What love won’t give you
and you can’t borrow
— you have to steal

Each Blessing

The day I
crossed over
not counting
the years

Fixation
with age
left behind
in arrears

No longer
a number
my thankfulness
spreads

For every
new day
life betroths me
to wed

Ignoring
the time
with each blessing
bestowed

The gate slowly
 opens
its pearls
— all aglow

Shadows Long

A prisoner
of what he didn’t know
 walls grew higher still

His sentence
 no parole in sight
appeal was less than nil

A convict’s tale
his cell is dark
enlightenment denied

To serve each day
in shadows long
— with light condemned to die

Niagara Falls

When form betroths function
— the honeymoon awaits

(Dreamsleep: April, 2024)

Bardstown Musing

A Romantic is always afraid deep inside
expectations will never come true

Chasing a mirage that stays beyond reach
waiting and hoping in lieu…

A Romantic betroths those lies of the heart
in amorous moments to roam

Wooing a dream that’s jilted by sleep
to wander, to wonder—alone

(Dreamsleep: September, 2022)

One Candle Burns

By facing death,
we embrace life more

We see the limits,
each minute core

Seen as a friend,
all life betroths

Each moment treasured,
our loved ones close

And when we face
that final day

A voice more gentle,
bids us sway

Into the dark,
one candle burns

Death’s welcome light
—for our return

(Villanova Pennsylvania: July, 2019)

Mayoss

Cataclysmic nuptials like pebbles fall, between the slats of the grate of dawn
And end to hover 'bove the wave of life's eternal turning grave
Fragmented intention leads us to powdered evolution
The sluice of lies betroths truth's function
As a mayfly's end is met in a ripple
Gaia no longer bares her nipple
Repugnant redundancy metastisizes for all to see
Thru cataracted counteractivity
we bleed therefore we be, before the tree on bended knee
Barking and scratching, wrongly we flee, disagree to disagree
Rhyming schemes now mildly obscene
And lacking originality
To mime a balleen between the stream
Of consciousness's wailing "ANNUNAKI!"
I sip venom a la carte, trip off the chart
This viper snipes, injects it's gripe
Intravenous diffusion, molecular nail-bomb
Keratin inscriptions on the wailing wall, and then some
Conniption, a declaration of frustration and grief,
The sacred beef wedged 'tween my teeth
Which once ran thru fields as the mayfly flew
While I sought to sip the sacred brew.
