Death Embrace
Written: April 12, 2025 for contest Sponsored by: Sara Jama
****************
Chills run down your spine,
close to fear.
You hear her whisper
softly in your ear:
"Are you ready to breathe
your last breath?
Will you surrender
into the arms of Death?"
Gentle, concerned faces
gather around you.
The echoes of stifled
sobs crum the air. . .
The priest prayers
play out as a silent mime.
She smiles and murmurs,
"It's almost time. "
Her cold, invisible hand
rest upon your fevered brow.
Your freedom feels
much closer now.
You sense your wife's warmth
from a distance near,
How comforting are the
tender touches here.
Her serene expression caught your eye,
A dying man's final
distant glance.
With a gentle kiss,
she takes your breath.
Your broken, aching body
embraces Death.
