*****
What a joy it is to hear my kid's laughter return.
Dancing and bustling around me, I long to churn.
The sight of vacant seats at meals makes me grieve.
Unless, when there are happy events to heave!

My son is an ophidiophile, a lover of snakes
I am a limnophile, a lover of lakes
and a bit of a wordsmith, for I love to write
quite often a nyctophile, because I love the night
I also love the moon, a selenophile am I
a nephophile too, loving clouds in the sky
Then there's javaphile, I'll drink to that
because I'm a coffee loving poet, and that's a fact
I love all my books, the old and the new
the way that they smell, I'm a bibliophile too
A logophile, an astrophile and a lover of dreams
that means I love, so many Philes it seems
There's only one, I've loathed from the start
and that's the pedophile, I despise with my heart.

Virile bibliophile -
Volumes, his vaunted prey -
Vibrant and versatile.
Voracious in a way,
Vastly varied in style.
Versed quite literary,
Vermin literally.

He was known for a puzzling idée fixe
for literature in an array of topics;
Not a citizen of particular themes.
Given to a pursuit of this literary ENTERPRISE,
he would hermit away and ravenously read,
which left him with a pale VISAGE.
He'd dealt with comments of its PERNICIOUS effects,
putting a BLEMISH on his social standing.
Yet, it didn't DAMPEN his spirit.
He didn't shy from upgrading to a learned man.
A mixture of books granted him entrance to
TRAVERSE an ever transforming road,
for which weather had no dampener on.
He was a SENTRY of his own mind,
following the ASTRAL bodies in the night sky,
to channel knowledge into dreams.

The Bibliophile
She works a nine-hour day
Has a couple wines on the way home
And maybe dances with her friends
Then she goes home to an empty house
No family or pets
No friends, roommates or lovers
But, she is never alone
She embraces pirates and lovers
Doctors, nurses and children
She travels the universe every night
She has met Adam, Washington, and Romeo
And she never leaves her bed
She feels the pages of her book caress her
And hold her tight as she shares their words
It is the truest form of love that she can find
And she still has three hundred pages to enjoy it

Livid I was when that nincompoop
stained that page of my book
with tomato sauce, while eating
oh! How horrible! How horrible!
It was just a little dot but still;
definitely not easy to tolerate,
since I am a bibliophile,
enamoured with poetry and essays,
being my idols William Topaz McGonagall
and the Irish-speaker Robert Wilson Lynd!
Oh! It was just a little stain which
blurred no text, made nothing illegible,
but still! My anger ceases not
and I call that man a true clown!

Walking up to the circulation desk,
books in one hand
library card in the other
Sliding books across the shiny, marble counter top
to the woman, who stands tall on the other side
with her mother-of-pearl rimmed glasses
nestled in the crevice of her full bosom
the glasses hang from her neck
on a glass beaded chain
She asks for my card
and without a word I place it in her open palm
I'm holding my breath as
She slides the card smoothly, then frowns
Her lips part and she begins to speak-
But my body's turning
I'm running
I'm running before she gets me
Before she grabs my collar and shakes me
Before I'm locked up for being such a bad bibliophile
There's a hold on my account
I'm banned
I'm black-listed
I'm prohibited
There's a hold on my account
and I can't check out any more books
