Across the river there’s a crane
That’s 30 stories high,
The operator like
A Lego man up in the sky.
As loads are lifted in the air
And gently set in place,
I wish that I could clearly see
That operator’s face.
I know I would be terrified
But likely, he is not.
I cannot fathom how he even
Reached that sky-high spot.
Yet he is up there, hard at work
While safely down below,
I gaze at the construction site
And watch the building grow.

I stood on a high spot of the mountain,
wholly bewitched by the astounding view.
I gazed in marvel at the small fountain
from where my journey had started anew.
How pale and petty she looked from afar!
Yet, how fresh and splendid she seemed to me,
who prized all the steps from her on a par,
For to the whole process she was the key.
She stood tall and pointed to the summit;
Then whispered gently: “You have just set out!
Follow your dream! Strive to realize it!
Believe in it and let your will be stout!”
I assured her that I would never stop
Climbing through my journey up to the top.

There was a castle on a hill
It only took hours to build
Buckets and buckets of sand
Two pairs of children's hands
A vacant high spot on the beach
Just out of the low tides reach
Two kids, plastic shovels and pails
Construct a castle minus hammers and nails
The ground floor must be the driest
As water seeps down from the highest
A little shovelful here and there
Customized architectural repairs
A spectacular four story sight
The envy of Frank Lloyd Wright
Onlookers and passers by
Give congratulatory high fives
There's not much time to gloat
Changing tide is filling the moat
Once the water spills over the side
The sand will swim out with the tide

RUSSIAN CHILDREN’S VERSE CONTEST ( FOR FIVE YEAR OLDS )
Oh, Ivan Ivanovich, your eyes are so blue and beautiful
And your mom is really cool and wonderful
If you want to come to my party Saturday
We can talk for ages and maybe even play
I’m writing this poem for you cos you’re ace
Please come early to my party at my place
By the way you know my friend Mitya -
Well, put him down as a prize winner, won't ya?
And my cousin Artem, well he can't really write,
But a prize would sure make his eyes shine bright.
Thanks, Masha Alexandrovna, I think your eyes are lovely too
I am going to give you a great prize or two
For such a good poem full of words and stuff, with skill
You even had stuff like endings - rhyme, if you will,
And almost every word was spelded correktly
I will be at your party at seven directly.
And sure - I will put Mitya in a high spot near you
And Artem can have a prize up there too
I don't recall seeing their stuff on paper
But that's just a detail of the whole caper.
