It’s Howdy Doody Time!
It’s Howdy Doody Time!
If you know this rhyme so nifty,
Your childhood was probably in a fifty.
Remember the advertisers promoting color TV?
This was when we all had black and white, you and me.
Howdy had forty-eight freckles representing each state of the USA.
Watching him on the tube was what most of us did every day.
Remember Buffalo Bob, Howdy’s Sidekick?
He amused all of us children, he was honest, not slick.
We bought Wonder bread, because they spouted that it was good muster.
Most of us wanted the ballots they printed, to vote for Phineas T. Bluster.
Chief Thunderthud and Chief Featherman kept us honest, us kids.
J. Cornelius Cobb, the shopkeeper kept clowns on the skids.
If you remember anything, this one chant should be incredibly clear.
Let's give a rousing cheer, because Howdy Doody is here!

In a funky store that sells antiques,
I made the coolest find –
A bright red Howdy Doody watch,
The kind you have to wind.
The Howdy Doody Show was on
When I was just a kid
And watching it in black and white
Was what we children did.
Each week a group of lucky tykes
Became part of the show.
Alas, I had the measles when
I had the chance to go.
Nostalgia’s very powerful
And certain things we’ve missed
Are gone forever but not all,
For now upon my wrist
There is the watch that was
The inspiration for this rhyme.
To anyone who asks I’ll say,
“It’s Howdy Doody time!”

I was only five years old
when I was first introduced
to Howdy Doody, a wooden
puppet with a continuous
smile who was manipulated
by an invisible puppeteer who
the peanut gallery of children,
parents and television audience
could never see.
Howdy Doody would seem real
to all during the taping of his show
which shown in black and white and
kept my eyes wide-eyed not
wanting to miss any of the antics
going on with the mc, Buffalo Bob,
and Clarabell, the mischievous clown
who beeped his horn everytime
he wanted attention which was
annoying to all who watched,
especially Buffalo Bob who eyed
him like a hawk making sure he
didn't steal the show from
Howdy Doody or any of their guests
which Clarabell would ignore,
misbehaving like a spoiled child
and sulking when reprimanded
by Buffalo Bob and not like my
Howdy Doody who was on his
best behavior, especially before
his young audience and I as
we sang, 'It's Howdy Doody Time,'
the national anthem of the
peanut gallery making us so
proud that we had a friend in
Howdy Doody, the wooden puppet.

Triumph all the way,
Because its my nephew's first year b'day.
Invitations sent to all via call.
I took initiation ,
As I wanted his b'day to be sensation.
All over the house decorated with radium paper;
And kids were provided with waffer.
Cake was baked by me,
It was very large to see.
Two days I went sleepless,
As I wanted his b'day cake should not be priceless.
Food stuff was ready to take a bite
And sobers can get tight.
My birthday boy came like a king,
Soon the doody head slept on cake before we could sing.
Ah!
Finally his b'day was sensational.

Good Fortune of Bill Doody
By Lake Kilarney, Bill Doody sat
And he was to poor to buy a hat
Wife and grawls starved inside
Just last winter one nearly died.
So sadly sat by himself all alone
A face before him brightly shone
Someone came to help starving Bill
He poured his sorrows out at will.
Can't pay my rent Bill sadly said
And my wife Jody lies sick in bed
Stranger gave to Bill some gold
All his shaking hands could hold.
Quickly he ran to pay his debt
That creditor was amazed to get
Bill received receipt and sped away
Gold turned to cakes that same day.
Bill's bad fortune never came back
Lived in a castle instead of a shack
Was King Donohue I'm willing to bet
Who had helped Bill pay off his debt.

I’m sitting by the river.
It’s a warm and sunny day.
It’s lovely to be out here
Just relaxing in this way.
My jacket is unzipped,
My brand-new book is on my lap,
When suddenly a dog squats down
And takes a mushy crap.
The owner was right next to him;
The dog was on a leash.
I shook my head and silently
Admonished with a “Sheesh!”
His little pile of doggie doo
Was inches from my feet.
It wasn’t what I’d hoped to see
To make my day complete.
Although the owner scooped up
What his rear end had been spitting,
With just one tug they could have moved
Where no one else was sitting.
A gorgeous day can suffer from
A blot upon its beauty
When someone inconsiderate
Ignores her civic duty!

Sitting in the “Peanut Gallery” in the centre of Doodyville
Clutching my Clarabell Clown Marionette , such a Thrill
No tangled strings, on my gift from Mom and Dad Vacing
Buffalo Bob says ”Please put on a show” my Heart Racing
Tight in his right hand my Clarabell holds; the “Talking Horn”
Clarabell”s form of speech : his seltzer bottle filled that Morn,
Hanging from his waist. My Clarabell, Sprayed Clarabell’s Face
I walk Clarabell back to the Gallery, Tears of joy upon my Face
When I got Home my teacher said Bring Clarabell to School
I put on a show, the teacher and the Children say “Harry, that was cool”
Walking through the rubble, I scoop ashes from my bedroom floor
I wonder : did his Horn go off ?, when the fire burst through the Door
My Clarabell saw nine sunsets, ten times Clarabell saw the early morning SUN
Do not shed any tears of Sorrow, Mom and Dad : Bought me another One
