Premium MemberDeath Embrace

Written: April 12, 2025 for contest Sponsored by: Sara Jama

            ****************

Chills run down your spine,
close to fear.
You hear her whisper
softly in your ear:
"Are you ready to breathe
your last breath?
Will you surrender
into the arms of Death?"

Gentle, concerned faces
gather around you.
The echoes of stifled
sobs crum the air. . .
The priest prayers
play out as a silent mime.
She smiles and murmurs,
"It's almost time. "

Her cold, invisible hand
rest upon your fevered brow.
Your freedom feels
much closer now.
You sense your wife's warmth
from a distance near,
How comforting are the
tender touches here.

Her serene expression caught your eye,
A dying man's final
distant glance.
With a gentle kiss,
she takes your breath.
Your broken, aching body
embraces Death.

Premium MemberSerpents, scorpions, owls

Entry for: Serpents, scorpions, owls poetry contest.

Sponsor: Sara Jama

I think I have met them all
    - the sneaky serpent -
    - the toxic scorpion -
    - the wise owl -

There are some things in nature to be cautious with,
amongst the multitude of things to enjoy
People can reflect these very things
As I walk through life, I observe the reflections
I make choices along the way, as best I can
The owl hoots to remind me, he or she is still there
As well as lessons I have learned - and I will not break -

Premium MemberJourney through the night sky

Skating on Saturns rings contest, sponsor Sara Jama 17/2 /25

If I were a being with angel wings
I’d go skating on Saturn’s rings
I’d glide along as on thin ice
I think that that would feel so nice

If I were that being I’d fly very far
As far and far as the evening star
I’d bathe in the warmth of her silver light
I think that that would feel just right

Then off I would go to visit Mars
To collect some magic in mason jars
For the magic of mars is old redwood
I think that that would feel real good

I’d visit all the spheres in the dark night sky
To see wondrous worlds before I die
I’d land on each, the hot and cold
I think that that would feel very bold

We’re allowed to dream, it is our right
So when I go to bed at night
I dream about amazing things
Like Mars and moons and Saturns rings

MY BLOODY VALENTINE

[Written for contest ‘MY BLOODY VALENTINE’ sponsored by Sara Jama : placed 5th]

MY BLOODY VALENTINE

This villain on a coin
     this shadow on a sea
                                 wind join
this seventh dimensional
                                phantom
who builds a house
foundation in a week full of
           breasty beastie atoms
                                deep heat beats

Professor of Women
                   and Escapism
of nerdy words
                       comely gird
bloody red bloody
                            Valentine bird
Red Eye feather
               Heyoka Healer come hither
            bloody moon strewn
fast forward coon
                          colonial sailor bloom

No other key to fit bit
                    my hip kite light white
               so tight, this heighty
                                   mighty blight
always bloody outa
sight !

My Bloody Valentine

the roses scream in silken wails
red-stained whispers, love impaled
thorns still buried in my spine
a gift from you, my valentine

your kisses bled, your touch was steel
soft as razors, sharp and real
your vow, a noose of silk and lace
tightened in a last embrace

petals wilt in crimson streams
love runs deeper than it seems
with every thorn, a sweet refrain—
i’d die to feel your touch again

Premium MemberTime Never Sits For No One

Time stops for no one Poetry Contest
Sara Jama

From the first heartbeat to the very last
From the first cry to the last gasp
Life and time rise and then fall
The hands on the external clock never pausing
As the legs of the day keep moving
From dashing sunrises to dashing sunsets
To the everlasting stars and moons in the sky
To the gravitation pull of the tides
Life keeps marching on
Orchestrated like and infinite
To the rhythm of the seasons
To the spins of the earth
Time never sits
Time never sits for anyone
Even when we're gone
As the sands of time
Funnel through our hourglass
Methodically, esoteric, and destined
Each pebble is a milestone in our lives
Each pebble adds purpose to our internal clocks
These heaps of pebbles lead us up the hill and down
From the first baby steps, childhood to adulthood
And to the lifetime of discoveries
From baby blues to aging greys
These stepping stones mark time
And our existence though short-lived
Where our internal clocks naturally yield in the end
As light begets darkness
And only then does the time sit inside our window
Outside nature continues its course

Wide Open Skies

(Entered for Contest: Memories Lost Within A Frozen Mist. Sponsor: Sara Jama.
Deadline 8th April 2025)

Do you remember, those wide open skies?
when we were younger, with wide open eyes
the world was our view, from the Empire State
or walking that walk, on the Golden Gate
days when tomorrows, were never ending
long before sorrow, had started trending
maybe I will see, those clear skies again
but who can say where? and who can say when?
wild oceans begin, to keep us apart
but I'll keep faith in, a wide open heart.
