God, give me grace to accept with serenity
the things that cannot be changed,
courage to change the things
which should be changed,
and the wisdom to distinguish
the one from the other."
~ one version of the serenity prayer, attributed to Protestant theologian, Reinhold Niebuhr
"Do everything with a mind that lets go. If you let go a little you will have a little peace; if you let go a lot you will have a lot of peace; if you let go completely you will have complete peace."
~ Thai meditation master, Ajan Chah
"Life is like the seasons. After winter comes the spring." ~ from Cycles, written by Gayle Caldwell, sung by Frank Sinatra
Aspirations, joy, wishes, dreams and hope,
jobs, possessions, lovers, spouses, and friends -
they're gone, and I'd like to hang from a rope,
resigned that that's the way the story ends,
but, I'm not sure that I'm meant to retain
the things some say are granted from above.
Though I feel the disappointment and the pain
when, one by one, I lose the things I love,
Today, punishment and reward combine,
the result of the rivers I have crossed,
and I can't escape nature's grand design,
along with age, so many things are lost.
In the throes of heartbreak, pain, or despair,
I recall the serenity prayer.
Claudelle, we must go away and start a new life.
This fruitless sharecropping has just cost me my wife.
Believe me, in every way, I loved your mother.
Frustrated and annoyed, she left me for another.
I know you were heartbroken about what happened to Linn.
You will love someone else after we begin again.
A bunch of other men want to hold you in their arms.
They fall peril to all of your feminine charms.
Your mother wanted you to marry a man fat and old.
To her, he seemed to be worth his weight in gold.
You knew deep inside he was not right for you.
Never did you have feelings for him that were true.
What sadness and grief love sometimes brings.
Your flirting and coquetry have made a mess of things.
Too many men are now competing for you.
We will leave these surroundings and start anew.
Based on the novel "Claudelle Inglish" by the late Erskine Caldwell and the 1961 film with the same title.
She prays; gods halo again brightly creeping from underneath the shadowed covers of comfort. Slowly awakening her blissful HEArT re*collabrated and re*juvinated to start the day quietly tip-toed inside her peaceful home. A plantation thats shown to be told, firmly planted is all she'll ever know, thank you god my almighty straight to the LION'S den's mouth, as her heart is poured out in extreme greatness. "There isn't much that I have learned through all my foolish years except that life keeps runnin' in cycles..." ~ from Cycles, written by Gayle Caldwell, sung by Frank Sinatra
In the Spring, colorful flowers blossom.
So many hopeful seasons, I recall.
I have lived a life I'd say was awesome,
but all blooms lose color and die in Fall.
Next year, lovely new blossoms will appear.
They'll have their chance to sway in Summer breeze
when their time to spring from the earth is here,
never thinking of the next Winter's freeze.
That's the eternal cycle of living,
If my merry-go-round is almost up,
then I'm filled with the humblest thanksgiving
for whatever love once filled up my cup.
Then, I'll feed the flowers, like men before,
while this ol' world goes on - forevermore.
Ty Ty Walden, what are we to do with you?
Your farm has steadily decreased in value.
People think you are a fool and not a bit funny.
You are not growing crops that would make you money.
Ty Ty, what about this foolish endeavor?
It is that buried gold you are digging to discover.
Your grandfather’s fortune is what you are hoping to see.
There are more unsightly holes all over your property.
Gold fever it seems has enveloped you still.
You even imprisoned an albino against his will.
The town is too dependent on the operation of the mill.
The closing has the population up in arms.
Son-in-law Will is enticed by Griselda’s charms.
Your troubles are compounding into a plethora.
How can you survive in those backwoods of Georgia?
Based on the novel "God's Little Acre" by the late Erskine Caldwell
