This pile of pills keeps me afloat,
Washed down with beetroot juice each day
To keep the aches and pains at bay
And ailments more substantial. Who knows
Just where or who I'd be without them
Or what indeed each one bestows
To aid and optimise performance ?
The red ones and the blue ones,
Each of some importance,
Mingle with the squarish pink and multi-coloured
Striped ones. Some dissolve in water
And are ready for the fray,
Ready for the battles , hidden from our sight,
Each has a role to play.
But are they players in a team,
With a clear united mission,
Or is each within our bloodstream
Jostling for position ?
We follow doctor's orders,
Blind faith is what's required.
These cures for our disorders
We've swallowed as prescribed.
Sometimes they'll solve the problem,
Sometimes they surely don't.
We hope they may prolong our life
But fear they maybe won't.
We can't predict our future
Or measure years we've gained or lost,
So keep on with the tablets -
And keep your fingers crossed !
Ashes in the faces of Africans
some blowing from hands
Lent is here with us as sure deal
Food is playing hide and seek
water lives underground
dustbins are empty
nocturnal animals share the fast
This is Lent without priests
no holy mass to be celebrated
no church-goers to be active
but all are in Lent times
Keep your fingers crossed
someone is to die on Holy Friday
he may not be Son of God
Messiah he may not be
A Jew he is not to be
but a man born among us
not the prince of peace
anointed by popular acclamation
blessed by the underworld
rejected by the skies
He will die on Cross of Gold
and will not rise on the third day
So the waiting continues
in Africa
I feel no sorrow
And have no shame
I might even have someone to blame
But I could be yours
If your in the right place
My jacket is smooth
And I am straight to the point
I can even be a hollow point
All this powder behind me can get my off
So you better keep your fingers crossed
That today is not your day for a head shot
I enter the chamber dressed in a brass suit
And as you squeeze that trigger I come out of my shoot
I fly through the air at twelve hundred feet per second
And I hit you In a matter of seconds
Down you go as I tear through your skull
Exiting with a giant hole
I am a bullet and I have your name on me
All because you got in front of me
There is hope and optimism before the season.
The play of the Eagles is the reason.
It’s only pre-season and the real games haven’t begun.
However, the boys in green a silver look like number one.
They have gone the first three games routing the opposition.
They appear to be a team headed for the top position.
A Super Bowl berth is where each team aims.
The Eagles have a grueling schedule of sixteen games.
Luck isn’t everything, but keep your fingers crossed.
Let’s gun for wins and very few games lost.
