They don't know that
She doesn't know
That she is
A poet
Her doctor suggested
It good therapy
But barely
Had she
Three or
Four before her
Next session to show
Progression in any shape or
Form so from
The lack of
Anyone
Saying
Anything in the way
Of comments she
Thought of
Committing
Not suicide or
Institutionalizing
But herself to writing
More so to take them all
Along
On one
Heck of
Crazy
Ride

To society I’m just a teen
Almost an adult, but still so green
Held back by an invisible screen
That makes, to society, a difference between
Being the ages of seventeen and eight-teen
I’m told the world is not what it seems to be
In a world full of people you’re as small as a pea
Not everyday goes by like a cup of tea
No one breaks out in a song like in glee
You have to, in you’re mind, be able to see
That not everything and everybody in this society is free
Society lays upon us rule after rule
Insisting they be followed but not overruled
Even at a young age, institutionalizing them in school
But what they don’t realize is that they have been fooled
By remind us, and making us feel like a minuscule
They have just angered us, and we are using it as our fuel
To break everyone of their rules just to see them ridiculed

I should be writing another paper
I should have turned this in on time
I need to study for a test
I need register for class
My head is throbbing in my skull
My eyes drooping, after last night
My heart is aching for stimulation
My mind is drained, they’ve sucked me dry
Finals are just around the corner
Make up test are on the rise
Everyone is sick these days
And we need to make up lab reports
The pulsing hum of education
Institutionalizing my brain
And I can find no resolution
Standardize us all the same
