Direct Current Poems | Examples

Premium MemberCurrent War

A lightbulb conjures Edison
but shines on another,
relevant
in the war of currents, (1)
that another player sparked -
vastly intelligent.
It would be the world's fate
to have its current alternate,
and, too, Tesla spared the elephant. (2)

(1) In the "War of the Currents" in the late 1880s and early 1890s, surrounding the introduction of competing electric power transmission systems, Thomas Edison promoted Direct Current (DC), and Nikola Tesla promoted Alternating Current (AC), which is now the standard for power grids around the world.

(2) Per Wikipedia, "In popular culture, Topsy [the elephant] is often portrayed as being electrocuted in a public demonstration organized by Thomas Edison during the war of the currents to show the dangers of alternating current." However, it goes on to reveal a more complex (but just as horrible) truth.

Essentially

Owner of my desires ...
              I am direct current,
               and Energy Central,
             With my own thermostat ...
             With inner force, repair
             LEVELS OF LOVE DEFECTS
             and feeding daydreams ...
             My driving force
Come from above, I'm a motor
             Metaphysical, Creating Waves
             loving ... vibrating
             human warmth, though
             causing crashes and chills,
             Burning calories in love,
             I am a vortex
of affection, chakra of tenderness ...
Emanating love, I love so much ...!

Premium MemberItches On a Struggling World

The government and its people stay on antagonistic sides
but what stimulates the rulers’ infidelity to patriotism
can easily be bought by any, over the counter.
They are desperately in need
of sailors to guide through the storm
yet for some reasons,
nurture a belief of so called anointed but empty vessels.

Structural human developments
siphoned by leadership’s exhaust pipes,
desecrating humanity’s sanctuary
for corruption to sell in wholesale.
The public treasury flows down
non-stop even bypassing its bladder,
as materialism and the quest for good life
break all of conscience’s administrative protocols.

Survival instincts undergo inflation
for civilization to suffer a recession
to this end, unity’s objections are overruled
by Nepotism and favouritism.
Social growth is blocked
and always in need of foreign catheter.
A direct current links poverty to the mindset and way of life,
giving a clear evidence of an economy
in desperate need of reconstructive surgery.

Premium MemberBatteries

These power packs come in sizes that are various.
The contraptions they supply energy to are numerous.
In flashlights, hearing aids, calculators, and radios,
among other things are where a battery goes.
Direct current comes in D, C, double and triple A.
There are rechargeable ones, and alkalines you throw away.
Each convenient little dry cell entity,
provides an easy means of electricity.
Batteries give machines portability.
What is now commonplace was once a luxury.
One thing has been noticed by this poet.
Batteries are zapped of their strength before you know it.
They do not seem to have too much energy.
Ones we buy today are of inferior quality.
In a short time, I go back to the store,
and spend a small fortune to get some more.
