Once upon a distant dream you were fit and lean.
Could eat almost anything.
Slam drinks until the vampire's sunrise
but still make the whistle on time.
Now your bloated mirror is the alpha enemy.
You need more naps than a colicky baby.
Even the flats seem like a steep climb uphill.
Your countertop flanked like a mountain of pills.
Some for the mind phantom.
Some for the real ailments.
Piggy backing doctors who don't interact.
it's no longer a balancing act.
it's a swarm of blood shot eyed jackals.
Waiting for your collapse.
Truth is, it didn't happen overnight.
It was a slow decline down a barbed wire slide.
A concoction of snake oil charmers
Big pharma politicians.
Slippery salesmanship...lack of discipline.
Let us not forget about that sinister-sadistic - unforgiver!
Time.

A mackerel sky fillets the village
then hides it in a breezeless blear.
Heads poke out of net drapes
sniff and fish behind trawling curtains.
Shopkeepers brace for
wet dog splatter and spray
from slopping boots and salty puddles.
On the sight-seeing sea
far beyond the shore and shingle,
lost fog horns are lowing deep
like colicky cattle.
Later, misty reeks will be scoured
from groggy docks.
Hauling hands will rope together
tide-tossed tubs,
then tired feet will trudge to taprooms
where the brackish parts
of codgers and young alike
can be oiled and quenched.

First- born, most ultimate delight -
So beautiful, so talented, so bright.
The joy, the mother hasn’t known yet.
Yet now she knows it’s harder done than said.
Nothing, except the baby’s bum, was smooth:
First colicky, first Tylenol, first tooth,
First diarrhea and first constipation
Left no spare time for idle admiration.
Trimming nails took enormous concentration,
Diaper change- an infinite rotation,
Sleepless nights and sleepless days 24/7
For that reason alone I’d go to Heaven!
First laugh, first porridge, and first apple juice,
Milk in the bottle! Boobs became old news!
Mom finally restores her faith and love
In coffee, pickles, coke and spicy stuff.
The first-born baby now reached 21!
It was, no doubt, easier said than done
Those sleepless nights and days 24/7
I wouldn’t trade for Paradise in Heaven!!!
NOW MY FIRST-BORN GRANDSON STEVEN
MAKES UP FOR IT AND MAKES IT EVEN!!!

He wanted a word so I gave him a sentence.
She wanted a spoon, so I gave her a ladle.
They wanted to get married, so I found them a preacher.
I am one of those “I-can-do-everything” gals.
She asked for a can of peas, so I took her a pallet.
He said he could use a piece of paper, so I threw him a notebook.
They wanted to get divorced, so I helped find them a lawyer.
I am one of those “of-course-I-can” gals.
She asked for a pencil, so I gave her a pencil case full of them.
He said he had never painted a picture, so I gave him canvas and paints.
They wanted a baby, so I gave them mine.
She was colicky, and they did not keep her long
But this gave me a bit of a nap.

Should I never see you it would be too soon.
Have you ever learned to be polite enough to ask permission to use someone else's stuff?
Diluting the contents with water isn't going to hide your sin.
Please o please go away and stay.
Yet like a bad penny you keep coming back.
Wasn't it bad enough stealing my medication?
Oh that I could say these things without a house full of drama.
I need a vacation, I need out of here and when I return can you please be gone?
Yet I know it can't be so.
Please o please go away and stay.
If your mouth is moving, I know you are lying.
Even when there is no good reason to lie, you do.
Oh the pain you cause with all this increased stress.
Please o please go away and stay.
You are like nails across a chalkboard.
The nagging bark of a yapping dog.
The unyielding screams of a colicky babe.
There is no end in sight.
Please o please go away and stay.
Storm clouds on the horizon will bring unending tears of frustration.
Trapped within these four walls like a prisoner in my home.
Please o please go away and stay

A time of violence has pounced upon this country,
Folks are angry, hungry and craving prosperity,
The change they wanted never showed up,
Now, many are sad, melancholy and "tore-up",
The youth are becoming restless because they believe
there is no hope for a promising future,
All they hear is Politicians' lectures,
The wee ones are becoming infested with
feelings of despair, as colicky babies do,
They need to know that safety exists everywhere,
A country without a plan creates angst and restlessness,
Nevertheless, citizens forge ahead with optimism,
despite the whispers of skepticism.
