weird bird tweet
cheep cheep cheep
traffic in the distance
barely perceptible breeze
rooster crow
dogs chase squirrel
his get away is lickety split
up a hickory tree
wind chimes a merry melody
smell of autumn leaves
a far off conversation
drowned out by ambulance siren
motorcycle engine revs
trill of another bird
I soak up the sunshine
feeling safe in Vitamin D
dog’s gruff bark startles me
his pal runs off the porch
air conditioner kicks on
the only sound now except the wind chime
gentle sounds of an October day at noon

it is owl about us
owl about us
they are fancy and feathered
and they love making a fuss
it is owl about us
we are the most comfortable two
it is owl about us
not you, you or you
we other birds are annoyed
but we try to ignore them
the owl couple in love
I try not to score them
owl about us, you and me
owl about us, it has to be
owl about us, owl about us
the rest of us stay high in the hickory tree

Cosmos magic assails me, delights me, entices me.
Heavenly bliss smiles upon my willingness to become one.
Spiritual energy lifts me, inspires me.
Ascending, I transmute
A star now, I smile at my empty chair.
Other stars congregate around me. Welcome back, they whisper.
Not in a voice, but in gentle, loving, thoughts.
I recognize them, they are the ones I had forgotten.
I am feeling blissful, loved, experiencing a soul level I had
Been banned from retaining in my earth body.
My empty chair sends love to the hickory tree behind her.
I realize they are related. At one time, she was an offshoot from
the tree's roots.
I am an offshoot of another world.
Leaving this one behind will be no hardship.
Sparkling, dazzling energy enhances and promotes sheer happiness.
I feel a delight I had forgotten.
I am delicately surrounded by the cosmos which loves me now,
Has always loved me, and will forever love me.
I say "I have missed you so much!"
Knowing the one I have missed is me.
I have never felt so loved.

A friend is a strong light-post
Standing supportive
And lighting your way for you
A friend is like the moon
Always there for you
And strongest when nearest
A friend understands you well
Listens to your cries
As well as your joys and victories
A friend is like a hickory tree
Supplying food when you need it
And burns hot, when you are cold
A friend sits alongside you
Even when you are wrong
And supports you endeavors nonetheless
A friend is longstanding
Like the light-post
Ever radiant and giving free light
A friend is always there for you
No matter what you have done
And will always be your friend
No matter the disguise you have on!

She meandered through
new spring grass, startling bugs
shortening their lives, taking her fill
seemingly unimpressed
with grandeur displayed
solely for her benefit.
His swagger almost took him
airborne, his tail feathers spread
into a fan of splendor
his princely prance seemingly
not even a blip on her view
Our appearance on the scene
assured his utmost strut, trumpeting
at us as we laughed and mocked
his silly gobble
Yet his strategy succeeded
She now sits on her nest
at the edge of the yard
under the hickory tree, just beyond
where the mower runs

I met a slick hick
from the sticks
who gave me a hickey
beneath the hickory tree.
I faked hiccups
hoping he would flee
but he stood there
like a schmuck
trying to help
me stop the hiccups.
Oh, dear (hic) not again!
Hold your breath (hic)
and count to ten.
Standing on your head
(hic) works, I think.
Hold your nose (hic)
and take a drink.
I was ticked
because I couldn't trick him,
so I kicked him.

I’m not much into phonies
And I love to play the ponies
I spend too much shoppin’
And do too less moppin’
I love my amazing hubby
My fantastic cat, Chubby
Starbuck’s Passion Iced Tea
That trashy Reality TV
My famed DVR recorder
Though not exactly in that order!
I am crazy about my fitness classes
And adorable old men who make passes
'Experts' say I have ADD, but I don’t agree
The reasons…Wow look, a hickory tree!!!***
I fancy fine champagne and microbrew beer
When the Broncos are on, you’ll hear me cheer
Well, good friends, alas, my departing…
Why, you ask? Big Brother is starting!!!
***Warning: If you ‘get’ this, you just might have ADD :)

The old campfire was pleasant as we sat by its flames.
Thinking on days gone by, and certain people with forgotten names.
Talking of life and all that we’ve learned.
And of certain deals gone bad and just how badly were we burned.
Thinking on good times as well as the bad.
Sometimes we make happy, sometimes we make sad.
It’s all about choices, the ones that are given and the ones that we make.
The ones given freely, the ones that we take.
We are lucky to be living in a country so free.
As we watch smoke billowing thru leaves of this old hickory tree.
One thought came to mind and was spoken out loud.
As a citizen of America, I’m honored and proud.
And as we reminiscence on our families, especially our wives.
We’d be nowhere without them, they brighten our lives.
This kinship and loyalty to our country, should be given freely without being told.
If we do this, then democracy and freedom will be ours to cherish and to hold.
Keep God on the front page in all that we do.
And He’ll keep standing for the Red, White, & Blue.
