My Love, Layla

Your eyes are oceans, of blue and grey
With your gaze, I’m swept away.
An endless sky, of wonder and peace,
I’d stare forever, and all problems would cease

Your hair like strands of golden hay,
Streaks of brown, on gold will lay.
As sunlight strikes, and lights your face,
I know I’ve found, my special place.

Your mind is wondrous, and full of dreams,
The wild and crazy, and dreams I’ve not seen.
How much I can’t wait, to follow with you,
And make your dreams, all come true.

Your smile so radiant, and full of care,
My eyes attract, I just want to stare.
Your smile could light, the darkest room,
To bring glowing warmth, to a void of gloom.

I love you Layla, and till my end I will,
When my heart grows old, and then turns still.
I’ll still love you, more than you’ll know,
As each day will pass, my love will grow.

My Love In Candlelight

My Love In Candlelight (c) by Russ Dodson 1963, 1985, 2025

The burning candle flickers low
and in the dancing, darting flame
I see your face and now I know
what longing is, I call your name.

I know you hear but you won't heed
my plaintive cry and all the while
my heart cries out it's greatest need,
you do not speak, you only smile.

This isn't real, it can't be true.
You're with him in some other place!
Yet still I feel your presence near,
and still I see your lovely face.

Again I say you can't be here!
I knock the candle to the floor,
but still within the fluttering flame
I see your face, just as before.

Then the candle, flickers, dying,
as it sheds a waxen tear,
can it be that you are crying,
as if afraid the end is near?

The candle now gives up the fight,
the feeble flame begins to wane
and then goes out, and I was right,
for in the dark you're gone again.

Premium MemberI feel stupid , I still try

I open the door, I made sure to smile .
Although each one has been forced quite a while.

Calm yourself , I say to myself and bury my thoughts in the sand. I'm already talking too much, I try not too, and I want to prove that I can.

I feel stupid when you look my way, in that way. Like I'm your broken other half. I'll only clown and joke around , because I love to hear you laugh.

But I know how our day will end , the same as it always starts, the entire night spent sitting silently, and at the furthest space apart

How much more can one person take , how long will this pain last,. Because I cannot spend another day, pulling splitters from my heart .

Your Hand in Mine

Under the cherry blossoms, we stand,
Your hand in mine, soft as the sand.
The world is loud, yet here it’s still,
Our hearts in tune, our spirits thrill.

We giggle softly, sharing a look,
Like secret pages in a book.
Your laugh, a melody so sweet,
It makes my heart skip every beat.

The way you smile, the way time flies,
I see soft skies in your eyes.
They hold a world so calm and bright,
Like stars that sparkle through the night.

With every step, the world feels bright,
Like stars that twinkle through the night.
We’ll write our story, me and you,
Beneath a sky that’s always blue.

Cherry Red

Cherries stain her fingers bright,
Deep and dark as midnight wine.
She pops them slow between her lips,
Her smile lazy, soft, divine.

The window's cracked to summer air,
The city sighing, fast asleep.
She smokes and laughs, her lashes low,
Her secrets folded warm and deep.

The cigarette burns slow and thin,
Forgotten in her careless hand;
I lean to kiss the cherry taste
And feel her breathing where I stand.

Her teeth are gentle on my skin,
Her lips a quiet, glowing spark;
She bites, she soothes, she bites again—
The night is soft, the hour dark.

The clock has stilled, the world is far,
Just cherry pits and curling smoke.
The moon is pale against the glass,
And every kiss a promise spoke.

We stay until the sky turns gray,
Our shoulders bare, our feet entwined,
And every cherry, every kiss,
Is sweet and slow and wholly mine.

To my complacent Ms. Crane

I am at odds my love, your comely visage has my heart rend. I struggle somewhere betwixt carnality and a fervent want of your attention. Oh! Ms. Crane, I do so labor for your love. The muse runs foolhardy across every page, and on stage I act the jester just to catch a glimpse of that sweet Southern smile. I do so aspire to taste the nectar of your kiss. All this time apart has my heart yearning, even imploring your touch. I beseech your name to stop the tribulation, to ease the travailing of my heart. My belle I don't say these things in comfort, I adamantly long for a union of our souls, and a harmony played on our heartstrings. As God is my witness, love is our destination, however our journey begins with us. I query of your heart oh misfortuned women, what perplexes your heart? What clutters your mind's thoughts? Is it I? My only desire is your happiness. I too, see happiness as my endeavor. So this leaves us at a crossroad. Shall we be a blessed union, or do we wander trodden thoroughfare?

Preemptively yours
Michael

I waited and I waited just in case she’d been delayed
I stood there feeling foolish, though I acted undismayed
A movie and some popcorn might have won her pretty smile
And I was very keen and so I waited quite a while

Perhaps she didn’t like the fact I had a missing tooth
I’d heard another one would grow and hoped that was the truth
I hoped to tell Jemima of the money that I’d found…
“Hid my tooth under my pillow and it turned into a pound.”

Jemima, as my girlfriend wasn’t stretching much belief
I didn’t have much money, but I had a lot teeth
Losing one seemed scary, but the outcome could be great
Because, you see, the tooth fairy was paying for our date

But then I felt a flutter as Jemima said “Hello.”
She covered up her mouth and said, “There’s something you should know,
I’ve also lost a tooth and now I’m ugly as a witch.”
I said, “And I’m a warlock but, with all these teeth, we’re rich.”

For Her

you get home from a work
greeted with a smile
a hug and i'll hold you for a while
i'll ask how it's been
and you'll give me an answer
that's nothing short of true
we'll go to bed
and greet each other in the morning
rather than every blue moon
and i'll smile
knowing i can hold you again
even if it's only for a little while
you'll laugh
and i'll be reminded
how i love you so
talks of getting married
i promise
i won't ever go
you'll say thanks
for me doing a little chore
i'll say thanks
for loving me often
and loving me some more

For Only You

since i met you
it's always been you
the one i go to sleep and dream of
you fill my nights with full moons
you've planted seeds in my mind
that you kissed till they bloomed
so please
leave your lips on my pillow
next to the scent of your perfume
i hope you stay for a while my love
for you teach my mind to be kinder
cause sometimes
i get down on myself
but your smile serves as a reminder
to keep my head above water
and that's the power of people
if love is a drug then
i've been stuck by your needle
and i know it's mutual
cause when you speak
i can see it in your pupils
like a little candle that's lit
and as it flickers and sits
i see your mind glow alive
as the flicker laces and faces
my lips
i'm holding a candle too
a bright butane blue
and although
i was the one who sparked it
my love
it stays a flame
for only you

My first girl friend’s name was Billie.
she wore dresses that were short and frilly.
Her beautiful smile,
Would others beguile,
but toward other boys she could be chilly.

Overflowing Heart

We haven’t shared a lifetime,
but these days feel profound,
Each moment wrapped in laughter,
your voice, the sweetest sound.

You make me smile so deeply,
my soul lights up anew,
A heart once calm, now brimming,
overflows, all thanks to you.

You joke about your brilliance,
as if it’s hard to see,
But, love, you’re breathtaking—
you’re everything to me.

You’ve shown me care and kindness
in ways I’ve never known,
A garden full of blossoms,
from seeds you’ve gently sown.

So let me tell you, plainly,
what words could never show:
You are my joy, my wonder,
my heart’s unending glow.

Whispers of Forever

From the moment our paths intertwined,
It felt as if the universe sighed in relief,
As though every star had waited patiently,
For your light to cross into my orbit.

In your presence, my heart beats softer,
Not out of weakness, but in reverence,
To the beauty that exists in your smile,
And the kindness you carry so effortlessly.

Your eyes hold a language I am learning,
One of warmth, depth, and wonder.
Each glance pulls me deeper,
Into a world I never knew I craved.

It may be soon to give these words wings,
To name what blooms so fiercely inside me.
But know, with every unspoken syllable,
They linger in the air between us,
Softer than a breath, stronger than a promise.

You hold my heart—
Not as a fragile thing to be handled,
But as the core of who I am,
A gift freely given, without condition,
To the one who makes it beat anew.

If the future is a song yet unwritten,
I hope your melody fills every note.
For now, let these words wrap around you,
A quiet echo of all you mean to me,
And all you will ever mean.

Her

How did I get favoured by the Gods,
To end up with such a gorgeous,
Individual like her.
Oh how magnificent she looks,
How wouldn’t one fall for,
Those sparkling black eyes of her,
Or those luscious lips of her,
 And her mellifluous voice;
And that dazzling smile of her.
I feel blessed to have her in my life.

Premium MemberCourting in the Digital Age

A message sent, an icon lights the screen,
Her heart skips with a hope—what will he say?
No flowers now, just words in lines between,
A digital courtship, love found this way.

She reads his thoughts, like whispers through the night,
A photo shared, a smile across the miles,
Though screens divide, emotions take their flight,
A growing bond, unseen but full of trials.

He types a pause, then waits for her reply,
No letters sealed, no hands that reach to hold,
Yet hearts connect, and neither can deny
The dance of love in forms both new and bold.

In virtual spaces, sparks ignite the flame,
Two souls entwined, though life is not the same

Robert Sherriff Golf Humor Story

Golf Humor Story
As I sauntered along the lush, green golf course fairways, the player ahead slowed to meet me. With a grin, I inquired, "How's your game shaping up today?"
Turning back, he met my gaze with a hint of exhaustion and replied, "A piece of advice - never spar with your spouse before hitting the greens." He smiled wryly, "Especially if she's a better golfer than you! I'm still trying to recover from the 'hole' situation."
He chuckled softly, "Believe me, my game is not reflecting its true potential out there."
Feel free to share this humorous tale with your golfing friends or on social platforms! It's a story that all golfers, from beginners to pros, can relate to. Sometimes, a touch of fun is all it takes to navigate those challenging rounds with a smile.
