Halloween Meow
Pert black feline bosoms blossom
Stepping its paws nonchalantly
Along the length of the gauntly
Elder-oak; towards mocking owl.
With a sullen pout the sun goes down
Until the twilight hours of dawn.
Black lace caresses the lustrous,
Beguiling Harvest Moon's wondrous
Magical mystique. Leaves glitter
In a spell trance and dance in the
Moonlight whilst an occasional
Owl loudly sings in darkness plight.
The feline extends low and rigid,
Back and forth flicking tail as the
Night bows at the brooding shadows
Of witching hour; whilst its desires
Quench, lips lick forbidding entry
For the whiskered grey country mouse.
Quivering with fear falling, falling, falling,
The moon slowly swallowed up by the sun.
Feline curls its tail around his legs ,
Up into a ball and falls asleep.

Abstract algorithm. Brooding distraction,
cleverly cloaked in digital fleece.
Enigma encoded. Like so many fireflies,
Hastening gauntly heavenward.
Juniper immolation.
Ides jaundiced light.
Kinetic kites, luminescent in the night.
Milky Way mighty, northward pointing,
Occidental wind opens, plumes rising.
Quickened quiet shroud.
Revelation.
Reincarnate.
Souls thin the veil.
Under the upholstered vault,
xylem-charred waste,
Drawn to the yawning zodiac.

Two femmes, gauntly fit in the prime of adulthood.
Short, professional cut on one. The other bore crisp brown curls.
Are they lesbians?
A question birthed of weariness from I, my hips slouched against
the speckled pattern of the countertop.
One approached, and I knew at once the truth.
It was the shorter-haired of the two,
also short on curves and cuteness,
which,
believe me,
is no large insult.
It was, of course, in her eyes: the irreplaceable glint,
that weird flame within some women that burns all
who smell and taste its acrid smoke.
This is not to say that lesbians are not crazy-
there are certainly some demented ones out there-
, but there is a certain breed of straight white woman
that shatters the legends and forges new ones, circulated
among moose lodges and taverns globewide.
She spoke: 'Do you have skim milk?'
For sure, I was right.
