General Bedford Forest

CSA General Bedford Forest
Mighty killing warrior
Would've won the war no jest
If his horses were survivors

Gen. Forest lost 30 horses during the civil war and killed more soldiers than any
other general. It could be said he was lucky or his horses were unfortunate.

Leaving the War Behind

Leaving the War Behind
for Elihu Burritt, peacemaker

The cannon thundered in the South,
    	And with the sound
     	The carols drowned
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
- H. W. Longfellow, “Christmas Bells”

1863, your old friend Longfellow almost
despairing. What a year! The Union
torn. Chancellorsville. War’s ravenous mouth.
And then came Vicksburg, Gettysburg.
The whole land lay in a bloody drouth,
the cannon thundered in the South,

and Elihu, you sailed away. For years
you let the ink flow like a sea
to float the cause of Peace. Yet you found
no peace at home. Was it a personal
surrender, to be England-bound?
And with the sound

of waves and seabirds, did you leave
behind the burden of a homeland
north to south a battleground?
Could a foreign landscape comfort
you? Or did war images confound –
the carols drowned

in military march-time in your head?
As summer waned, the loss of Chickamauga.
Brother killing brother in a marshy fen.
Elihu, did you never quite give up
the distant hope – oh where, and when? –
of peace on earth, good-will to men?

The once was a Native American Navajo
Who served his country and to war did go.
He wrote codes by the score
Which helped end the war
But came home to no fame, “Oh, no.”

The World War II ends in ‘45
Choctaw and Comanche side by side
Broke the back of the Fuhrer
Our messages got through sure!
With out their gift we’d not stem the tide!

It took fifty five years and more
For the US to give medals they wore
Many went to their graves
Still feeling enslaved
But, Congressional Gold the corpse bore.

Seen God Lately?

Just to set things straight before I rant on.
I believe in God
Religion in almost any form disgusts me
They were given this earth and life in all its glory
What did they do in appreciation ?
They promptly invented a better place!
Heaven. Paradise. Angels, Virgins (why?)
And of course Satan with his burning Hell
It's like being given water to drink and defecating in it
Oh I forgot, we did that.
Then of course they branched out into sects
Protestant, Catholic, Sunni, etal
Convincing Irish men to war with each other
over how to please God
As to Earth (The Gift from God)
They war over who gets to destroy it
They die to actually own it
Complete with headstone.
Usually in the best area for living.
How do you religious ingrates live with this sin?
In blind senseless destruction of all it can be.
