This world we inhabit, a giver of life
That on the surface is so rife,
Akin to a tree’s cross-section,
A thin cambium bound by natural selection.
The atmosphere the outer bark that protects
Life below in all respects;
Each animal breath dependent on the discard
Of photosynthesis thrown out without regard.
Water the other oddity of this planet
Parted by continents made mostly of granite.
Life and water deeply connected
Akin to sapwood keeping roots and leaves interconnected.
The moving rocky interior the strong heartwood
Of a Sequoia many ages withstood,
Supporting life on the outside
That is so diversified.
We are like the larvae of beetles
Girdling the trunk of the planet with too many peoples,
Leaving life no room
Sealing our and the Earth's doom.

My heart weakened by its innumerable years
continues to flutter its plangent beats. An
ancient maple tree, its leafless naked branches calls
for me to rest beside its protective scaly bosom,
for it sees a messenger perched upon my shoulder.
I feel its pulsing inner core gently whispering of things forgotten. My tortured troubled intellect fails to comprehend the language of its quintessence.
My shriveled breast listens and its fundamental
makeup comprehends its declaim.
The benevolent and hospitable giant with invisible
web feet bids me to become part of its composition.
My inner self understands its venerable message for
it whimpers like a malnourished neglected infant
waiting impatiently to suckle its mother.
Oh! If only I could creep into its nucleus and curl up
in a fetal position to expiate my sins while transmuting
my nonspiritual body into it’s vibrant sap and feed its
vascular cambium system so that my essence can once again Return to its natural state.

We mine the soils with our wooden picks
cutting slower than any human eye can see
digging for ancient minerals in pockets of water
to send above through a vascular cambium highway
we won't rest again until dormancy or death

Under the tree of learning
of another life, the primitive father arrives.
Casts a spell of wisdom, between sorrow and death
with a speck of tears in circle of beings.
But a rain-soaked serpentine path leads to a ravine.
A talisman reignites the fear of unknown.
Panic grips the roots, branches, green-leaved hopes.
Cambium stops working, cutting the flow of nutrients.
The lady of darkness descends on the boulders
of truth, piercing through the layers of light ruffling
the winds of change.
Devotees splatter the red wine on the cupped palms
of priest and ask, who was responsible
for long life of knife. No reliable intellectual
wants to become a bartender.
Nobody dares to play the Realpolitik.

Cambium will cheat one day
the pace of climb,
snakes will dance
peeling off the skin –
the urgency of moon
to take away the body of victim
from sunscape.
You thrive on a window
switching off the sky.
A quaint reptile walks on the moon.
The medium sits on a black stone
and the mob
burns the house of a lord
Sarracenia, your lip is too large.
for a kiss of death. I am coming down the steps
to drink the acid
