Premium Member End of Summer

We were home
On an innocent summer afternoon
And for a day we pushed our problems aside
The almanac promised a clear day, highs in the eighties
Instead it was muggy and hot in the low nineties
After lunch the three of us
Took a slow walk under the summer sun
Coming home we went our separate ways
My son to the living room
Wife upstairs and
I to the den
Where I fell into a deep sleep
My body sinking into the sofa.

A faint breeze circulated through the house
Suddenly a yellow light woke me up
The skies suddenly darkened
Then thunder
Followed by heavy rain
It was a summer storm
Sudden it its ferocity
And intensity.

Groggy
I woke up
Barefoot
Breathless
Joining my wife and son
Running out to bring in the lawn cushions
In the rain we
Laughed
Made loud noises
Threw cushions around
Shrieked
To our hearts content
Glad to be together again
Because of a summer storm.

Premium Member What He Receives

A man walks beneath the morning sky..
Where a broken pipe lets water sigh.
He sees a pot where roots are dry.
And shifts it close, lets thirst pass by.

He turns and spots, by curb’s incline..
A woman straining, drawn in line.
He lifts her cart.. no words, no sign..
Just quiet strength, a small design.

At noon he eats, the sun runs high..
A stray dog waits with pleading eye.
He shares his bread, a humble pie..
Two hearts content, no need to try.

He leaves, and there.. by dusty street..
A mother and child with worn bare feet.
A sign of schooling, dreams discreet..
He gives his all, though ends won’t meet.

At dusk, he hangs with gentle hand..
A bunch of gold by a neighbor’s stand.
He knocks, then slips away unplanned..
While gratitude blooms through the land.

No riches reward from what he’s done..
No cameras praise, no spotlight shone.
Yet in his chest.. a brighter sun..
A warmth the world can’t take or shun.

He sees the joy, the softened eyes..
He feels the peace that never dies.
A gift unseen, beyond the skies..
A truth that fortune can’t disguise.

So ask yourself, when days are crossed..
When counting gains and tallying cost.
Is what you seek in gold embossed..
Or found in love that’s never lost?

The Odyssey Redux - Part Iii - From Circe's Isle To Scylla and Charybdis

And so they sailed, on and on, uncharted were where they went, till they came to Hade's land
Dark and grey and dismal was the land where wraiths and shadows wandered on the sand
There they held congregation with the dead whose time on Charon's ferry was yet to clear.
Odysseus did meet his mother Anticleas as did Achilles, Agamemnon, and Teresias the Seer.

Teresias, blind from birth, had vision of the Gods and good counsel he did give
Of more travails, he did prophesise, of arcane things he did tell, of ways to overcome and live.
So once again, the Grecian ship set sail with a sense of dire forebodings, a journey lasting long
And hence they came where dwelt fair maids, the Syrenia, of sweet and dreaded song.

The Sirens were a beauteous lot, their songs lured ships and men to the rocks, and shipwreck
Oysseus, forewarned, stuffed beeswax in the ears of crew, and bound was he to a mast on deck
So the Sirens' song, which doomed all men, was heard by our hero to his hearts content
And the ship sailed past averting sure doom, as deaf crew to their sailing task were bent.

Now, in those days of Mythical Beasts were two most dreaded beasts of the seas
Scylla of the hexa-head with ravenous mouths, and the maelstrom called Charybdis.
Caught were the crew between the choice of the two, and Odysseus made the choice
Scylla it was that Odysseus chose. With heavy heart he sailed past it, gave six men as sacrifice.

A Pakistani Poetess Message

A Pakistani Poetess Message :
Read my poems,
though read them right.
You can't just read them like
you are reading a book,
And think "this is not that good".
What is this?
These are words from my heart,
Don't underestimate.
The power contained in each word,
Sings a tune,
Read it like that,
Like a song,
that's the way it deserves to be read.
You then might feel what I feel
and appreciate each word
And let them touch your heart,
and truly understand what's being said.
Each word a journey of my hearts content,
Or its losses,
Some possibly written with tears dripping,
Some possibly written with happiness phase.
On the keyboard,
true emotions,
Deserve respect.
Blessed are they who see beautiful things
In humble places where other people see nothing.

In the Arms of An Angel

There is no other place to compare
With nostalgia and profusion it bares
A place where I dissolve my thoughts
And a convention of love never bought
When I am with him I forget about time
But still recording every little moment - I’ll be fine
This is the place I call home
In his presence is where I roam
(in the arms of an angel)

There might be days of sadness
There might be weeks of madness
Nothing for my hearts content
But then the thought of him - gives me spirit to defend
Then I see it all and everything disappears
In his presence I have no fears
(in the arms of an angel)

My love for him always stands
Not a list of any demands
I want to plant that what is only good
In his presence as it should
(in the the arms of an angel)

Now that I have turned over every stone
And licked dry every bone
I treasure the magical time we shared, that every days
I promise will never be lost in any ways
My cup overflows – I confess
In his presence was absolutely the best
(in the arms of an angel)

Syria's Christians and Haiti

Syria’s Christians and Haiti

The first Christian church was built in Syrian, as I write this the horror is killing them the new death cult regime in Syria, a cult we give money to, and not mentioned by Western media as Israel continues to bomb Gaza to their hearts content This is only possible when the bombs are free of charge courtesy of the USA
On the home front, we read about erectile dysfunction, no they are telling me who thought
my own problems were caused by the old age
Haiti, the sad state is in the news again, last time
I was there, Papa Doc, was in power he employed
Thugs, sunglasses, and sports shirts to keep order
but they harassed shopkeepers to hand over money, when Papa died his son took over, he was an idiot and any resembles of order fell apart
Port-au-Prince was a beautiful city, but now it is a vast criminalized slum, Haiti has always been poor and met resistance from other countries who were against a black sovereign state. It never got the help needed from white societies who said slaves could not a country make

Premium Member I Survived the Fourth of July

Thankfully, another Fourth of July has come and went,

Providing a day for folks to celebrate to their hearts content!

Its good that a day is set aside to honor the birth of our nation,

To enjoy parades, hot dogs, hamburgers and a tad of libation.

All of this is well and good yet I have a genuine complaint!

Why can't obnoxious neighbors use a modicum of restraint,

When setting off their fireworks all up and down the street?

It sounds as if world war three has begun as each of them compete!

Adding to the din is the howling of dozens of neighborhood curs.

Even my cat gets upset and starts to yowl when this occurs!

Fireworks vendors swarmed into town by the legion;

Mercifully, they've folded their tents and left the region!

Now, maybe I can get some much needed sleep 'til next July,

When all hell breaks loose again and on that you can rely!

Cucumber and Gin Popsicles

She was a bookworm of the most finicky kind
reading every day with a book always in reach
at the thrifty store the books were all consigned
she rebuffed discriminately with slow impeach
and rebuked all books that weren't a food find

She ravaged books about cakes & pate de foie gras
buttered tarts, angel hair, and little canape things
books about how to bake fish and how to fry bass
like a true galloping gourmet she would bring
the recipes home, then make them sing...

When winter came she'd sit like a chow hound
and copy recipes into her little red book
feeling lucky for the precious books she found
Pillaging the remnants with eyes sharp as a rook
she made the kitchen her haven, and fair ground

Her recipe for lava chocolate soufflé had charm
and her English toffee lollies were never fickle
she bought her eggs fresh from the dairy farm
and when she made cucumber and gin popsicles,
you could lick to hearts content they do no harm .
