The Devil's Pathway
A road of sweet temptation
And depraved debaucheries
A road of sinful excess and,
No foreseeable boundaries
Explicit acceptance is the rule
I've been warned
Never to tread upon the
Devil's Pathway
A pathway of
Self-destruction... the
intensity of sublimity
Pleasure. Just be
A puppet on God's
Holy puppet strings
But yet
I've been born a sinner
According to
Strict religious teachings
Rooting for heaven
Still my tainted black soul
Just wants to feel the
Heightened sensations
Of the Devil's Pathway.
So, out of curiosity I tread
Unto the Devil's Pathway
Tuning into salacious tales
Outlandish laughter and
Detecting sheer naughtiness
in high-pitched giggles
Causing my knees to
Weaken with
Blissful excitement.
If I should stumble and fall...
Fall knee down on the
Devil's Pathway
Crawling through the
Quagmire of drains and
Ditches
Wallowing
In lust, desire and greed...
Ergo my wretched soul
Feeling the blasted heat
Of a gamut of red hot emotions
Will truly come to know polarity.
For
Eventually
Fire consumes everything
On the Devil's Pathway.
The answers in the dice,
They hold us in a vice.
We run a course,
We're blinded to the cause.
Dawn brings our desires,
Some enmeshed in briers.
Life with its troubles,
We're in a world of doubles.
Lessons are learnt in our sojourn,
Irrespective of the region.
The best blessing is to be in one piece,
Amidst storms recalcitrant to cease.
Life is a voluminous book,
No one has had an entire look.
We listen to the sage,
They don't see all the doors out of the cage.
Exploring the disconnect,
We walk in circumspect.
We assiduously labour,
Given a view of the harbour.
Life is a mystery,
Beyond the annals of history.

When opaque nights are starless, and gloomy days hazy,
to steer the astray life through the mist of maze isn’t easy.
When garden flowers turn pale, and pasture grass brown,
secret tears fill the infinite sea within for hopes to drown.
When the assigned road to travel is long, and the time finite,
the agitated mind loses focused vision of wisdom for insight.
The pathway turns into a river, curving the course of its own,
I sail sanguine to the ordained destination, not yet known.
I don’t measure the space, and the time, take the route as set,
across the stardust-draped nights, and the sunburst days, I get.
I don’t ask the purpose of the journey, for I won’t ever know,
travel along the valley of flowers and on the verdant meadow.
I don’t sink hope in deep abyss of despair, but travel content
on the segment of the new road I pave in my time present,
kindling in my mind a beacon of introspection to light the inside,
in the reflection I see the corridor to the abode of bliss to reside.

I can't take you with me,
When I leave this world to go home.
When I'm laid to rest my life goes to pass,
Underneath those blades of grass.
A marble stone,
Marking a place, the life of me.
Don't stop too long,
Grieving for me,
Life needs to be moving along.
I'm here, to help, that life moves on,
Don't get weak,
Without being, staying so strong.
Move along with, your dreams in you,
Find a place in this world, just being you.
But, on your wedding day,
Look within,
You'll find me there for you.
I'll have a smile or two,
Watching over you,
A hope, a tear of joy just for you.
And, when your children are born,
Take a moment for me,
All I ask is, please, don't forget about me.
I'll always be there, with a little pride in my soul,
Some dignity,
I'll be proud of you more.
So, think of me for a while,
Along your life's pathway,
I'll think of you when I go home.
“Poetry is a life-cherishing force. For poems are not words, after all, but fires for the cold, ropes let down to the lost, something as necessary as bread in the pockets of the hungry.”
- Mary Oliver
Poetry is an inner reassuring voice,
It is the ladder that leads out of murky waters,
It is the portrait that depicts the strivings of the soul,
It is the eye to the wonders and intricacies of nature,
It is a pathway through a cluttered and clustered path.
Poetry is a light that guides through a dark alley,
It is a pearl of inestimable worth,
It is the panacea for turbulent waters,
It is the song of our times,
It is the message in the rhythm and melody.
Poetry is the wind that blows on a hot and dry day,
It is the sun that graces a gloomy sky,
It is a chamber of lost treasures,
Poetry is a door that leads to a ceaseless fountain.
Poetry is a world that I'm glad I found.

I am but an ancient tree
Upstanding in my singularity
Ordained by the forest of my forefathers
I am full spread reaching for the sun
The light of 4.6 billion years never done
The source of all things living
Blanketed in the first snow of countless seasons
Branches laden with the weight of age and gravity
Ancestral roots of infinite years
Entwined with the pathway of my elders
I reach deep into the richness of my mother earth
Binding me to the womb of all that's known
A fertile union of exquisite definition
Conceiving the severity of truth
To harvest the heart of compassion
A simple white dream
A prophet's decree
I am captive to move and sway
With the purity of this moment
Drifting within the winds of wisdom
And timeless certainty
And in this time and space
I become one with that destiny
To be or not in the realm of its tranquility
To breathe with the rhythm and harmony
The beautiful cadence I dance to
The tick-tock clock of eternity
Anxiety is a depressive thing
it tears to shred our very heart
but to hear just one living word
brings one gladness not just a part
Be careful when choosing your friends
for you are righteous so do right
reject counsel from the wicked
for it'll lead you astray into the night
Never be labelled as being lazy
it leaves a bad reputation by far
make sure to be diligent always
precious this is above any star
Make sure to live in righteousness
there you experience eternal life
walk in that pathway continually
God's looks on, he's sharp as a knife
God's instructions are for your best
His ways forever will endure
He sees the end from the start
perfectly wise is our God as He's pure
('Anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down,
but a good word makes him glad.
One who is righteous is a guide to his neighbor,
but the way of the wicked leads them astray.
Whoever is slothful will not roast his game,
but the diligent man will get precious wealth.
In the path of righteousness is life,
and in its pathway, there is no death.')
Proverbs 12: 25-28 ESV
I enter gates that are rusty and old, worn with age,
This eternal resting place fills my soul with sadness;
The time of year does not help, barren trees hanging low,
Dried up flowers lay forlorn on rows of graves.
I followed a pathway taking me deep into the maze of sorrow,
Many stones difficult to read, erosion and time destroyed;
Some are simple crosses and others pristine granite markers,
I cross over a bridge above a rippling stream.
Dark valleys lay before me and toppled statues rest in peace,
This scene of sadness holds a place in my soul forever;
For among the burial plots, vaults, lays a beloved sad memories,
There is so much love in this forever in this place.
This cemetery is serene and tranquil,
And I still weep . . . .

“A Reckoning of Illumination”
Autumn winds fall delicately upon my weary soul
Light from a heavenly place surrounds my interpretation of the scripture
Elemental hues of grace cascade down from the enlightened sky
A mystical proposition of truth sets the somber filaments of inquisition ablaze
As the Herculean sun lays bereft in the unforgiving atmosphere of the eloquent horizon
There we walk with reverence of all knowledge and wisdom toward the inherent peace of the celebrating land
Ensconced within an intimate haze of glory and intrigue
The chorus of an angelic choir vibrates through clouds
Reflective insight about the complexities of the entirety of man
Resounds in all it’s simplistic convolution, governed by the infallible laws of the natural world
A prayer from an innocent heart rings out through the land
The whisper of a Holy current moves, leaving glacial imprints upon the water
The gentle caress of emotional morning sunlight touches the surface of my skin
And I am bound by the integrity of this earth to continue to breathe
As the emblems and symbols of revolution evolve with the marking of a new dawn
Respite from the suffering of solitude descends upon the crescent moon
While the epitome of liberty and elation exalts across the sentimental elements of fire
Come toward me, together we shall depart unto this torrid pathway of uncertainty and lament
And brace ourselves for the beauty and bountiful exclamations of indisputable divine inspiration
As we lay there upon the ancient ground, listening to time itself combine with entropy
To create a never before seen moment of purity that transcends youth and hope and lies
So that we may return to our deliverance,
Where the weary souls must rest and wait for the essence of existence to reveal itself
Through the intrinsic absence of thought pouring through the atmosphere of our minds

The Ornament
A cold December morning,
sparkling air so clean
We hold a tiny ornament
a snowflake crystalline
Suspended by a wire,
a’ glisten in the light
Searching for the perfect tree
to hold it ever tight
An image so created
for all the world to see
In winter formed illusion
of snowfall majesty
Along a trodden pathway
a wooden footbridge calls
Initials carved the railing
neath whispered leaves a’ fall
An evergreen does shimmer
‘pon branches flows the breeze
Magnificent it beckons
among the many trees
So chosen for its beauty
along the water’s shore
To place this silver snowflake
to last for evermore
A symbol of the season
and love to share this scene
Affection fills this gesture
now swept within a dream
For in this forest setting,
a little peace to find
Does sit within this snowflake
to tell the world you’re mine
As spring shall bring the roses
and summer, days so warm
Fall, the vibrant colors
come winter we are born
And every year that follows,
if you accept my hand
An ornament the world will see
on each tree in the land
