Adventures At Crown Hill

It was a nice warm day, with warm breezes

whipping through our patio, as we sat there

taking all of this in.

Brandy my dear sweet dog looked so bored

lying there so still.

This dog loves going for a ride in the car more

than anything. So thought I would take her

over to Crown Hill Park, which was around

7 or 8 miles west of where we live.

It has a lake where you can see

the Rocky Mountains as clear as day.

This side walk goes around the lake

2 miles or so, a lovely walk on a day

such as this. Wild life can be found

at times, you never know what you

may see, filmed a coyote there one time.

You see Brandy old girl and I don't get to

do things very often as I would like to.

So today was to be an adventure for her

more than for me. She kept trying to go down

to the lake to see what was there, at times

she would just stare off into the wild blue,

thinking she saw something, but nothing was

there that I saw anyway, Many new scents

she took in today, could really tell she was having

a fun time and enjoying herself.

On the way around this lake we

met two different dogs, one dog

was with her master, only the dog

had his leash in his mouth and did

not react to Brandy and just kept walking,

very good trained dog.

The other other dog was a big dog,

as it got nearer I stopped and

held on to Brandy, the lady with her

dog stopped, her dog laid down and

would not move, it growled at

Brandy and I thought on no, dog fight,

she held her dog back, I told her

to please move on, her dog would not

move, finally it did and I felt relieved.

Later on we saw a strange looking bird

out in the middle of the lake, just sitting

on a log, it looked like a Great Blue Heron,

Brandy didn't know what to think of it,

she just stared at it for a while, then we moved on.

She does not see many strange looking birds.

Red-Winged Black Birds took time to sing Brandy

and me a few tunes, I think she

enjoyed that very much. As we headed back

toward the car, I was thinking the last time we

were here, my dog Murphy had joined us, but

today is a memory I will cherish in my heart for

a long time, an adventure just for my pal

Brandy and me.

The Cat House

I know a place where cats enjoy long life,
where human intervention is tolerated,
but,
where only cats are allowed

It is where they rule, decide their fate,
to go hunting or sleep late,
prowl their border, look for a mate,
food abundant, early or late,
no need for a snack with an always full plate

Non-skid litter lines their bathroom floor,
ideal for completing their daily chore,
no need for flushing, gets covered instead,
when it reaches its peak, mysteriously disappears,
automatically replenished,
a new floor every other day or more

When night time falls they are free to prowl,
crouching tigers one and all,
waiting to pounce at the slightest noise,
or attack a shadow suddenly appearing on a wall,
their prey, rarely actually exists,
makes no difference,
prowling is not something they would ever miss,
immediately after a good prowl,
onto their bed, a good stretch,
sleep away until daylight

Come first light their tummy signals its time to eat,
they check out their food bowl,
if stale,
it is time for humans to wake

Hunger sated, find a sunbeam to bask and wait,
awaiting a signal, to do whatever their mind dictates

Ah, such a place is the mind of a cat,
from where they rule and dictate,
how we humans who love them,
make their life great

Gecko My Friend!

How could I forget?
Who am I not to remember?
As the little boy marched on with a gecko as pet,
Determined to let it go, by mid-September,

He took it away from the ornamental cage,
Covered it with a colorful piece of Chinese satin.
He started climbing up the mountain, covered with sage.
Gecko, to him, has always been a pet so special.

As day time vanished and dusk settled,
Little boy marched on, the journey half conquered,
Never has he felt that his time was wasted,
Gecko was worth all these hours being accumulated.

Once he had reached the enchanted place,
Right there amongst the tulips and lilies,
Under the watchful eyes of space,
With the moon and stars as accessories.

“There you go gecko”! “Here you won’t feel in abandon!”
Little boy glanced at his friend with tears in his eyes.
“I won’t forget you as long as my name is Brandon!”
He hugged his gecko tightly, and whispered farewell under the skies.

…… But the night was falling and Brandon had to leave…

I remember when YOU were little the fun we had at play
At Dinner time YOU would quietly sit as I began to PRAY

I remember walking through the woods with YOU by my side
When it was time to head on home YOUR nose would be my guide

I remember all our Summers, Winter, Spring, and Autumn's FALL
Swimming in the Mountain Lakes, romping in the snow, watching Flowers grow
The changing colors of the leaves all these things I recall

For eleven years YOU were my companion my very, very best FRIEND
I remember how YOU wagged YOUR tail, licked my face LOVED me until the end
