A Tribute To President Obama
Wrote this after hearing President Obama's
going away speech last night while in Chicago.
Had been born so I could survive
Then continue on and remain alive
Being thankfully giving God praise
Did things that others would amaze.
Must accomplish much and don't abort
Making sure I never sell myself short
Giving credit to them who do deserve
Off righteous path shall not swerve.
Many gave comfort and support to me
Here in land of brave and home of free
Sometimes I might ever create static
Supporting ideals that are democratic.
Was aware of what was right and wrong
And occasionally I would sing a song
Coming to my mind and setting pace
Oh, how I love to sing "Amazing Grace."
God, while I am on earth down below
All Your power on me, You did bestow
And I was clever not using chicanery
In pyramids will not find a grainery.
I thanked God for gaining His trust
Another way of life go I now must
Many blessed things are left behind
Completed all my duties as assigned.

It's a rainy night in Thorntown
out here on the plain.
The corn is being harvested
so the farmers curse the rain.
Grain trucks race for the grainery
to unload and go for more.
Their tires hum on wet pavement
their engines whine and roar.
Marker lights like shooting stars
as they race on through the night.
Drivers wonder if they'll be home
before the morning light.
While here I sit all snug and warm
sipping a nice hot cup.
Wishing I was out there too
diesel engine revving up.
But I no longer jam the gears
or race the morning sun.
Age has finally caught up with me
my race is almost done.
