God and Austerity
The supermarket that calls itself Forum,
has a bell tower, but now, in time of
austerity, no one flocks to buy anything
when its bells ring every hour.
Sunday, when I drove my wife to church
the car park was full of vehicles
the bells didn’t
toll in vain; when I looked through
the window people were singing hymns.
When time is good, god becomes distant
But with economic times and threats
of a new war is looming, people turn to
an abstraction in time of an unsure future.
Mind, god looks after his flock, walking
around the car park, I noticed most cars
looked new, but if you have got it and want
to keep it a prayer goes a long way.
The older she gets
the more anxious she becomes.
Her worries flow through
as she paces back and forth.
She is afraid to say anything
even to ones she feels safest with.
Why is her mind filling with concerns
as she tries to live her best young life?
She is so sweet and gentle,
so I ask God every day to guide her through.
I wrap my arms around her and hope
that she will know how much she is loved.
I make sure that I boost her confidence and
tell her what an amazing person she is becoming.
She is growing up in an anxious society,
and I fear it will only get harder for her.
There is only one thing I can do,
so I pray to God to show me the answers.
How do I help her through?
Little Jack Marty
He was a smarty
Sitting in his second grade online class
He developed an urge to pass some gas
When it came out of Little Marty’s shell
It had that pumping smell
Hearing the tiger roar as it ripped out the young boy’s door
Watching his computer screen he saw Abigail studying to be a teen Queen
Crossing the street
The smell did travel tangy and sweet
It went under the door without a word
Stairs it crept
Past the room where last night Abigail slept
As the aroma approached
Little Jack Marty watched Abigail and said, “She is toast”
Taking a whiff Abigail straightened up very stiff
Her eyes bulged and face turned green with a tinge of white
Due to the smell that was airy and light
Typing away Little Jack Marty did say,
“You have been visited by the toot toot fairy”
In which she replied, “Oh you are so scary”
“Little Jack Marty did you cut the cheese?”
“I am alone in my room and I do as I please.”
He typed back about the environmental attack
Suddenly the teacher popped on the screen looking stern and mean
“What are you two doing anything to do with schooling?”
The teacher did ask with no need for a cut the cheese mask.
Looking into the camera Little Jack Marty said that he was sorry,
“Yes, I cut the cheese then disturbed the peace, I will now be quiet and will not start a panic riot, carry on with the online class while I hold my gas.”
Smiling the teacher was impressed
When Little Jack Marty confessed
About his too tee
That was a beauty
It's always the ones
Who lives their lives
Talking on no responsibility
And not a care in the world
Not even helping with parents
They don't care but the
Minute a parent or loved one
Dies, they'll show up
Demanding or thinking that
They're owe or entitled to something
When they haven't help or
Done anything at all for that parent
Spouting how it was their parents
To, but they knew that all along
But didn't want to help with
The responsibilities, didn't lift
A finger, but demands something
But don't worry whatever they get
It won't last with them because
Those spirits know who deserves nothing
Another day passes me by
I sit alone and cry and cry
Keep asking myself why
Why do i suffer in so much pain
Do i have anything on this earth to gain
What purpose do i serve in this world
Or could i just be another girl
Is there nothing special about me
Do i lack in every degree
Is there really nothing good about me
Why do people tell me lies
Why do people make me cry
Why do all these things happen why
Sometimes i just wish i could just die
So i will be left alone
With no worries of my own
No more questions
No more tears no more you no more me
But then i wake up and reality hits
Another day to live like this.
By Naderia Bookram
The angels are terrifying
too close are they to perfection?
when immediately inrushing
come evil demons of destruction
A play of cosmic force
confusing and desperate
life’s continual unfulfilled course
until God is reached as non-separate
The angel followed by its mirror face
Is in its appearance to man
So when its beauty flows out in space
An empty sadness sucks up all it can
Angels seen at other times
As deadly birds of the soul
Confusing views confusing rhymes
Others sometimes hopeful bold and whole
Lacking understanding
Incapable of love or compassion
Self- enthralled lacking in relating
How is this perfection, it’s narcissism?
Projection of Rilke’s isolation and despair
Depression and loneliness
Incompleteness, lack of empathy, of care
A world of sadness and transientness
Rilke’s angels give me no peace
They are no angels at all
They are empty ghosts of self-containment
Looking out and offering nothing
I would not call on them
While crying or singing
Nor depend on them for anything
They are useless views out of desperation
Silent nothings in space concoctions of despair
Wishes for something
Where there is nothing from where to wish
I close them off to everything sacred
The name of angel is blasphemous
They hold nothing of holiness or peace
They are as empty as a hollow wooden doll
Plastic wrapped in cheap oriental paper
Awake me muse, for I need to commit,
To something, anything that will keep me fit
Before me sits, an unbuilt kit,
waiting for me to assemble it
With steady hands ready to work,
Unboxing, pulling out pieces,
for all they are worth
Parts and pieces dispersed here and there,
instructions interpreted as somewhat fair
Leave it to me, I’ll get it done,
better late than never, I told someone.
Time has come, to glue this to that,
prime, sand, then paint all that
To finish the task at one’s feet,
the process calls for it to repeat
Don’t call me a bad guy,
if I justify why you should electrify
You can paint or wallpaper any wall,
it doesn’t much matter to me at all
With all those lights still so dark,
plug in with “AC” to get a spark
Once we throw the thumb-wheel switch,
we behold all that glows,
hopefully, without a hitch.
I can proudly say to you this day,
this dolls house is ready and on its way
Ready for you to decorate
with folks gathering to participate
Thanking you in advance
for this build of mine
and approving of my timeline
At some point, you might say,
at his best, he was a gifted Miniaturist
One day closer to death…I find
Gone is my reason.. for rhymes
What I hoped would one day be mine
Will never feel what I’m feeling inside
Our distance doesn’t change..what you mean
We still meet at night.. in my dreams
I know these words.. won’t mean anything
Now that we both wear rings
If I could’ve
I would’ve
And I should’ve
Laid it..all out on the line
To tell you the truth
I couldn’t risk losing you
And the heartache still lives in my life
I’ve held onto the want.. and the pain
Knowing I’ve nothing to gain
Like these words will be read in vain
It’s hell the weight of my blame
I can’t take back what I.. used to be
Now time has turned into our thief
I know these words can’t make you believe
You’re thought of with each breath I breathe
If I could’ve
I would’ve
And I should’ve
Laid it..all out on the line
To tell you the truth
I couldn’t risk losing you
And the heartache still lives in my life
To tell you the truth
I couldn’t risk losing you
And the heartache still lives in my life
When I am old and gray I wish to die quite far away.
To be reincarnated as soon as I am able to come back.
And to be a steam shovel in my next life, and hey,
I want to be powerful, with steam, not a hack.
As a steam shovel I will chomp into the grass.
Chewing it up in large gulps, leaving square holes.
People will come around and watch in mass.
Awed that I am so powerful and meet my goals.
They will call me steamy, and they will fear me too.
I will be gobbling up yards as quickly as anything they have seen.
The children will cheer when they see me in my metal blue.
I will be strong and quick, effective, but never mean.
Yes, when I am old and gray, I will not fear my death at all.
For I know I will be coming back in a glorious non-dream.
I will be lithe, and lean, smartly painted and rather tall.
Best of all, everyone will applaud when they see my steam.
Life’s taken so much from you, but
it can’t destroy your dreams
Tried but was not successful, cause
you're stronger … than you seem
Never spiraled out of control
stayed incredibly strong
Made all the right decisions,
didn’t do anything wrong
Never wallowed in depression
for years felt, come and go
Never panicked when it was bad
you just went … with the flow
Confronting your tomorrow's those
realized extremely tough
These challenges gave to God, then
went out and did … your stuff!
You buckled down, drew close to God,
“let go and you let God”
Trusting Him has served you well, through
emergencies … you’ve trod
Life cannot destroy your dreams,
God’s filled your heart with hope,
“Eternity in Paradise”
till then ….he’ll help you cope
