A New Years Miracle
“My Story His Glory”

Miracle Man thoughts for
October 31, 2020
A new years miracle that I’m recalling today,
It brings me little comfort recalling this time.
Although God’s mightiness was visibly on display,
clinically dead, I’d heard death bell’s chime.
First the “Widow Maker” then three days later S.C.A.
six times Defibrillation paddles were placed on my chest.
Kidneys had shut down and other things were in play,
this morning I question why God chose me to be blessed.
Later, from a chrome drip frame hung sixteen bags,
each addressing some problem that then existed.
In seven days God reduced to one, these red flags,
and Doctors told my wife a higher power had assisted.
For five missing days, six songs, God’s Choir was singing,
and later upon awakening I didn’t fully understand.
Why others couldn’t hear them, and to life I was clinging,
My cardiologist called me Lazarus, others Miracle Man.

People like us
Stalk the earth
Ordinarily extraordinary
You will smell it, taste it
If you come close
Desire and madness
Poignant, potent
Irrefutable
People like us
Cannot be constrained
By the cages of this world
Rules and restrictions
Do not apply
We are restless, strong
Spirits of the wild
Pacing, hunting
Getting high off each other
People like us
Cry harder
Laugh louder
Sink deeper
Dance wilder
We need more, feel more
Than the others
People like us
Have flashes of brilliance
And bouts of darkness
Electricity off, yet power remaining
Dangerous, shocking
Potentially deadly
People like us
In the right circumstances,
Are heroes, creators of beauty
Even the terrible kind
We are
Life giving, defibrillation paddles
Resuscitating the world
We are
The best kind of people
People like us
You and I

Life is filled with choices
And we pick the ones we get
Though quite often we hear voices
Filled with longing and regret.
We cannot undo decisions
That were carelessly selected
For we’re not allowed revisions
And must stick with those elected.
Still, with much deliberation
We can learn from our mistakes
And provide defibrillation
For the heart that nearly breaks.
So, since time will keep advancing
We must not let hope get lost.
There may yet be cause for dancing
If we keep our fingers crossed.

There’s a red circle on the calendar
It marks the day that
Someone compressed
Your chest
To divert
The squirt
Of blood back to your heart
It didn’t work, of course.
You never quite cared for
Defibrillation.
Or feeling tied down.
Or being needed.
That is why
There’s a red circle on the calendar.
