man, namely, "Poverty Lee".
Now we find Jenny the Baker.
With time, she's become quite the good pastry maker.
Jenny however''s a wrestling cook,
An odd combination that's not in the book,
She has her own reasons, for truth to tell, son,
The cooking is a wrestling move called a"full Nelson".
Hilary's a creature who likes to get around
In automobiles at the speed of sound.
She doesn't always though, 'specially not at night,
Then she likes to travel at the speed of light.
It's hard to see now but she's on the track, you see,
Of her own future business - called Hilary's Taxis.
Nori's the last, but not the least,
A full member of this zoo, and like the rest a beast.
A paradox of sorts, this Blue Prize winner,
Is proof that church schools are chock full of sinners,
Thus we are the animal house,
And though we may complain and grouse,
Everyone, no matter his status,
Thinks El Eleanor's got to be, the World's Greatest!
Happy Fifty-fifth Birthday,
From son Rusty,

Sold For Three Trillion Dollars

I have something precious that money cannot buy, no matter how hard you try to convince me that money can make me happy, I would be living a lie if I sit by your side without a dime in my purse and continue to work in the dirt, that is not what I mean, I need the money to fulfill a part of my dream but it cannot make me happy.

I still cannot believe that it is true, that you have searched the whole world through and you could not find a single one that you can understand, and when the nights gets cold you wrap a towel around your soul and walked out in the snow and let the night air penetrates your skin and somewhere in the universe, your soul mate is playing a different rhythm.

I just cannot hold back the tears, when I check your hang out spot and see that you are not there. I have waited so long for you to come and the daily wait makes me feel like a village on the run, wasted time cannot be regained and the long wait has cause me so much pain; I don’t know if I will ever live the life that I was destined to live, other than the life that has caused me so much pain and misery.

Sometimes I feel like a clown sailing between the clouds, moving from cities to town, avenues and streets singing songs of yesterday while I watch the people go astray and the clock keeps ticking away.

I have orbit the globe more than a hundred times, searching for something that is on my mind. I think about it from time to time and I just cannot erase it from my mind. Shall I wait for you here or shall I wait at another place, I have waited here from sunrise to sun down and still you have not come around, I no number to call or the address for the city hall, I will let nature follow the course and when the time I will go through the door and hold destiny by its hand.

I thought we had an understanding of a mutual deal in the making and the binding contract that cannot be broken, why am I still here waiting; there must have been some misunderstanding, if you listen carefully you can hear the musical strings singing they are in perfect harmony.

I will force myself from underneath the clouds and go out and buy some new clothes and change the place where I stay for a new promotion is coming my way. I will wait for a few more days and if you don’t come I will go my own way and I hope that we will cross path someday.

She was sold for three trillion dollars.

Sketches 14

The young boy was pale,
He walked slowly in the alley
No. 41.His skeleton hand hold a rusted tin can.
He was in business, for him it was.

On his innocent face,
In a modern world, who really forgotten
Kids like him was also human too.His eyes
Pasted on a piece of bread on the dirty pavement.
On his side was tall buildings,on the other was a busy EDSA.

A dove whose feather blacken by the third world metropolis,
Peeped down from the lamp post,
Measuring the distance of the bread on the ground
Look at the child, inclining its head side ward,
Then, their eyes meet, resting on each other stare
Like eternity,
And it flew toward the blinding sun.

The boy saw a man approached,
Polished shoes landed on his lunch
The gold Rolex,tailored clothes,big ring,
A heavy necklace hung loosely on beefy neck.
Surprised on a sudden hand that raised on his way,
"Move out!" bellowed angrily, then scurried quickly on a green traffic
 light. "Fool..."the boy sighed.

Business is business,he thought,as he reached out the crushed bread
Uttered a little prayer, ate it religiously with tears on his eyes.
Every bite he remembered his little brother he left this morning
on their cartoon box house
At Smokey Mountain outside Manila, its smoke ascend forever
Till the end of time, because of the corrupt lordship in kings palace
His little brother burned at stake alive waiting for his pancit.
His father was an inmate at Bilibid prison selda katorse (14)
His mother was a girl in the street.

Then an old woman came out at the Binondo Church.
Walked briskly as the wind swept the dusk on summer days.
Stopped,a discolored dirt hand spread for an alms.
Irritated, she rummaged her purse, and gently place the one peso
on the boys hand, made sure to slow her movement, maybe the rest
Were looking at her, she raised her brow and smile
"Of course.", she said sweetly
Father hope will see this act she thought that
Might mention her name in homily,Mrs. Cerbo was kind to the poor.
He spit the coin and swipe it on his dirty torn shirt
And say..."God Blessed Maddame."

Then he ran at the little Sari-sari store
Brought a piece of bread, break it into halves
He hid his share on his pocket
Then tossed the half on the side walk
When the boy had gone, blue wing landed
Ate with pride and thinking, "stupid boy..stupid boy..".

The Fox and the Snake

''A good deed is rewarded with an evil one'',
Said the snake ready to bite the poor fox
That had just set the snake free
moving the boulder from his hole.
''This is not true'' she replied
With a fear in her eyes
''I am ready to show you why''.
So the poor, yet sly fox took the snake for a ride
To show him that good can dominate over evil.
They passed together mountains of snow
Along with seas of gold.
In the middle of their course
They met a white, beautiful horse
With eyes dry, sitting lonely on a field.
''What are you doing all alone''? The fox asked.
The horse turned lazily his white head and said:
''After ten years of devotion to my master,
After ten years of love, he left me here
Alone and hungry to die forgotten from all''.
''See? The snake smiled,'' evil is stronger than any good, I have to bite you''.
''No'', said the fox, ''I know the world and that is not true, come with me,
I'll show you''.
They passed green fields of storm, deserts of thirst
Until they came across a fat cow.
''Hello'' waved the fox. ''I want to ask you something.
Do you think that a good deed is rewarded with an evil one''?
''Of course'', said the cow. ''I always offer my milk to families, to children.
But now, that I am old, I can't give them anymore.
So, they are ready to kill me and eat my meat''.
''I hope that by now you know that good is nothing in front of evil''.
Said the snake and his tongue of poison slipped away from his mouth.
''Give me one last chance to prove you that you are wrong'',
The fox sadly replied.
They passed cities of red lights, roads of distance.
Suddenly, they see a hungry man with cloths torn
Running to steal a woman's purse. The man was thin and weak
As he could not keep balance he falls in front of the woman's legs.
The woman sees him and with compassion says:
''How many days are you foodless my poor man? Come, take some money
To eat and buy new clothes''.
He takes the money with his trembling hand, the woman sheds a tear and leaves.
''You see?'' said the fox, ''a good deed can change any evil intention''.
She didn't finish her words and the man stands up on his feet,
Runs towards the woman and grasps her purse with a violent move,
Dropping the terrified woman on the road.
The fox watches frustrated and disappointed. Turns to the snake and says:
''What a world! Just bite me''.

He had do fight all odds
A man of unbreakable idealism
Alone with his ideas

A mysterious death at high sea
The truth will never be known

Gegen alle Widerstände
Ein Mann mit ungebrochenem Idealismus
Alleine mit seinen Ideen

Mysteriöser Tod auf hoher Sea

En lucha contra todas probabilidades
Un hombre de idealismo irrompible
Solo con sus ideas

Una muerte misteriosa en alta mar
La verdad nunca será conocida

Note: Rudolf Christian Karl Diesel, 1858-1913, was a German engineer and the inventor of
the Diesel engine. He spent his youth until 1870 in Paris and surroundings. When being
extradited after the start of the German-French-War in 1870, Diesel and his family left for
London. He as a child travelled alone to Augsburg, Germany were he lived for five years
with his uncle and went to school there. He started studies of mechanical engineering in
1875 in Munich and applied for a patent of a „New and economical power engine“ at the
Emperial Patent-Office in Berlin. From 1908 on he developed the first functional model of
his engine with the financial assistance of the Krupp company. In January 1898 the first
factory for Diesel engines was built in Augsburg, Germany. A Diesel Engine Company was
inaugurated by autumn 1900 in London. The first motor vessels with a Diesel engine were
built in 1903. Diesel was at a state of bad health due to numerous patent-lawsuits. He was
not a good businessman and lost his complete fortune. On September 29th Diesel boarded the
mail-vessel Dresden to cross the Channel for Harwich to participate in a meeting of the
„Consolidated Diesel Manufacturing Ltd.“ in London. He seemed to be in a good manner when
he was last seen on board of the ship. On October 10th 1913 the crew of a Dutch
government pilot ship saw a body drifting in the water at heavy sea. As the body was
highly decomposed, the crew only got hold of some personal belongings (a pastille box,
purse, pocket knife and a spectacle case) which were later identified as Diesel's
belongings by his son Eugen. The real cause of his death was never clarified and his
dependants never believed in suicide, but in murder to steal Diesel's ideas. So his death
is still remains a mystery.

She didn't remember who I was
But it didn't really matter
Her eyes lit up like sunshine
Each time I entered the room
as if we were long lost friends

She'd say, "Oh! Please, sit a spell",... and I would grab a chair...
I would hand her the bag, and she would peek inside.
She wore her smile like a happy child.
Cookies !...."Oh my! My favorite kind!"

One would think it were a pot of gold.

As we chatted, she told me her about her birthday.
"December 19th!", she would remind me..
Forgetting that just the day before
we had celebrated, and even more.

She said...."Oh,..let's have a party!"
Everyone knew that this lady loved a party.
And I replied, "Of course!"

"I must be going!", she suddenly said
Said again, with a worried brow...just as she fretted the day before..
"The girls will be home from school!"
She looked around for her purse.
"I have three girls, you know,.....they will be coming home from school."
She repeated once more...."I have three daughters, you know."

I told her the girls will be fine...and that I'd like to visit a little longer.
That seemed to calm her. "Have you seen my ring?"..
She held her blue veined, withered hand high in the air for me to see.
A flash of glitter graced her finger, sparkling just like the stars in the sky.
"My husband gave it to me. It was a Valentine surprise!" she said.
"He was a rascal, you know!"

"Oh,...it's beautiful, Irene"...I responded.
"Did you know", she smiled again...."this was a Valentine surprise!"...?
"My husband gave it to me"

Finally, it was time for me to leave. I got up to say goodbye.
"Would you mind giving me a ride?" she said.
...."The girls will be coming home from school!"
I told her I would check on her girls...not to worry.
And then I told her I would be back again tomorrow..

"I have a birthday coming", she said....December l9th!! Did you know?"
Once more...I said..."Yes...we will have a party"....
"Did you see my ring?"..."My husband gave it to me on Valentines, it was a surprise!"

And I said..."It's lovely Irene....as lovely as the stars in the sky"
As lovely as Irene....
Goodnight Irene goodnight....the stars will shine brighter tonight,...
Stars always shine brighter in December........

Goodnight Irene, goodnight....

Postulating Pain

She passed many things, daily
As records played in the background
Don't go near, stay away, don't touch
Til she drove herself to the only place SHE could be

.................................FOUND

Monotony has a rhythm of its own
Familiar carries a purse of peace on its shoulder
Til the very thing one can never have or be
Is at the very place, forbidden, but now, wiser and older

She looked, maybe that was wrong too
But a glance caught her inner eye of wonder
Difference sat itself, right there in the tree, for everyone to see
The earth beneath her footing roared with thunder

She came to herself with a fevered haste
Rushing to leave the sacred place
.......lest sHE behold HIS fierce face

She avoided, went around, cut paths in the ground
Yet there difference still sat, living, breathing, NOT DEAD
............peace.......the only .........sound

Time stood still at the site of difference
The record played "Don't go near!" Yet difference
.............is HERE

Pain seared in her mind as she began to reason
Truth wasn't for the one who came from a rib
Men carry vision of the GOD, allusive, unknown
Maybe sHE could be greater if her mind uncovered
........a...........what???

No! Away, go away, little girl

Awwww, the pain, it hurts,

............ugh! I don't care if I DIE

...................nothing is as bad as THIS
CONSTANT BEATING OF A DRUM, GET ON WITH IT LITTLE GIRL, GO DO WHAT IS ALREADY .........................................................DONE.....................................

The bullet shot through the window, shattering glass
Leaving a hole for her to approach and finally ask
.........a question

She did it, walked into the presence of difference
And Difference wasted no time to point to the pain
He ran over the messages secretly playing
In the back, pushing her to the point to act "insane"

She repeated the message as though it were TRUTH
But Difference showed the flaw in reason and touch
Sitting in the forbidden tree no one could come near
Made HIM god, and obedience, a broken crutch
............for a HUNGRY god

Written by Trudy Schrader on 05/20/2020

Note: Pain is difference. It is the thing that makes us grow and come to know what is of LOVE and what isn't. We must push into our pain to understand, rather than yield to the idea it will last forever.
