Premium Member The Nutcracker

Bought advance tickets for The Nutcracker
About two and a half months ago
How was I to know on November 29th
We'd get dumped on with a big bunch of snow

The weather gods have conspired against me
Coz before and after that day
Temperatures been so incredibly warm
Much like the merry month of May

Must have upset those guys back when
If so I do hereby apologize
Sure felt their wrath, spent three long hours
With fire shooting out of my eyes

Next time won't buy tickets ahead of time
I'll buy them on the day of the event
And take my chances that it's not a sellout
So my time is much better spent

Is my frustration showing as I write this poem?
So ticked off, what more can I say
Don't want ever to spend that much time again
Stopped dead on a freaking highway

Woke up grinning like a silly old fool
Is there something I can take for that
Maybe a new pill that's just hit the market
A cure-all to save humanity and our cat

Household pets are worth saving too
In fact they are first to be given a pass
An average life span will eventually be 150
What will I do sitting on my ass

Well let's see I could write a classic
Like a famous Overture in C Major or such
Or invent a new mode of transportation
New York to LA in a nano-touch

How about a new food to tickle our fancy
Yummy yummy tween me and you
A new drink to make us more intelligent
Finally no more known as a goof

Still woke grinning like a silly old fool
So what could be the reason then
Must be something like a big bunch of gas
Or more likely it's earth's playpen

Poor Humpty Dumpty was a numpty when he fell off the garden wall
His poor old ma went bananas, told me to buzz off when I call

Guess I better sit on the shelf otherwise I’ll go completely nuts
I ain’t gonna take no stick from that mangy old bunch of mutts

I’ll get myself a fix of chocolate cos I could do with a little lift
But I’ll end up with a spare tyre, that blubber I’m gonna have to shift

I’m feeling so blue and sad today the gremlins are in my life
Perhaps I better go for a stroll or I’ll get an ear bashing from the wife

Maybe I’ll see some dickie birds or a cute fluffy little bunny
If I see their lil’ bob tails, oh man they look so darn funny

Next I'll grab the old gal some chox and a nice bunch of flowers
She’ll be putting on her war paint, boy that can take some hours

Now I’m gonna sit on the fence and try and get a little rest
Got my best bib and tucker on - I’m dressed in my Sunday best

Premium Member UNTIL MY ARMS GOT TIRED

It was a wonderful afternoon…one that would make any parent glad…
We spent it with our grandson Damien, his wife Trista,
our great-granddaughter Violet and Trista’s mom and dad.

They came to the cabin for a visit…yes, including their dog Ghost, the entire bunch
and to make things even more special…they brought along pizzas for lunch.

Adding to this beautiful afternoon…again I must assert…
Deborah made a salad to go with the pizzas and and eclair cake for dessert.

Getting a chance to know Trista’s parents was awesome…one we won’t forget
and one of the highlights for the old folks…was getting to hold Violet.

Holding Violet in our arms…we all felt energized, exhilarated and inspired…
I was blessed to walk around holding her for so long…my arms got tired.

She would cry and I’d walk and rock her to and fro…it’s a memory I shall keep
as she gazed up at me with her wide eyes, then slowly close them and fell asleep.

How we love moments like this…a moment when two people blend…
and how we wish we could stop time…so that moment would never end.

We have such a short time to hold our children, grandchildren
and great-grandchildren safe within our arms…
A short time when they are with us every minute
and we can keep them safe from harm.

So we learn to cherish these moments…
while we can still hold them in our arms
where, in the intimacy of the moment, we can enjoy their beauty and their charms.

There will come a day when Violet will be too big to carry in my arms…
when I’ll wish in the course of a rhyme
That, for a moment, just for a moment, we could go back in time…

To this particular day…when I was energized and inspired…
the day I walked and rocked and cradled my great-granddaughter
for so long
my arms got tired.

Cheers To Life

"Cheers to life"
Your sins won't be washed away in afterlife.
We are the puppets of inevitability.
Our only saviors are chances and our abilities.

"Cheers to life"
There is only misery and misfortune in sight.
And only one question repeats at the end of the day "why?"
We met with a hi and ended with a sad goodbye.

"Cheers to life"
The worst is yet to come by.
No thing would ever satisfy a human's thirst.
Time and mistakes cannot ever be reversed.

"Cheers to life"
It is a beautiful sacrifice.
There is no finish line.
Just a bunch of memories varying from darkness to cloud-nine.

Premium Member Murder Mystery

The rain it pelts
The lightning crashes
A shadowy figure
Through streetlight dashes

The strangers meet
The wine is poured
To infiltrate
The secrets stored

The army man
The cook, the nurse
Field questions deep
Without rehearse

To crack the code.
To solve the crime.
Complete the task
Pre coffee-time

This desperate crew
This shady bunch
Explore, unblinking
Every hunch

Accusatory
Fists they slam!
"Rice pudding?" Please.
"A blob of jam?"

The time bomb ticks
Suspicions linger
The awful truth
Of pointy finger

A crime of lust?
Inheritance gain?
The washing-up
Will still remain..

At last conclude.
The mortal sin
Has been revealed
The verdict's in

A lover's tiff.
A desperate heart.
But love enhanced
As friends depart

We all agree..
Despite the rain
To murder is fun
Let's do this again

Poem 1

                                          Her heart stirred, she smiled
looking at the face she loved.
                                          His eyes mirrored hope
                                          remembering their lost love
                                          crushed by fate, re-awakened

Poem 2

Where is the light that lived within,
Why has the flame of doubt appeared.
The trees bend slightly in the wind
Towards darkness, now have you veered.

Focus on the things dear to you,
Where is the light that lived within.
Your day will come before it's through,
You that have, not died, with sin.

Deep in your soul, you seek therein
The pleasures, that should not have been.
Where is the light that lived within.
Questions of how this came and when

How long have you abandoned life
What have you done, where have you been,
Will you choose to remain in strife
Where is the light, that lived within.

Premium Member Mary and Uppity

It was on a Friday night, and my entire family
went out for dinner at an ‘all you can eat buffet’.

My brother is 9 and loves baseball, but hates math;
I’m 11 years old and love reading, science, and soccer;
So there was me, Mary, Mom, dad, and my brother Timmy.
Stomachs fat and full, we then rushed off to a kid’s movie.

The movie was a blast, entitled, “Upy, Upper, and Uppity”.
It was really funny and exciting to the whole bunch of us.
Upy and Upper were a lot like my parents who teach us to be kind to others. Uppity was unlike anyone I had ever seen.
The movie made me think about being thankful and respectful toward others.

Anyway, bone tired after the movie, we went straight home.
Timmy and I had milk and cookies; then off to bed we went.

During the night I had a dream; or was it a nightmare? In the nightmare, which of course frighten me, Upy was a nice little cat; and Upper was a well trained and behaved dog. Both of them were pets owned by the same family. But then there was Uppity, a large dog who lived several blocks away in a much classier community.

One quiet day, I and Timmy were walking Upy and Upper and happened to pass Uppity’s house. That’s when all
quiet disappeared, and Uppity started barking like a wild dog. His barking words were clear as day as he broke
through his half opened gate: “This is my high class and wealthy neighborhood where the likes of you do not belong!!!!” By the time he said ‘the likes of you’, he was out the gate; and we were running for our lives!! That’s when I,
full of sweat and tears, woke from my nightmare.

I was so relieved when I realized it was a dream. When I shared the dream with mom and dad, I was reassured that I had nothing to fear. They then said to me, “Mary, for sure,
there are ‘uppity people’ in our world, but we will never be like them”.

Premium Member Here Comes Steampunk Annie

If I was part machine, a steampunk woman, or a steampunk dog, or a steampunk cat,
I would choose to have a machine heart, so I could be less soft.
So my feelings would not get hurt so easily, so I could
Stop crying inside when people get mean and mad,
Or a tsunami kills a bunch of innocents.
I would also choose machine eyes – big round soft brown ones,
Because of the floaties I have in my older green and hazel eyes.
Floaties could not get into steampunk eyes, right?
I would choose bendable, new steampunk machine knees.
They would jump and summersault and do cartwheels and
Other stuff I can no longer do after tearing my ACL and
Meniscus which never got fixed, because it happened
At work and Workman’s Comp told me at my age,
Surgery would not be smart.
They would call me Steampunk Annie, and I would
Run up and down alleys, saving people from the robbers,
And the drug pushers, and I would kick the drug pushers
In their petootsies and make them cry
Because they would not have steampunk eyes
Or anything. I would rock the Steampunk
World with sass and vim, and be
The super hero I know I can be!
