Shore Temple

They stood a test of time,
Yet glorified is this shrine,
Build around 700 AD with some submerged and some exposed..
Proudly does she overlook the Bay of Bengal,
As she remains as one of the oldest structural temple,
Who constantly keeps glorifying our ancient scripts,
From the tales of King Hiranyakashipu and his son Prahalada,
Maa Durga as Mahishasurmardini and Lord Shiva along with Nandhi, his mount.
Enshrined in a small rectangular shrine is Anantashayi Vishnu,
With the external walls filled with beautiful carvings of Krishna slaying Kesi,
And dancing over Kaliya and then being seated on his vehicle Garuda.
Mesmerizing is this sight,
When seen when the light is bright,
So make sure that you visit this place, Alright

You Are My Durga

You are the earth and you are the mother
You are my Durga - you can multi-tusk
Of your children, let me be the father
You work really hard, from dawn to dusk

You are my Durga - you can multi-tusk
You play so many roles - in daily chore
You work really hard, from dawn to dusk
Raising children, doing your job and more

You play so many roles - in daily chore
Mother, teacher, daughter, friend, wife and all
Raising children, doing your job and more
You are present - at every beck and call

Mother, teacher, daughter, friend, wife and all
You are perfect in each role you perform
You are present - at every beck and call
Let's worship Durgas and make it a norm

You are perfect in each role you perform
Of your children, let me be the father
Let's worship Durgas and make it a norm
You are the earth and you are the mother

Durga is the principal form of the Goddess, also known as Devi and Shakti in Hinduism. Durga the mahashakti, the form and formless, is the root cause of creation, preservation and annihilation.

Durga Puja

copyright© shonima burman

The blue sky with wispy clouds,
And the birds singing aloud,
The autumn season inviting Goddess Durga,
With happiness followed by a five-days Puja.
The milky white beauty of the ''kaash phool'',
Creating a perfect ambiance of the festival to it's full.
The Goddess finally arrives,
To shower her blessings on our lives.
She is represented in the form of killing a devil,
And it's our belief that she drives away all the evils.
From Sasthi followed by Saptami, Ashtami and Nabami,
The idol of the Goddess is finally immersed in Ganga on Dashami.
The last day is followed by sharing sweets,
And the people awaits another long year for her to arrive.
