Hollywood Hunter Gatherers

So much of what we do – what we are – is atavistic. We remember, deep in the hippocampus, when we were as free (and as vulnerable) as horses in the field. Predators we, we are also prey, and we can’t forget it. We still inhabit Cape Fear. That’s why we cheer. Gregory Peck tires of being The Hunted and becomes The Hunter.

                                                     fastidiously
on fragile stilts of frail cane
                                                     stealthy crane stands poised

Willie's She

She wants romance with Gregory Peck
But he doesn't come so what the heck?
She loves to neck
And hits the deck
All night long pulsing Zorba le Grec*

*Zorba the Greek- a pulsating tune for all-nighters

It happens in a moment sometimes,
That change in your life you procure,
May not happen during your prime
That moment you forever savour.

A flash in your mind as a spell
As if the world was crystal clear.
To no one else can you sell
How a notion like this could appear.

For life is a series of moments,
Some good, some bad, equal measure.
As the bad you must not lament,
Embrace good as your personal treasure.

These spellbinding moments are few
To cherish, remember, embrace,
The ones where your confidence grew
Emblazoned all over your face.

It might be that life changing career
Some will say it was just down to fate!
Whatever the thought that did steer
Matters not, you did not hesitate.

Guildford Cathedral

A little known fact, one eerie night in this lovely city
The Omen was filmed, 'tis a pity

For I cannot pass the cathedral and appreciate it's beauty
Without thinking of Damien on his devilish duty

Poor Gregory Peck in an undeserving role
Played his father which took it's toll

Sequels two and three were filmed elsewhere
More encounters with Damien we could not bear

A grand and glorious cathedral tainted by the devil's own
In Hollywood's idea of a macabre tone

The uplifting view driving up the road
No longer can I see without forbode

I hope I did not scare you with my tale of sorrow
Goodnight, sweet dreams, we'll meet tomorrow
