chattering chirpers
rambunctiously racing
fireflies like little lanterns
wee wind and raindrops
luscious leafy lovelies
nine p.m. and uproarious
all this called to me, as
I was doing nothing at all

Dew christens morning grass underneath my feet
Chilled senses in the mist, fill of something sweet
Sun teases its reveal, tempting me to pause
Palms in a flurried rush offer their applause
Feathered friends of every sort wing a little wink
Chirpers as they like to sing, hush to take a drink
Touching, as I stop to chat, flowers in a cart
Lending ear to neighbor’s woes, bid to touch my heart
As I walk the paths and trails that colorize my town
I could not for even just one second, wear a frown
Skies of blue agreeable to nature’s every whim
Compliment a crystal lake inviting me to swim
On my walk each morning, as I begin to shine
First remember gratitude for everything that’s mine
Then as every morning joy furthers into view
Better am I able to love everything I do

my hands are cold and the night drifts on
maybe I’ll awake before pre dawn
birds will be chirping , perhaps a song or two
I will see them settle in the morning dew.
should they sing before I wake
tell them I’m resting and there is food to take
stretching their ears for the words I spoke
they’ll soon be aware that I never woke
chirpers will stop, choir will end
all have hopes, searching for their friend

I might like to be a pond someday
In a Cascade mountain green forest and thick.
Sparrows, swallows, chirpers of all kinds
Glide in at dawn to drink and chat.
Trout with bass take afternoon naps--
No hooks to fear if fear they could.
Skitter bugs nimble skipping on me, and
Frogs get noisy at night.
A pond not round, but funny shaped.
Trees fall over into the shallow of my shores.
A lazy one-inch ripple now and then
Kisses my muddy lips.
Mostly sunk logs drift from here to there.
When hikers find me, they will breathe in
Deep the damp dripping with air.
