Fireworks and gunfire
People say that you can’t tell the difference
of a scream of joy
from a scream of pain.
A scream of pain is a scream of anger
Guttural, loud, violent ,
Gunfire that is ricocheting
Through your mind, body, soul.
A scream of joy is a breath of fresh air,
A sense of calm that is washed over you.
While screaming your body erupts
into the flames of thousands of fireworks
that shine so bright everything else melts,
as they melt into the night sky.
Pain is a complex emotion
but so is joy.
Something that consumes you,
yet connects you to reality,
It’s what makes us human.
You can tell the difference between fireworks and gunfire
But what about joy and pain?
With two emotions so similar and wound together,
one would simply not exist without the other.
Listen closely to screams,
They connect us to our souls
and show our true emotions.

No Gunfire
Attitude will always cash checks
faster than those special effects.
Patterned with a cape and latex
hero complex, hero complex.
Whenever the moment is dire
to save the world is your desire.
With a goal of peace to transpire
with no gunfire, with no gunfire.

Haunted by War
Many never come home from battle.
Most come back for war, but not all
come back without being traumatized
by the reality of death and dying.
This fact reminds us of those who are
suffering from post-traumatic syndrome.
He lived the pathos and pain of war
He’s still haunted by blood-flowing
Upon the battlefield
The sounds of gunfire and shells
Bombard his tortured mind
He was just a boy when sent to war
Came back traumatized from being
Upon the battlefield
Still hearing gunfire and shells
Target his tortured mind
He will always bear the pangs of war
Can’t forget his buddies dying
Upon the battlefield
Cut down by gunfire and shells
Left him with tortured mind
He stares at the wall. sees naught but war
And its horror amidst fighting
Upon the battlefield
And facing gunfire and shells
Inside his tortured mind
His life few will ever understand
This hero with a tortured mind

The Gunfire Rages
The gunfire rages
through the cracks
of neighborhood cages
as every fetid tenement ages
and voodoo economics suppress wages
of waitresses, cabbies and sages...
while the slick-shoe alderman engages
in taxing your turnip-blood in stages
and blue-jeaned billionaires decry outrages
of clothes-hanger abortions back-stages
and gang-banger rampages --
as this feckless dog-and-pony upstages
detonated death's tick-tock gauges
