A Limerick Stretch - A Limersix
I have masterminded a Limersix
Not bad for an ageing geriatric
That's writing six lines
In poetry rhyme
And all in good time
You have crafted something simply sublime.

Now that I am seventy-three years old,
people finally treat me with respect.
Graying hair contributes, so I’ve been told,
creating effects, one learns to expect—
doors held open, assistance offered,
discounts given at restaurants and stores.
Smiles exchanged and salutations proffered,
as though we are highly esteemed mentors.
I feel for my colleagues who have baldness,
as many young men share their distinction,
creating confusion to make one guess,
who’s deserving of this recognition.
But we’ll take whatever help we can get,
along this road to our final sunset.

This Shepherd boy hath long lost his flock,
Daydreaming in a daze
Not a thought I gave to the Time on the clock-
For those are the prudish ways!
Live in joy and merriment,
A Happiness without end? Ha!
I could never be more content
Than to have my Youth again!

Our conversation were like children feet
Running up the village lane
Our friendship kiting our words, no discrete
Babble, nothing thought as vain
The suddenly our meanings turn this corner
A little groan, another complaint
The sudden sense the body has gotten older
A stiff joint, a discomfort faint
Someplace in a leg, stomach or the shoulder
The sudden closing of the blinds
And a shivering sense the wind is colder
Despite the summer of our minds
Then the yelling went out from us, the voice
Soft, almost regretful, became
In memories and wishes our hearts rejoice
Our flesh is too old for the game.
