there is a reason i called you tonight
i was thinking of you today
memories of tears and smiles
the life we shared
it's up and downs, and now here we are
friends on different shores
waiting for life to close the book
i just wanted to say how blessed we are
long down this path
and we are the best of friends
that is why i called
we found where our love belonged
so many do not; that saddens me
Oregon 9/4/26
When storms get tumultuous and
Shadows press on your mind.
I stay on my toes, never slithering
From my stance.
I talk to you strong until your
Lights aligned
And walk you through whatever
Predicament.
I keep your self- beliefs loaded
And shield your inner vigor
When shadows lengthen and the day grows still,
I lean into the quiet, soft and deep,
Just pulling up the blankets for a sleep.
It feels like resting after years of work,
Like sitting down when all the chores are done,
No heavy doubts or fears that try to lurk,
Just watching out the window, the fading sun.
My breathing slows, a simple, steady rhythm,
And all the noise inside begins to clear,
I leave the weight of everyday right with them,
And find a strange, gentle stillness here.
No dramatic exit, no pain to fight or mend,
Just letting go, and letting darkness blend.
Are you always there for your friends
Can they depend on you
Or don't you care about others
When trouble and strife happens
Do you walk away, or stay
Life can get tough, we need each other
We need that hug
Be that kind of friend, who really cares
Unconditional love is the answer
World is crazy, gripped by fear
Friends need friends to stay near
We all need love, so share a smile today
A soul that's hungry and never well-fed,
is always searching for something much greater,
a great love whose meaning is ne'er misread,
or destiny whose time arrives much later.
In God and thee I find a hopeful fate,
a future that restores a quiet grace,
and moments in time's endless, flowing state;
where I embrace your beauty's radiant face.
But if the heavens and the stars above,
and all the world were drowned in seas of gloom,
my lines still live forever in thee, my love,
beyond end of days, beyond even doom!
If love transcends all seasons and all times,
then your spring lives on in all of my rhymes.
When luck and fortune flee from my own soul,
and then disaster overwhelms my hope,
and hunger consumes the meal in my bowl,
and poverty and debt hinder my scope,
then I wish myself more rich in spirit,
in wisdom and character more complete,
with God's forgiveness now to inherit,
and grace in place of ruin and defeat.
But I reflect on our time spent together,
that spring we made love under a domed sky
(those happy days seemed to live on forever).
Despair now gone, I sing and let joy fly.
As you now live on in my sonnet's measure,
may all men find in you time's endless treasure.
If my despair can sink ships like a storm,
and my shores are consumed by tidal gloom,
like apples spoiled by a devouring worm,
where rot and mind's decay lead to my doom,
then its poison prevents me from relief
and cure—and the escape from manic death!
This weight of sorrow crushes out my life,
and drains from my lungs God's life-giving breath.
But thou, sweet Rose, restore my soul and joy.
(Grant me your healing grace, your balm, your light.)
If fate grants me one more thing to enjoy,
it is your hand that holds me through the night.
Though life's despair may never quite depart,
I live because you hold me in your heart.

Your stunning beauty, which intensely burns,
warms all of earth's creatures and provides hope;
your glow emits from you by natural turns,
and your rays of life have fresh, boundless scope.
Your young dazzling face, radiant in form,
brilliantly shines like the raw, yellow sun;
and your halo, like an electric storm,
lights up all though your heart's meant just for one.
But Sappho, Tenth Muse, fades before your light.
Her verses dim beside your living flame;
your beauty makes her ancient words burn bright,
and poets find in you their truest name.
Let doubt be silenced by this single line:
of all the Muses, Rose, you are divine.
My dear, like the fragrant bloom, thou art health
and beauty to my soul, and blood to my
dry veins and starving marrow such free wealth
of life which for joy grateful eyes do cry.
Beloved, though far removed from me in years,
and distant in miles, thou art near in heart;
so, love is here and sorrow disappears,
for in spirit we're never far apart.
But though I'm exalted by your rare mind,
and find comfort in your warm words of love,
for which I treasure and so must remind
myself, that we shall always rise above.
Though I am weak, for thee I shall be strong,
my love, for we will triumph before long.
Walking down a country road
I fell upon a baby bear talking with a hare.
They look like they were long time friends that didn't have a care.
How are you today said the baby bear standing up with his arms in the air.
I have a little problem today said the hare
But no one seems to care.
I can't seem to find where I put my carrots yesterday
I have looked everywhere even in the barn in the big stack of hay.
My carrots seem nowhere to be found.
My friend can you please help me track them down.
The two friends wandered off
In search of the carrots,
Along the way they found a trail that led them to a feret.
The ferret had a belly ache
You see he ate all of hare's carrots..
What a naughty feret
How thou hast shaped me, and increased my life,
O Rose! Before, I was a squall, a storm
of melancholy and dark, bitter strife:
a soul already lost like a vile worm
on a dry sidewalk on a hot, sunny day.
Without hope or joy, without faith or God,
I spiraled, and at risk of losing my way,
my hateful heart thought thoughts that none can laud.
But O, dear Rose! Reformed by thee, made whole
once more by thy bottomless love and wide-browed beauty,
I am a new being fashioned by thy sweet soul,
and now transformed through thine unwavering fealty.
Rose, my storm was broken up by thy light,
so that I'm no more a worm in God's sight.
Your beauty for my ashes, like God's grace,
redeems the time which the locusts have eaten;
and feeds the heavens which angels embrace,
to help the vanquished that the world has beaten.
O, Rose! Your face is radiant in form.
Your light shines strong like the raw, yellow sun;
and your halo, like an electric storm,
lights up all though your heart's meant just for one.
But Sappho, the Tenth Muse, pales before you.
Unlike your fame, her great renown lacks force;
and more than hers, your echoes chant anew:
and to poets, you're a golden resource.
Should doubt exist, let this line put to rest:
of all Ten Muses, you are the brightest!
man's trust in his dog runs deep
I rest easy in your keep
my good boy, you've kept me safe
now it's time for you to sleep
If Homer knew Rose, then she'd be the face,
that launched a thousand ships. And the walls of Troy,
which the Greeks tore down, would not fall from grace
if kings and the gods weren't pawns to destroy.
If Rose were Helen, her face would launch ten-
thousand ships—and enlist ten kingdoms more.
For Homer never knew, nor could imagine,
how fairer Rose makes Helen's beauty poor.
But, unlike Homer, I've gazed upon Rose:
her everlasting beauty is greater. Time
can never erase her feature or her pose,
so long as this poem endures as my rhyme!
And so, if Homer knew Rose (like I know her),
Troy would still stand: and have lasted forever!
