Near our cogon hut
is a crystal-clear creek
that joyfully splashes
and tumbles down rocks,
eager to quench the thirst
of the parched plains
of our Mother Earth!

Our love as innocent as the cogon blossoms in the valley
As their destination is uncertain and so are we
For this love of ours is young and halfway free
But like the cogon blossoms with the wind we’ll sway
Through the longest day and nights we’ll stay
And if the cogon blossoms will be swept away
Gone with the wind I should say
I’ll hold your hands and kiss it gently
For like the fragile cogon blossoms in a windy day
I’ll be off with the wind but I’ll make way
To return and continue our sweet memories
We’ll wish this cogon blossoms to stay for another century
So other lovers as young as we are will see
Through this soft cogon blossoms
Crown of a tall grass dancing in the valley
These two young hearts in love
Will create another lasting love story

I long to wake up
to a morning of clean, clear skies
and beaming sunlight warming
my cogon hut
at the clearing way down south of
Mount Kitanglad;
I long to gaze up
and marvel at the freedom and frolic
of a wedge of wild ducks
as they glide northwest
above the forest, but will be back
at dusk;
I long to listen
to creeks of crystalling water,
to their joyous music as they playfully
tumble down rocks, stones and pebbles,
seeking to soak into the parched,
thirsty earth.
