Of my nose, Pop said, he could not save
Thru his laughter, told me to be brave
Blood hit the ground and froze
Still, it gushed like a hose
Soon after, the dead, rose from the grave
Their pennies popped when they saw the flood
So, they dived on top and dined on blood
But, once they had their fill
They used the rest for swill
And left me face down, drained, in the mud
Then they turned their attention to Pop
He kept screaming and told them to stop
But, they all kept going
One hell of a showing
They said he was good to the last drop

Grown men in fuzzy hats riding three-wheeled bikes
Try to envision oldster type males on oversized trikes.
One was a walrus, you cannot fool me at all, said the Prez
And on his head, of course, he wore the fuzzy red Fez.
We are the Rhiners, the diners, the cool cats, the best!
Their chanting was soon followed up by everyone, such a test.
Except if you did not belong, you had better not try to chime in.
For they would throw snowballs at your head, and at least hit your chin.

just before errands in the city
an egg and bacon breakfast
straight from a greasy griddle
strong coffee perks us
for the coming day
a wire-haired woman sits
at a nearby table for six
in Reggie's Restaurant
where speed and noise dance
to tinkly tunes from knives
forks and spoons
she mumbles to herself
nodding left
prodding fingers right
slapping her knee
a capital clap
that sparks her laughter
what is this flummery?
who is she talking to?
what ghosts enthrall her?
there must be at least five
keeping her company
we quietly crunch
cinnamon raisin toast
sneaking peeks
at this special bag lady
burbling with her buddies
these invisible diners
I wish I could see them too!

Night time moonlit magic,
all-night conversations
in diners intense
uninhibited gaily
sharing secret
stories
listening as
only complete
strangers can
listen.
Unable to face
each other
the morning after
pretending not
to remember …
