Talk to Me Rosetted Body
David J Walker
The reminders
Of adventures
Worthy of immortal celebration
displayed in an inked
Hieroglyphs parade
on all locations of
the bodies canvas-like surface
aged and dated
in a once vibrant hue
as the new
faded with time
what was it you were saying
when you were saying mine
I remember the mother
Who tracked every lover
She had ever known
With their names in order
On her forearm
I remember the Carnie
With the carnage of his life
Covering every inch
Of his body
In the black prison ink recording
The everyday strife
I remember the soldier
Growing older
with the battles won and lost
At the cost
Of every member of a
Decimated squad he will
Never be able to forget
Talk to me Rosetted body
Of the reminders and adventures
Of a lifetime

“Clown at the Abyss,” a Tribute to Van Halen
Lyrics inspired by “Everybody Wants Some!!”
You can't get romantic in a carnie line
Ringmaster don't like it, says you're wastin' your time
But everybody wants fun
I want fun too
Everybody wants fun
Baby, how 'bout you?
Yeah, I've seen the people that are lookin' for the trapeze
Yeah, ya spent a lot ya got lost at the Tilt-a-Whirl
But everybody wants fun
I want fun too
Everybody wants fun
How 'bout you?
Oh yeah, uh yeah, yeah, yeah
Everybody wants fun
I want fun too oh
Everybody wants fun
How 'bout you?
Oh, where'd you get that banana-split?
Oh, that, I like it
I like the way that tie runs up the front of your party suit
I've always liked those kind of big floppy shoes
No no no no, don't take 'em off, don't take leave 'em on, leave 'em on
Yeah, that's it, a little more to the right, “snap” good picture
Everybody wants fun
I want fun too
Everybody wants fun
Baby, how 'bout you?
Everybody wants fun
Everybody needs fun
Everybody wants fun
Everybody needs fun (wo)
Money for the photo? I'll pay you for it, what the heck?

He stood before me, giant, brown and hairy,
this animal the biggest of them all!
I didn’t find him all that very scary
though next to me, he stood three times as tall!
My father stood beside me with a look
of deep concern while holding high his gun.
One steady discharge. That was all it took!
My Dad had hit the target. We had won!
That final shot meant Dad had been the best.
The carnie sighed. I jumped around with glee,
then hugged that huge stuffed doggy to my chest,
but Daddy had to carry it for me!
Mom’s “no pet rule” I’d sure had too much of.
At last I had my own big dog to love!
