Buy Out Poems

Premium MemberShenanigans and Poppycock

Shenanigans and poppycock -
         the wild wood with unrest.
Will amazon deliver the chest

of acorns and walnuts before Winter sets?
On their “I” phones, those with bushy tails
don’t want to work for nibbles. Kips,

after a long, long, long day of texting,
waiting, shopping. Others hoard or steal
those treasure troves from every tree.

        Collectibles, particularly nasty -
why would a little squirrel want a Barbie,
when a grownup can buy out and store
each box, in perfect shape, for a decade?

“Play with your phone, little kitten.”
Shenanigans and poppycock,
finger-licking goodness of ‘rents,
loving the kits with abominable gifts.

Premium MemberWhat Husbands Want Most of All

Say a kind word to your husband
That's what he wants most of all
Not a gaggle of gifts for his birthday
You don't have to buy out the mall

Compliment him on his appearance
Or say that you appreciate his perseverance
Tell him it makes you happy he's so tidy and neat
That in the house he puts slippers on his feet

Let him know that he's magic for your son
That he's turned him into a real gentleman
Point out just how much his daughter loves him
That she tells you only God is above him

So forget all the knick-knacks and accoutrements
Hubby thrives on kind words and encouragement

Maddish For a Radish

I love a radish in the springtime!
I love a radish in the fall!
I take my car and park it,
There at the farmer's market,
And buy out every radish stall!
If there’s kohlrabi, I’ll buy a few
A tasty turnip I will not eschew,
But I love a radish when the sun’s up,
And even more when it begins to set,
But at the stroke of midnight
There’s nothing else I will bite
Cept’ for all the radish I can get.
And as for parsnips, they make me larf;
And salsify? My gosh I just might barf!
But I love a radish on my waffles,
As filling in my chocolate radish cake,
Tho’ once, while in Calcutta,
I wolfed down radish butta,
and I never will forget the belly-ache!

One Look

You mortgage the future
  with the currency of time

To buy out your fate
  with more meter and rhyme

But one look through the darkness
  past devil and saint

Explodes your true oneness
  —the moment ordained

Ahead, Nothing More

Money and wealth
  used to accompany class

Now more often than not,
  it tends toward the crass

There used to be style
that went along with good luck

Now nouveau riche dogma
  just passes the buck

The internet minions
  and rappers galore

Litter our vision
as they buy out our stores

This newest gold standard
  obsesses with bling

Their knowledge in tatters
  they read not a thing

All intention is focused
  on numbers that climb

Like lasers, they pierce
  the mercurial dime

But time marches onward
  for rich and for poor

Looking back, a past wasted
  —ahead nothing more

Keep On Fracking

Drilling through the Earth's thick core
Drilling till there ain't no more
Fracking goes right through the bore
So cheap gas now
Buy out the store
And all the folks behind the wheel
Just think their fuel a real steal
Frackers though can't work the well
As oil prices drop to Hell
Drillers holes are all just capped
Tools and rigs then tightly wrapped
Can't work for free
And get no pay
May come back some other day
Big oil folks now also cry
Forget offshore
Pass new fields by
And all stays calm
For just a while
But overseas
A big broad smile
Some months pass by
Our guard still down
Till one day
When we're in town
Pump prices up
We start to frown
Too late
We realize our fate
From overseas there's no more flow
So now we have no place to go
The frackers gone
The big boys tight
Can't just start up
To get things right
Keep our fracker folks in mind
If not
We're in a real bind
