Learning From Mistakes

Life is filled with choices
And we pick the ones we get
Though quite often we hear voices
Filled with longing and regret.

We cannot undo decisions
That were carelessly selected
For we’re not allowed revisions
And must stick with those elected.

Still, with much deliberation
We can learn from our mistakes
And provide defibrillation
For the heart that nearly breaks.

So, since time will keep advancing
We must not let hope get lost.
There may yet be cause for dancing
If we keep our fingers crossed.

---fingers crossed, but not eyes either. They should never be crossed, only dotted. (T's get crossed). LOL. Nice one, Ilene. Thank God, hope is eternal... ~ Gershon

On my Valentine poem. It's based on my experience with certain married friends who fit my description in the poem! Yes, I am at times cynical, but it's not a dominant trait/ I do enjoy doing good things for others. I can't imagine myself not doing this when opportunity avails itself. Thanks for reading it. / M

Of course, you're right, Ilene, though when I look at human history I see many of the same mistakes repeated, at tikes with greater intensity and determination. I take comfort from a verse in Jeremiah that says: It does not belong to Man to guide his own steps. Human history bears witness to that amply. Thanks for reading about the upstart socialite and her invited "nuts." / M

I love how this poem inspires hope in the end Ilene. Like the old saying "if we don't learn from our mistakes we are bound to repeat them'. Excellent advice! : ) xxoo
