I’m sure ratepayers everywhere
Are aware of the many dangers
Of the cronyism to be found
At their local Council chambers
They build useless monuments
That will never make a buck
For vanity projects of all kinds
To feed egos run amok
All paid for by the taxpayer
Whilst roads and water are forgot
Common sense does not apply
To spend the rates financial pot
Management consultants say
‘Busloads of tourists will come to see’
But they’ve just made the numbers up
And charged outrageous fees
Ratepayers object but are ignored
We are unsophisticated swine
The council knows much better
How to spend your rates and mine
Behind the scenes you can be sure
Handshake deals are being made
Strings are being pulled
And backhanders being paid
Touted as the next big thing
But a hopeless waste of dough
When it fails the ratepayers cry
…………… ‘I bloody told you so!’

It is raining on the Expressway to debt
A temporary snag; we will still pay
The Chinese supervisor steps off set
His local crew have little say
A temporary snag; we will still pay
Three, nay, four generations watch
Our great grandchildren pay, they may
Loans taken with interest at a higher notch
Our great-grandchildren pay, they may
A kick back there, a deal sweetener here
Not consulted? An argument which holds no sway
The Chinese have you in their grip, severe
We have our own cost consultants here
The Chinese have you in their grip, severe
Our representatives were well informed
The verdict : the loan signatories over performed

Why is life so complex?
Why am I feeling vexed?
Pulling one way,
Not feeling one has any say,
Too much involved
For the problem to be solved,
Not wanting to disrupt,
Feeling all is corrupt,
Fire stations closing across the land,
Waving goodbye with a heavy hand,
Hospital consultants contending to be at the top,
All feeling scared they’ll be given the chop,
Large organisations forced to accept a ‘reshuffle’
Making history in one big kerfuffle,
Nostalgia plays heavy in many hearts,
Watching their lives torn into ‘parts’
Thinking of others afar,
With dilemmas of this kind not on a par,
Absent family over the deck,
Drowned children in a shipwreck,
And in war-torn lands, pulled apart
citizens with broken hearts,
Earthquake destroying land in one tear,
People losing hope in prayer,
Solace is not easy to find,
Throughout humankind,
Just a quiet acknowledgment,
That nothing in life is permanent.

Management consultants will loudly proclaim,
"There isn't a crisis that we cannot tame!"
I just wish they'd bother to engage their brain,
So we didn't end up with "ready, fire, aim!"

Experts know it all,
Egos so big they disrupt
Help they could give - me

The NHS has plans to save money
Which ENT consultants won’t follow
They won’t hear of budget cuts
They think the plans quite shallow
Which have got up there noses
And they find them hard to swallow
