We pledged brother and sister organizations that spring. We saw each other
frequently at fraternity/sorority functions, and, in the cafeteria, of course. She
dated a friend of mine and I watched from the sidelines, hoping for another
chance to make a play for her heart. Then while dining and socializing one
evening, a senior member of the fraternity requested that we dance together in
the cafeteria! I know it sounds like an odd request for the cafeteria, but Hatchet
was known for trying to humiliate pledges and didn’t really care about others who
were trying to dine and return to their studies. For me, it was the greatest dance
of my life! Hatchet and about a dozen cronies crooned ‘Frauline’, and I was
dancing with Vicki. And, for that dance, she was “my pretty frauline”. I felt like
Bobby Helms had written that song just for me; for us!
I held her close and asked,” Do you know how to turn?”
“No,” she replied.
“Well, you’re fixin’ to learn!” And I felt like I’d been fooled as we successfully
made a full turn in the aisle between the tables and the milk dispenser. I didn’t
want to let her go!
To this day, I smile when I hear the song!
How gently you folded into my arms
that brief moment we danced.
Your long, black hair fell over my arm
and poured about my elbow.
There was only us, a closeness
too severe to be dismissed.
Closeness so complete
to drive reason to weep.
A dance all too short,
a dance that never ended.
A dance seen by no one,
a dance forgotten;
A dance, just a dance…
TO DANCE WITH YOU SO SLOWLY,
AS WE MOVE ACROSS THE FLOOR,
WE HOLD EACH OTHER TIGHTLY,
WHO COULD HOPE FOR MORE.
TO HOLD YOU CLOSELY TO ME,
TO FEEL YOUR HEARTBEAT RACE,
TO SMELL THE SWEETNESS OF YOUR BODY,
TO SEE YOUR BEAUTIFUL FACE
AS WE MOVE TOGETHER,
TWO SOULS BECOME AS ONE,
I KISS YOUR NECK,YOUR FACE AND LIPS,
IN HOPE YOU WILL RESPOND.
THE MUSIC SOFT AND MELLOW,
ENGULFS OUR VERY SOULS,
BRINGING US EVER CLOSER,
AS WE BOTH PORTRAY OUR ROLES.
TO DANCE WITH YOU FOREVER,
WOULD LIFT MY HEART SO HIGH,
AND HOLD YOU CLOSER TO ME,
WOULD SEEM WE TO COULD FLY.
LISTEN TO MS. BELL CAST A SPELL
The chick can sing, dance and entertain
She’ll sing today’s hits and down memory lane
The lady’s voice is luxurious and so sublime
And of course her melody keeps perfect time
I watch her in awe as she wows a crowd
She’ll sing softly or belt a tune out loud
The woman will wail and set your heart afire
And when she’s done it’s another song you will desire
She’s desirous, delicate and quite demure
Yet and still when she’s done you’ll beg for more
“oh please, my sweet” you’ll beseech her to sing
Because she can sing, dance and do everything
Her talent is ambient, her voice so sweet
And with every song she turns up the heat
I watch her wiggle as all other men do too
And with every performance I hear her talent accrue
So if you want the best forget all the rest
Sit back, relax and listen at beauty’s behest
Her voice will ease your sorrow and pain
And as I said, the chick can sure entertain

Where is my muse?
won’t she come out
to dance a little dance
in between the lines
and underneath the words?
Or has she grown tired
of the minstrel’s tongue,
dancing in circles upon the page?
wish that she would say,
perhaps she’s forgotten
the way we used to play,
or perhaps her silence,
is the answer to my dismay.
