Determent Poems | Examples

Walking in the front door with my sisters in tow, the phone on the sideboard in the dining room started ringing incessantly. Upon answering the phone, a very determent voice accosted my ear with, ‘You are the lucky winner in our draw to receive a Life Coat makeover for your house—‘
‘This is not my house …’
‘Well, may I speak to Mr “X”?’
‘No, sorry. My father passed away an hour ago. We have just returned from the hospital—‘
The register in his voice went up an octave: ‘Well, put your mother on the phone, then.’
‘She passed away last week—‘
‘Of all the [expletive] excuses I have ever heard …’ And with that he slammed down the phone.

        don’t judge
                    till you know
                             the story …

I started the day
The way, thousands of days I have
Started before.

The sun had barely risen above the horizon,
It seemed to hesitate for a while, then climbed higher,
Determent was to chase away the remaining
Shadows of the night!

I stood there in silence,
Observing and admiring this magical phenomenon,
Pondering:
How lucky and grateful I am to be still here,
Living,
Thinking,
Feeling,
Loving,
Wondering, and
Dreaming of the future,

Suddenly,

My mood changed,
It became somber then turned gloomy as
I thought of all those people
Who, during the night, had lost this privilege that
We enjoy now:
To be alive!*

*In memory of the thousands of our brothers and sisters around the world who have lost the battle against COVID-19 last night! R.I.P. for a greater privilege than ours waits for you in the heavens!

My soul has left the serene ocean of the eternal

And like a salmon swims upstream

The river's turbulent waters of the temporal,

Determent to overcome any obstacles found

For its destiny to fulfill!

Nouveau

NOUVEAU

                    Let's evaluate this word.
I could not sleep much last night,
so I laid awake thinking about my
                    tenacity in writing.
I think that my need to write is
like having a monkey on my back.
                    To congregate verbs, adjectives,etc,
                    is my cocaine.
The only determent from my obsession
is my comment to be respondent to
sometime grievous moments in my life.
However, like the sun vanishes the night,
and the night drowns the sun, these
horrific moments in life do past, and
the birth from consistency is inconsistency.
I collectively gather up those few peaceful
moments in between and melt away into
my encephalon and create with no real
worries of someone liking what I write,
but , it is always nice to know that they do.

OUR TRACED PATH*

My fellow men,
Travelers are we
On life’s journey well planned in advance
Without our consent,
Let us
Obediently follow our traced path
Resisting not our fate
For
Easier this trip to make!

The Apple of My Eye

Smooth, effervescent glowing skin
Free of blemish and blighting toxin
Undulating curves of glossy satin
Red cloak shrouds comely Saracen

At the core a being of fibrous substance
From stem to sternum burgeoning affluence
Delicately woven fabric with scintillating elegance
At close quarters emanating a sweet fragrance.

A free-flowing stem signaled detachment
A stalky divide prevented rapprochement
Intricate, inner designs forestalled advancement
Coarse, deepening chasm threatened determent.

Forthwith, I loves tender began to preen
Steadily peeling through the stealthy sheen
Cutting to heart's core, affections to glean
Loves' seed from ensconcing barriers did ween.

Bad Stars

Poets speak of them as folly, of love itself,
they say, “Stars are the windows of Heaven”

in their ignorance they cannot see
that stars are the fireflies of Hell.

Stars shine from distant dark with the illusion
of emotion, yet are indifferent to pity.

Like pieces of shook foil confetti
cast over head, in the nuptials of devils.

Evil stars are eyes that probe through skin.
They blink in that all-knowing way

you can feel them like Dante’s inferno,
burning into your psyche from above.
.
Stars see all, even in the dimness. They cast
illumination where it should be forbidden.

Flinging light through the hearts of men,
measuring mans weakness, their hidden sins.

They are determent to spy on the spirit;
on the fortitude of the essence of existence.

They are evil, and eager to scout out souls
for their demon master, his all-knowing eyes.
