Gagarin Poems

Square and Round

Our precious Earth,
is it square or round after all...?
  Ask Gagarin, he knows well...

Mission

(Based on Space Oddity by David Bowie)

Ground Control to Major Tom.
Ground Control to Major Tom.
Take your protein pills
and put your helmet on.

Watching safely from a distance’s
never been my cup of tea,
so I climbed into a tin can
and may God’s love be with me,

counting down in my head,
check ignition, engine’s on,
like Buzz Aldrin and Gagarin
nothing ventured, nothing won,

just like Major Tom I’m hopin’
ground control can get me home,
even when I lose my way,
spaceship knows which way to go.

Premium MemberFirst Man In Space

As much fame for Yuri Gagarin was never afforded
First man in space in 1961, was Yuri who completed one orbit
A Soviet Air Forces pilot
The acclaim was more quiet
A gigantic achievement but the acclaim was more biased

Non Sense Poetry To Laugh and Think

The woman I loved most
did not love me right
with a gypsy blind knife
Shot a shot in my chest.
Newton took advantage of that
had a dream of an apple
made gravity law perfect ...

Since i was a boy i wanted
be the most complete artist
or be magic and flying horse
to fly in the sky without routes
Gagarin once flew to the moon
stacked in large red balloon
thought the moon was fruit ...

Schools do not teach well
neither to read nor to write
For me, I do it by myself
and I do well and all right
I learned physics in one day.
  Russian English and Theology
even words of love i say

Good friendship is good
It's good for the lungs.
good whiskey is single malt
 "cachaça" and lemon juice
when Jesus had thirst
he sat down in a seat
 drank Jordan river twice

Countryman is a strong
without tasting caviar
umbú juice he drinks
 eats cavia aperea (preá)
Mike Tyson when was weak
got fat eating hamburger
from all the snake bars

ps umbú is a fruit from backwoods of Brazil.

LOSS OF INNOCENCE

Fab four
Psychedelic colors
LSD powered yellow submarine
Ragas and flower children
Great Society
Female Liberation
Black Power
San Francisco
State of innocence - Garden of Eden
Shake off shackles of this earth
Space race
Gagarin Armstrong
Ask not what you can do
With a man on the moon
Ask rather what happened to Camelot
And the limitless power of illusion
Serpent’s destruction of dreams
Khe-Sanh state of siege
Detroit burning
Disunited states

Gagarin and Columbus

GAGARIN AND COLUMBUS

Brave or foolhardy
He was a dreamer of voyages
Into unexplored, unknown, undiscovered country,
The first to pursue the visionary images
That few had even seen clearly.

On an odyssey in void or foam
Many followed his footsteps on
The path  but did not return home;
And fell over the edge of the horizon
With no return to Ithaca’s loam.

The face of an entirely new world
Never before seen mentally or visually :
He reached over the horizon and touched
It, as his voices told him this was all folly,
With no light, no chart unfurled.

……………………………………………………………..

NOTES:

(a) This poem was written to commemorate the 50 th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s
spaceflight.

(b ) Ithaca was the home of Odysseus.

(c) “voices…..folly “ is based on T S ELIOT’S lines in Journey of the Magi.

(d) Gagarin, Columbus, Odysseus, Eliot were all undertaking a journey into the unknown.
