BLUEBERRY BOAT
I’m going to sea in a blueberry boat
With cellophane sails on cinnamon mast
It could be cold so I’ll take a coat
And In case of a leak some Elastoplast
We shall sail on seas of blueberry blue
with never a clash and no mismatch
You will hardly see us unless you view
With spectacles infrared attach
When cauliflower clouds are in the sky
They shall give us a satiating entree
Then of course the dessert will be blueberry pie
With a creamy cumulus topping soufle
I’ll send you a postcard wherever we land
On finest rice paper so you can then eat
my words, I can recommend them and
You will have a conscience that’s clear and sweet
A life on the sea may not be all calm
The weather can lead you a merry dance
But in case of storms I will have no qualm
With a spare pair of blueberry underpants
So to all you jack tars I say ahoy!
With a yo ho ho and avast below!
When you’re near come across on a breeches buoy
Share blueberry rum on our little bateau
THE ADDICT IN ME
A Blank wall
A blank mind
In the darkness of an alleyway.
Three people sit on fruit boxes.
A Girl, nineteen
A man , forty
And another man thirty something.
A large bottle of water and three glasses
The girl hunkered over a magazine
Cleaning Malawi Gold
Two cigarettes waiting to join the mix
Almost done
A three blade’er rolled
A broken glass pipe filled and pressed
Almost ready
Three pinks tonight
One each to share.
A fire in an old washing machine drum keeps us warm
Street lights cast shadows on a dripping wet tree
At the end of the alley
Chestnuts are popping in the fire
Its time to light up.
Elastoplast to cover your hand
The pinks are crushed
Sprinkled like icing sugar on top of Malawi gold
A box of matches and we are ready to go
Waiting for the rush!
A blank wall
A blank mind
That’s all you get from the bottom of a pipe……
THE UNREPENTANT VIRAGO
Named for a man, my treason’s not my own
My tantalising tales tame his temerity
As I cling to the cliff-hanger
Of my own biopic, my to-be-tested verity
He claims I am inevitable as the ocean
And my head will roll, be beached upon the sand
And he will come and take me by the hand.
I will scream loudly history’s muffling cry
Show female slavery, oppression till he wonders why
The goddess in him was quenched, and died of thirst
He thinks then that I will be the first
To bandage up his Achilles heel with Elastoplast!
Published, I’ m not damned, but live with gumption
I’m here to fix his arrogant presumption.
