Hydrangeas bloom along the groomed path
at sightly times, and roses, pert and dark,
ring with wedding bells and shadowed veils.
The black hole, in the ground, where she fell in
— petals perpetually mixed with virgin soil.

The dog got into the car
With me willingly, but
Was keening wailing
Before we ever arrived
At the groomers.
She looked at me like I
Was dumping her, which
Is ridiculous since we have
Had her for over five years,
And she is our completely
Spoiled baby.
I mentioned this to
My husband when I returned
Home, and he reminded me
That this dog had been
Dumped by two previous
Owners.
This was a long time
Ago, but apparently, she
Had tapped into this memory.
She returned home, all
Sassy and happy with
A biscuit-shaped bandana
Tied around her little neck.
The first thing she did
Was run up and smell the
Cat good and hard.
The cat Is always stunned
When the dog gets groomed, as
The dog looks like another
Dog.
This time she purred
And gave her a bit
Of neck to sniff.
All is right once again.

There is truth in a mirror
To see a self I haven’t seen
Years of life to travel
There is no holding to what means
I have held on strongly to what meant
And I have given up in totality
And it isn’t because I cannot dream what can
Simply… the world hasn’t an identity
I will never be who I’ll never be
Can you be true to yourself?
Years anew asking who is me?
Have I not a new change to gladly tell?
I am so tired of life
Not for competition but for living
I do not need comfort to survive
Everything everywhere… is always selling
I am well-groom in the mirror
And I try to see myself for the first time
Minutes promising an hour
Can I see a second for that moment to find?

Monday morning and I was looking at the latest bulletin
One had a picture of two suspects for police to attend
I noticed that one was a nice looking young lady smiling
Who before the mug shot had groomed herself beguiling
Standing there was her long hair carefully in place
Over one shoulder in an alluring swath to the left of her face
I suppose it is always essential to look your best for everyone
Particularly if you are robbing stores with a friend and gun.

Rick was an ineptly clad lad
whose wardrobe was shockingly bad.
The he got a sweetheart
with taste like a fine art
who converted him from plain to plaid.

Took Brandy to
dog groomer today,
for a bath and haircut,
she now smells like
a beautiful colorful rose
made in heaven so sweet,
not sure if this new dog
is really her that I brought home,
knowing it really is her
and loving her even more,
if that is possible.

I was not the bastard son with whom
You struggled to survive
I was the second child of a first marriage
Whom you opted to deprive.
He was the emotional one
Always taking mommy’s hand
I was the strong one often
Pretending to understand
“He needs me more than you do,”
Are the words that you would mutter
As you carefully groomed my nemesis
Instead of being my mother
Long drives, you used to take
To clothe him in OP Wear
While taking me to Goodwill,
And I knew it wasn’t fair
You begged him to come with you
When you filed for divorce
While leaving me with an empty house,
Showing no remorse
Years later we connected when I
Didn’t hate you so much
Nothing really changed; for, you
Still lacked a mother’s touch
You made him elaborate meals
in a house so very grand
And proceeded to make excuses
Expecting me again to understand
When you died, it was I who found
You lying on the floor
Because I was the strong one,
Like you said before
The chosen one sold your property
While seemingly not so sad
While I cried for a week straight
For the mother I never had.
