One Candle

A flame
the greatest threat
to the twilight
 of being

One candle
in the darkness
rebirthing
— the night

My Love In Candlelight

My Love In Candlelight (c) by Russ Dodson 1963, 1985, 2025

The burning candle flickers low
and in the dancing, darting flame
I see your face and now I know
what longing is, I call your name.

I know you hear but you won't heed
my plaintive cry and all the while
my heart cries out it's greatest need,
you do not speak, you only smile.

This isn't real, it can't be true.
You're with him in some other place!
Yet still I feel your presence near,
and still I see your lovely face.

Again I say you can't be here!
I knock the candle to the floor,
but still within the fluttering flame
I see your face, just as before.

Then the candle, flickers, dying,
as it sheds a waxen tear,
can it be that you are crying,
as if afraid the end is near?

The candle now gives up the fight,
the feeble flame begins to wane
and then goes out, and I was right,
for in the dark you're gone again.

Intermittance

Love is a candle burning at both ends.

We’re staring at colors not yet meant to be framed.

A prototype mixture of vermilion and cerulean,
raised to the power of negative sixteen in transmittance.

Deliverance delayed, waiting in the DLC.

Within the range of projected infamy,
unnamed protocols remain unrendered, once derailed,
absorbed by parameters etched into
the Everlasting Struggle.

The unyielding, plain color of pain.

RED. RED. RED. RED.

I wish I’d never seen you from so far away.

Doppler blue. Roentgen to Gray.
But I was only ten milliseconds astray.

How did phase become so overpowering?

Amaranth-fuchsia is said to delay even faith.

Love, in its highest sincerity,
is a candle that
burns efficiently
at both ends.

Flickering Light

I am a flickering light -
a little candle -
a dancing flame so happy to have been set alight!

But I am fragile, Father.
A sudden gust could blow me out.
A brief shower of rain.
A spiteful touch from cold fingers.
A swell of noxious pride at my own tiny mortal beauty.

So hold me very close, Father.
Shield me with your mighty, gentle hand.
Be patient with me as only you could be.

For I am a forgetful and unfaithful little heart.
But, at least for a moment,
I can offer you my sincere desire to love you,
though I fear that I hardly have the power to love at all.

But you make all things new.

One Year of You, Melissa

One Year of You, Melissa

One year ago, the stars began,
And heaven said, "She is mine."
A small spark, a breath so new,
The world was brighter all for you.

Your giggles flower like morning sun,
Your eyes, two stars that brightly shine.
Each step you take, each sound you make,
Turns average days awake.

You've taught us love in its pure form,
In warm fingers and sleepy sighs.
One smile, a coo so soft,
The world seems new with you.

We have witnessed you grow, in wonder, in awe,
Each step taken in love and law.
From lullabies to weeping whines,
You've filled our hearts, you've filled our skies.

Here's to you, our birthday star,
Our miracle, just as you are.
May grace and happiness be with you,
With oceans broad dreams to chase.

A single candle today, but, oh, the flame
It shines hope, it whispers your name.
Happy birthday, little dove,
You are our world, our limitless love.

Ghost Light

Stun me.
Rewind your music.
Tap your feet to the sound that stirs you.
Listen—
the cuckoo clock is counting seconds back.
Brush the cobwebs from your eyes.
Reignite.

Slip into your own pocket.
Become your own muse.
A compass. A flame.

Listen to your pulse.
Move where your body leads.
Unravel the ache.
Open the door.
Let joy rush in.

Tousle your hair.
Wriggle your shoulders.
Fall, unbraced, into your dream.

Take the wheel.
Lock the door.
Shape your new world—
one breath, one spark, one word at a time.

Let the ocean
crash against the rocks of your love.

Braid wildflowers into your hair.

Blow bubbles—
let smoke and romance fill the space between you.

Angel-winged, glitter-eyed,
under a star-stung night—
but still,
your eyes shine brighter.

Astral projection is nice.
But real life is better.

So—
snuff out the candle.
Empty the vase.
Kiss the memory of him goodbye.

Turn your face up
towards the open door.
And let in the daylight.

The burn of the urn
spills on the floor.
I am not what you carry.

Let me be.
Let me go.

I will wait for you in the shade.
Then, when it’s your turn—
we will turn the page.

Premium MemberYour greatest strength

In your heart a candle burns,
help its light to grow
See how all darkness fades,
enabling love to flow
Feel how your chest comes to rest,
how inner warmth appears,
like a kind warm embrace
soothing all pain and tears

In this warmth your inner light
brightens and glows,
burning away harsh edges
so what no longer serves clears out
This reveals you are pure love,
love without end,
affirming your gentleness
is your greatest strength

Premium MemberThe Ecstasy of Saint Teresa

Her body becomes a chapel
opened by flame,
arched in surrender
to a light too holy for flesh.
The angel smiles
          (soft and deliberate)
as if he knows
ecstasy is edged with death.

She breathes not air but radiance,
each gasp a half-formed prayer.
Her ribs open like shutters
and eternity bursts in there.

No shame in this trembling.
She is the altar, and bride,
and lover, and flame,
whom God enters not with thunder,
but with fire too deep to name.

Her body is incandescent—
like a moth in a candle flame—
every nerve a silver filament
burning at the edge of breaking.
She cries out without sound,
a prayer too fierce for words.

She lies in the hush that follows,
emptied yet brimming with rapture.
Flushed with the glow of Unknowing,
she becomes the crystalline Castle
where light returns home to itself.

“In trying times the touch of compassion uplifts
the sunk spirit from the depth of depression”- By Poet

You walk the content life through the dulcet days
on the rose garden's dream-paved cinnamon pathway.
Along the winding wake of the butterflies you chase
the rustle of rapture, making sure the pursuit won't stray.

Soon enough you reach the edge of the opaque night
when the surging storm shatters the somber sky,
the pole star disappears out of your sullen sight,
the trying time torments you, you don’t know why.

A wreck, you crumble in the rueful ruins of sadness,
stow the shards of crushed life in depth of depression,
where you vainly search for you in the dreary darkness,
despair wraps you with the shroud of dejection.

The emphatic glow of my passion’s candle you’ll then find
like the mesmeric moon in the onyx sky shining bright.
You’ll rise from the debris of the melancholic mind,
for in the dark of dismal night I’ll be your longing light.

Power Of A Single Candle

      A single candle
   can light thousands

More Than Winning

Life is so much to yourself
Like running a race to a crowd
If you can't win, help others to win
Even if it means slowing down
Or changing your own race
Perhaps we can change our heart
Perhaps someone else's hearts too
A candle loses nothing
If another candles is lights up
From its flame.

She dips her brush in beauty and paints with tears of joy
She recites a loving novel with a wish and a sigh
She lights a single candle gazing through the night
Awaiting her loving hero to arrive in morning light....
Luminescent, Serendipitous, Melliflous in her Whimsical roll
She plucks a delicate flower and places it at the door....
Time slowly yearning pushing a moment through
Unfurling a banner of love upon the morning blue....
