When I was 70 I wrote a poem whilst here at Gran Canaria but never posted it. So here it is at 72:-
FEELINGS
I wonder where the years have gone
As I sit here on my own
Facebook reminds me it's my birthday right
Many years older and headful of white.
Best wishes from far and wide
Flood in like the tide
Overwhelmed with the expressed love and care
From those that have taken time to share.
I take note of each reply
of friends and others I can justify.
This is not a popularity game I have in mind
My heart is open and always kind.
I suffered a few wounds of the physical and mental kind
Some may never heal in my heart and mind.
Yes, life is full of regrets and if onlys
But we must strive never to be lonely.
Love life, spread joy and always be kind
Then you will enjoy a healthy mind.
Smile and say hello to everyone??
Two weeks of sun at Xmas and new year
Palm Oasis in our nineteenth year
Always a joy around the pool we sat
Never did we think to make a friend
Called Boris the cat
The old chap was friendly and his nose had seen many battles
We called him Boris as he resembled our Prime Minister
His white fur also a mess but not so sinister
He would take his afternoon nap
Curled up on Rita's lap
Both seemed to enjoy each others friendship
Laying in the sun
Now both new friends sharing fun
Two weeks flew by lazy by the pool
But it was now over and time to go
We love you Boris and see you again in two years
You never know
In vegetables, carrot
In fruits, orange
In birds, canary and canaria
In gems, orange opal
In space, starts and ends of daytime
In flowers, orange sunflower.
