To a Love Angler

To a Love Angler

You threw out a baited line
     and hooked
          my heart;
Reeling me in, you promised
     we would
          never part.

That was such a long, long
     time
          ago:
Today, I just meander the river of life
     and go
          with the flow.
Was it just for sport that you threw me back;
or was it because of me
          being just too black?

The Secret Place of Fanny Mcfluff

Little Fanny McFluff was of eight years and so very bright She’d take a book and flashlight and read through the night She would awaken when the sun kissed her high on the brow And smile for her mother when told to milk the cow Her chores were done early, each day, before school She would run for her bus and obey every rule Her lighthearted ways brought smiles to the town For little Fanny McFluff would never sport a frown It was a warm summer day, though, that she was out and around She caught a glimpse of a rabbit and she made not a sound She hoped to then follow to see where it would go She was in for a surprise when she fell down its hole So big and so ample, its home seemed to be The rabbit turned around, surprised then to see A person, no a girl, had entered its lair So quickly it hopped and got out of there Fanny, she liked this place that she found Alone, in this hole, below solid ground She swore, with a flashlight, at night she’d come back With decorations galore, packed in a sack She prettied it up, with an old rug on the floor She brought in some dolls and still had much more Though she could not stand, she stayed on her knees She made it so pretty and minded not the tight squeeze Each day she’d return, with a warm smile on her face As she knew it was hers, it was Fanny’s secret place She’d read and she’d sing, she’d write and she’d play She’d be in that place almost every summer day But, one day a storm had come as a surprise Where water filled the hole and boy did it rise But, Fanny had her time and upset she was not She was ever so grateful for the time that she got Fanny kept that place in her mind and forever in her heart The memories will live on, forever be a part Often many days after, she would sit and recall How there in that place she would have such a ball So, Fanny, to herself locked her secret away She unlocked it fondly almost once everyday It seems that a secret place was not hard to find Fanny McFluff kept her secret place there in her mind

A Winner In Ohana Squash

A Winner in 2017 OHANA Woman Div 1

There I was, on a rollercoaster of anxiety with many an anxious moment...
Each time my player dropped a set against each of her squash opponents...

In the Qfinals she suffered a 3rdset hiccup to a player junior in her years....
Dashing the high hopes that player could wrap up the game in 3 quick sets....
This rival is a fast improving hard hitting junior player, tricky as they all come...
With a superior fitness and combative attitude, she was a constant danger until the game was done...

Next in the semis was another junior, another fast and furious player...
Who won the 1st set easily to set the pace, upped the ante to pressure my squash player....
Somehow my favored one prevailed to counter her opponent's energetic play...
Refusing to be drawn into a chessplay with muscle and brawn and power play...

So she made it to the final, there awaits top seeded player, a former international...
Last year she easily outfoxed and outplayed my player 3-0 in that final...
But for this repeat final, my player started off well and lead by 2sets initially....
Before a 3rd set loss, it was obvious the top seed was exerting control gradually....
My player hopeful was flustered, faulting someone for advising her to vary her game..
I was busy recording, wise enough to let the cookies crumble as it may....

Just managed to warn her that her rival was picking up the pace....
And that a real winner of any squash player should play a thinking varied game...
Luckily she played decisively for a quick lead in the 4th game, raced to 4-0.....
There were some anxious moments as she easily lost a couple of points....
Anxiety was all mine even as my player managed to lead comfortably on points...

She had to do some desperate retrieving and gave away some stroke points...
But long story short, it was one big joyous relief when the game was finally over...
The 4th set was won over, the mission accomplished, what a great feeling all over....
When favored player emerged triumphantly as the winner when all was over...
