Journey on Jericho Road
Shattered grace in jagged nights on the road to Jericho;
Ev’ry step and ev’ry breath are filled with shame
I know I am to blame;
I build a wall to hide my face so you can’t see
All the pain I’ve caused – all the misery
The blazing sun rushes in on waves - this wilderness knows my name
Shadows trip my ev’ry step – detours crosscut -
If only and yeah but….
I try to sneak behind my shame so you can’t see
The walls I build – no possibilities
On Jericho Road
Then your trumpet sounds
And all my walls fall down, Lord;
On Jericho Road
Where saints and sinners seek
And find their Savior.
My coat is gone. My soul grows thin. I shiver in the sunburned wind.
Dust blinds my eyes but I still reach to see
Milestones of hope guiding me
To shelters of your promise for the journey –
Resting place – oasis where you find me
My wind burned heart in shade can rest – grace restored in tenderness
No barriers and no blockades to your loving arms –
Fear displaced and disarmed;
Rising from the wells of souls - I finally see
Hope stands up, shouts “Gloria!” a guarantee
On Jericho Road
Then your trumpet sounds
And all my walls fall down, Lord;
On Jericho Road
Where saints and sinners seek
And find their Savior.
Song form AAB – AAB
Lyrics adapted from the song Jericho Road

Thou art God's Gift: thou wert born by HIS Grace,
He hath been with thee while growing in life,
Though thou walked thro' thorns and spikes, He hath been with thee.
Thou wert a tiny-tot when entered a play school,
Thou uttered alphabet and numbers, and were taught rhymes,
Thou hadst slept in thy tiny snug couch,
Thy eyelids winked that pronounced infantile babblings.
Thou entered class One and learnt child-like language,
God in Christ JESUS showed a ladder unto thee to soar high,
Each step thou climbed up hath been fruitful,
Thou learnt God’s Grace while soaring high.
Having reached the milestone of school learning, thou prayed unto HIM with Thanksgiving.
Thou stepped onto the milestone of college learning for Biotechnology,
Thy travel for four years taught thee what life is,
Thy efforts begot fruit to soar high above,
And He hath lifted thee high above the pedestal of life,
And yet thou hast to grow in His Plan and glorify Him.
Now thou art crowned with B.Tech.graduate degree,
And it's His design in thy life on earth and cross more milestones.
Thou will step up the ladder with His Guidance only to glorify Him.
And it's every good soul's prayer unto HIM.
Here are a handful of hysteric men
That seem to run random in rationed time,
To pour sweat whatso be the reigning clime,
Chasing the ball to goal as oft as can,
Or in defense, for long tenure of ball,
Wasting time or feigning hurt in a mime,
Grit and guts, gumption getting mixed with grime,
All with a view to holding world in thrall.
There too are those sunk deep in cushioned chairs—
Idle but crazy watchers, lazy bones,
Save when they yell, lifeless roadside milestones,
Couch potatoes all flaunting expert airs,
All expert critics stuck within a wall,
Who rather would cheer more than chase the ball.

Though you conceived me against your scheduled time
my tiny parts felt so secure inside your love vessel
I then invoked for your painstaking care
grateful that you chose to keep me---
---until my hospital birth exposure.
Though you left me to be cared by your grand mom
my babyhood was settled midst struggling milestones
I then invoked for your constant visits
yet you still decided to act out what seemed best---
--- that was not to see me anymore.
Though you let me grope amidst identity crisis
my genes could not hide your physical influence
I then invoked for your possible appearance
despite your subtle approval for my orphanage placement---
--- making me bereft of family-tree details.
Though you remain a mystery I can’t fathom
my personhood praises God for His love I’m experiencing
I then invoke that He would grant you peace
along forgiveness Christ assures to those who trust in Him ---
--- such is my faith while admitting this… I long to meet you.
I now invoke YOU, Sovereign Almighty for possible mother-son reunion:
please regard my supplication* with Your favour…
I invoke you, Mommy, in the name of the Lord:
remember me, your son, yearning for your hugs ---
--- ready to embrace you dearly.
*Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

Every stride I made yesterday gave its ripe fruit,
I vowed to do better and I still thrive;
whoever seeks glory must have a true pursuit!
No milestones can be snatched by time that never returns,
too much faith and effort I put into them;
let none flow in the wildest river that overflows and erodes!
When your search ends, your eagerness for more dies,
let hunger be that force greater than yourself;
life doesn't confine you to any boundary, climb walls!
The weaker ones give up too soon, the stronger always prevail;
their mark of excellence stands like a fortress
never conquered, but some like to burn it with the fire of Hell.
I am the victorious heart which thwarted possible defeats,
invigorated by courage and desire to win;
I intend to continue this journey into tomorrow's dreams!

I’m walking through the rough roads,
Losing traction in my current situation.
There is no scheme or death trap,
It’s a springboard to my launchpad.
A stirring is taking place during this hour,
Disruption and shift are in motion.
It’s getting messy and uncomfortable,
I sense climate change is in effect.
Discouragement comes and goes,
But life won’t be full of woes.
Lately I’ve been stressing out,
I just hope it doesn’t take me out.
I’ve survived tough roads in the past,
So I know I’m built for this, and to last.
Another chance to grow and learn,
That’s what milestones make a major turn.
Violet, our great-granddaughter, experienced a special moment the other day
(I’m sure she won’t mind if I speak on her behalf)
What made this day so special…It was the moment of her first laugh.
Although Deborah and I were not there to hear in person…the moment of her laughter….
through the magic of technology…we were heard her laugh…a little while after.
We’ve been blessed to witness many milestones with our children and grandchildren…
as together we’ve enjoyed life’s ride
and witnessing Violet’s first laugh, just like all the others, filled our hearts with pride.
And so it all begins again Violet…on another roller coaster ride we go…
ready to watch your milestones…your discoveries…your achievements
as every day you grow.
We might not be in the front seat of the roller coaster with you…
on any particular day…
but there’s no need to worry…we won’t be far away.
Well be right behind you with smiles on our faces and our arms unfurled
like we were the day you added your laughter to the world.
Applauding sun’s halo~ inspiring, rewarding,
Mindfully I rise with the ebullient awakening
Letting soul enliven while robins are singing
And horizon crimson glimmers in dawning.
I hold time still for the blossoms of spring,
Rivers that burble sprucing green prairies
And blue tides bouncing summer’s revelry
And resplendent dazzle of autumnal leaves.
Every memento of love I treasure in delight,
In embrace of family, I cheer life sublime
Rejoicing when I sense success in their eyes
Celebrating milestones of things done right.
Realizing I own a mere fraction of eternity
Elated I feel holding just a speck of infinity
Succeeding more often than failing or quitting
Coping resolutely with poor hand of destiny.
I shun nightmares, choosing dreams of night
Lifting troubled mind when grief occupies,
When darkness rules, I invoke moonlit skies
And paint on visage of hope blissful smiles.
I yearn not for the ships that already sailed,
Regret not having tried the conquests I failed,
But I chase prospects of aspirations deferred
Yet, remain focused on things that matter.

All by HIS Grace and Mercy till today on the 38th door,
The twain souls set in with their third soul,
And their journey to progress in HIS Will is blessed.
Their first step looked simple but with intricacies –
Of life in and out, yet it is HIS Purpose –
A mystery to human knowledge!
The steps they had continued, brought thorns,
Plodded on vicissitudes of life alone and alone,
Yet HIS Arms carried them for HIS Purpose.
Reality unto them seemed bleak and dark,
Dark clouds seemed to hinder their way unto light,
Yet HIS Grace and Mercy showed them Light.
On their 17th step a Heavenly Call entered into them,
Her travail through hours turned a prayer unto HIM,
It was the first cry of God’s Gift unto them,
A Good Samaritan stood beside the mother and the child.
The father in anticipation on wheels on the rails travelled,
The three were there with the Third One beside.
It’s their 38th milestone that the three stand with HIM,
All through their 37 milestones they walked with HIM,
And the journey of the trio been dramatic and blessed,
The world is a challenge unto them, yet Heaven is with them.
They’ve learnt: ‘Fear of the Lord is the Beginning of Wisdom.’
Their journey will be till HE decides seeking HIS Kingdom.
I was born with a foreign hunger, inherited from the shadows of those who were,
they placed a dream in my hand like a shining blade and told me to carve my future,
but the metal rusted in my deep sleep, leaving me to waver on paths of mist,
now I chase smoke through iron halls, where ambition drips
from the jaws of broken clocks, time defies me with a grin of merciless gears—
I run, and it devours every step, every moment stolen from me,
I am weary of digging graves and calling them milestones,
when each dug grave is just another reminder of what I have not been,
in a world of rusted dreams where choices are carved in cold stone,
and I, a traveler through stopped clocks, seek light among the ruins,
but only shadows answer me, whispering the burden of unfulfilled desires.
