Federations Poems | Examples

Winter Hawks

An advent of raptors loiters over mall roofs.
hooded eyes scope the neon-lit spaces,
the concreted waste lands.

We wake to their screams as if this were High Sierra,
not Ohio where parent’s try-out or manage children,
open party stores, hunker through the coming
and going of baby Jesus; de-ice puffer jackets.

Gloom is plowed behind snow dunes.
The red-tails roam in loose federations,
their young, mob-handed and loutish,
the mature work alone,
scything through small birds,
the weakened and walking.

The hawks wing-dance proclaiming their time,
a time of frost-bitten electric barricades,
of bobble hats and mittens,

while unseen, a wind-rattled thorny brier,
recites its litany of seasonal prayers.

Mythic

"Mythic"

Overseeing the savages,
the gods watch from their war room above,
pinning their voodoo dolls on the table

Federations of strange angels
about to cut through
the silver lining

into the bloodied
muck of it all
mythic gods of old

spilling a chilling
new meaning
to it all

Halloween arrived
too early before them,
they have seen it all before

(LadyLabyrinth / 2023)

[Verse 2]
"Shattered fragments of the past
Meet in veins on the stained glass
Like the lifeline in your palm
Red and green reflects the scene
Of a long forgotten dream
There were princes and there were kings

[Pre-Chours]
Now hidden in disguise
Cheap wrappings of lies
Keep your heart alive
With a song from inside

[Verse 3]
Even though we're all alone
We are never on our own
When we're singing, singing
Home, home!"

(excerpt, lyrics of "Israel"/Siouxie & The Banshees, Nov 1980).

Premium MemberThe End of Decency and Modesty

Scrambled legs hopping and jumping
Rear ends jiggling, blood is pumping
Modern dancing in the late 60’s is cool.
Sent more than one lad to military school.

This is outrageous parents were saying.
Bellbottoms and bare bellies had them praying.
Free love announced on cups and signs.
Unexpected fathers not signing dotted lines.

Women sadly left to raise children all alone.
Many in another country, so far from home.
Agent Orange’s residue lingering for generations.
Viet Nam War rivaling Star Trek’s unhappy federations.

Scrambled legs hopping and jumping
Rear ends jiggling, blood is pumping
The end of decency and modesty in many ways.
Yet an exciting time for those of us who survived these days.

Winter Hawks

An advent of raptors haunts the scant gray woods
or loiters over mall roofs.
We wake to their screams as if this were high sierra,
not Ohio where parents try-out or manage children,
open party stores, hunker through the coming
and going of baby Jesus; de-ice puffer jackets,
tend to flocks.

Gloom is plowed behind snow dunes.
The red-tails roam in loose federations.
Their young, mob-handed and loutish,
the mature work in pairs
scything small birds, ripping through
the thinning, the hold-outs,
the weakened and walking.

And the first born listen with the last of us
while the hawks dance proclaiming their time.
A time of fervid litany and electric barricades,
of bobble hats and mittens,
while a black brier
raises bloody thorns in chary praise.

Letter From the Unborn

GRANDMOTHER! Wake up!
Can’t you hear us crying?
We have no voice, yet we cry!

GRANDFATHER! Wake up!
Help us, we’re dying!
You have a choice, yet we die!

So goes the voice of the unborn generation…

Your corruption makes a violent disruption,
Your politicians are ******** technicians,
Your pollution has no solution,
Your avarice is pervasive and
Your leaders are invasive!

GRANDMOTHER! Wake up!

GRANDFATHER! Wake up!

Stop your dismissive sighing!

Fascist federations,
Social degradations,
Despotic arrogations,
Wage slavery plantations,
Patriarchal castigations,
Psychopathic corporations,
Machiavellian machinations,
Oceans full of industrial defecations,
Meaningless fixations on television stations, and your
Diabolical relations in raped and pillaged nations
WILL NOT SUSTAIN THE UNBORN GENERATIONS!
