Doffs Poems | Examples

Angst

A lighter moment
doffs his hat
inviting me
to a little chat
engrossed in angst
and emotions deep
I sigh a bit
and dab my cheek
he snuggles down
and draws me near
taking off
my cloak of fear
raising up
his finger-tips
he blows a smile
onto my lips.

Commissioners

Nigh fusions are a happenance
I prefer the stalks shadows of the day
Infinity has a way of peering
tomorrows living for a thrill

Who light the leitmotif
and bonfire my words
Or should I search for an island
to gaze at a cave?

Wherewithals all lustre
scratch holes in my words
A house without a dream
ran naked through the plains

Romeo is lost
Juliet leans closer
Spinoza doffs another theorem
Nature plays trumps
commissions bleed into tweed

Premium MemberLoosing All Senses

He can normally smell a rat or two especially as

They rattle their cage when leaving the ship

Tastes defeat when they have won another day

Cuddles their clever escape of untouchable glory

The scent at the food bank tickles his hungry senses

Christmas choirs herald another day on the street

Before he digs in the trash for flavours of injustice

Compressed in a doorway he nudges his squeeze

Poverty exudes a strange fragrance of survival

Soundbites of austerity jingle in a jar bell of loss

He savours a few mouthfuls of leftover curry

Pinches his skin to decide whether he is still alive

His nostrils fill with indelible whiffs of rotten flesh

Voices in his head compete for a walk on part

From the take away menu distastefully priced

Then he doffs his cap and lets go of the rope …

The King's Arrival

Night's mystical Silence is disrupted
by the melodious tunes of birds.
Grey sky doffs its boring dress
and dons the bright orange hues

The advent of our glorious king,
intimated by the enchanting lights,
that demolish the persistent darkness
and liberate the frozen plants and trees

The fiery rays accord robust zest
make the young poor buds smile,
create the divine music, dawn chorus
and give new hope to all of us.

Thus our majestic king is enthroned
wearing a bright red attire
in the midst of yellow-orange sea
and starts off his generous journey

He toils hard from the dawn to the gloaming
just for the welfare of his fellow beings

Premium MemberHitching a Ride

Going deep into the valley as the last rays fade
in the big clearing there waiting for me is Snowflake
now he is a Unicorn that kindly takes me on journeys
to wondrous far off mystical realms that astound

Climbing onto his back we set off at speed of light
soaring high we circled the moon saying how do you do
to the blue cheese man who doffs his hat and bows
then sends beams of bright rays to lighten our path

Then racing a shooting star leaving it far behind
onward to Saturn where we dance through its rings
leaving the best to last we fly on to the lady herself
Venus the enchantress, the planet of love that enthrals

Filled to the brim with the sights and the wonder
we drift down to land hugging Snowflake who wickers
then flies off into the dawn fast becoming a disappearing dot
leaving me to wander homeward drinking in creations miracles
