A significantly different day
                 No bread or milk
empty for toilet paper
Reduced opening hours in grocery stores
-  Home insulation with
   respiratory infection
Rationing on medicines
School closes -
no leisure activities
                 No daycare
                 No bus or taxi
                 No traveling abroad
All aboard aircraft and boat
must in quarantine
Large preventive measure
Dramatic cut in hotel beds
The church cancels all services
Closed office buildings
                 No cinema or theater
Today our first victim
as a result of the coronavirus
My deepest condolences to the family

Take my hand, walk with me.
I'll show you fragments from my life.
Its broken sidewalks,silently paved by broken souls,
their anger pent up from a world war.
I'll show you soft winters of a child and his sled.
The burden and frustrations of being a teenager,
in the sixties.
A President murdered,water fountains with signs,
blacks only,whites only.
Cities burning, gas rationing, fear of nuclear annihilation.
My shattered dream and short stint as a professional athlete.
My years on an aircraft carrier that sent pilots to war,
to the old man I am today.
I hitch-hiked across the country,a year lost, or a year spent
and asked nothing from any one, except truth.
I care little for those who think themselves important,
it's a waste of energy and it becomes folly.
I built a business and retired from it,
to hold my grand-children close.
If this poem gives you pause,
then writing it claims its purpose.

Thought Police

Be careful what you say,
be careful who you say it to.
It might be heard...
by someone that does not like it!

They will come to your door,
and even the score,
even if there is no game
involved at all.
They will just call,
on you, that's who,
even if you live at the zoo.

Truth beaten up on the sidelines.
Propaganda given an upper hand.
Media stroking the boss...
of the paper,
the airways,
and the fairways,
no longer fair at all.

Criminals on the streets,
let go for their crimes,
to make room for more important...
lawbreakers,
earth-shakers,
and memory makers.
Fearing their words,
may yet have power,
for even an hour.

Those that do not go along,
with the climate change agenda,
and will not take the shot,
or get the clout
or rub on each other
to get the pox,
like a fox... (in heat)
will be dealt with in the darkness
of powers at their central station.
The moon is full of men,
that have given their lives over,
to cover the reality,
we live in.

The rationing of water,
then food, and gas,
only the beginning...
of the end.

We will all go without,
but don't shout.
Be quiet and accept what is ahead,
the dread enough to fill
the voting ballot box
full of hope...
or treason?

Be Selfish

A selfish man protects his family
        like a guard,he contemplates the welfare
   of his beloved family members,endures pain happily
            THEY ARE A HAPPY FAMILY

             A self obsessed labor focuses
          on his work,pays no heed to others
  accomplish task,within a given time, to grab bonus
             HIS WORK IS FLAWLESS

       A selfish teacher persuades his students
     to assimilate the tough chapters,and make them
   fathom the subject, to gain self esteem and improvement
          STUDENTS BECOME KNOWLEDGABLE

      A selfish politician indoctrinates his followers
   by his bewitching words to procure their full support
 and intentionally resolve their problem to retain his power
         THE COUNTRY FLOURISHES

       The selfish soldiers possess patriotism,sustain
  in the inconsistent weathers,tolerate rain and heat
 to fortify their nation,never allow the opponents to win
           PEOPLE ARE PROTECTED

        We are all inherently selfish,no doubt in that
   Showing concern for our family,friends,pets,nation,
 But,in fact we need to become the selfish human beings
    to take care of the beautiful planet we live, to halt
      the wars between the countries,rationing the food
        with our fellow beings and to share resources
After all,we all belong to one planet.We are already the selfish men,politicians,soldiers and why don't we become selfish human beings?

This is my hundredth poem.
I honestly never thought,I would reach 100. I am so glad to be here.It is all because of the poetry soup members.So many talented poets are here and I am learning a lot from you. More than anything else,it's your encouragement that made me write.Thank you so much for your encouragement and support...

Premium Member The World War Ii Years

For what's it's worth, here's my recollection

Of my young years growing up in Canada in the 40s

Right off the bat, you may think the war years

Were difficult for me and my family

With rationing of food and the everyday necessities of life

I remember my dad dividing up our food in the pantry

And when we used up our share of a certain item like butter

Before the next allotment, we did without

This may sound difficult to believe

This is my recollection... but it wasn't that much of a hardship

This self-imposed rationing was a voluntary thing

No ration police breaking down our door to check us out

As a young lad, they were exciting times

The good guys against the bad guys

We were too young to realize this wasn't a game

People of all ages were dying horrible deaths

It all seemed so distant, so far away

Even though a couple of German U-Boats were detected

A far distant inland down the St. Lawrence River

My memory of that momentous day when both wars ended

Was an overwhelming feeling of joy and exultation

Passed down from the celebrating adults

We in Canada didn't have it bad

But let's all hope and pray that cooler heads prevail

And we don't have another one that could be a war to end all wars

A cataclysmic event so devastating

It would end life on earth as we know it!

Rhyme To Recall Recapture of Romance

Writing relative rhymed rhymes
Rhyming with revival rhythmically rhythm
Is not revue but reviewing my role
To resurrect as requested to revive back romance.
When rhyming my rhymes I can revolve revolutionary robust
Rocking like rocky rocks rolling to the right rendezvous,
but today I recite repose as if I repent,
but rely it you will relish,
because its a rhyme to recall recapture of romance in relationships.

I wrote it to rake up real reign
When raspberries were rasped,
Rationing reverie,
Raucously reading romantic readings regularly.
Becoming a receiver reckon receiving reciprocally gifts,
but this is the recital to recapture romance to recur.

Read this rhyme to refill,refine,reform and refresh romance.
Regain rarefied of relish rained rich rain
Raining rainy with ravishing red roses reddening a red ring around you.
Relieving yourself by reiterating 'I love you Mrs Right',
and wait for the rejoicing remarkably respond to be relayed
'I love you too Mr Right'.
The respond that revealed the resourcefully resource for resurrecting.
I rouse you because I'm roused;
Be a roman and go to Rome
To see real romance,
and you will romp of being romantic,
and really its realistically real

Poppies of Remembrance

Time, to buy our poppies
To remember once again
remember those who died for us
And those who were just maimed
We must also remember
Those, who lost their loved ones
Mothers, sister’s, daughters
Fathers, brothers, son's
What a lot of us can't imagine
What torment that must be
But they all gave their lives for us
To make our country free
In one hundred years
Two wars some endured
lost fathers in the 1st, sons in the last
This fighting is absurd
And still we send our menfolk
To fight the wars abroad
 Please end this madness
I beg thee dear lord...

We think we're in recession
But do we  really know
The hardships that our grandparents
Suffered against the foe
Bombed out of house and home
Nowhere else to go
Then all neighbours rallied round
To help they were not slow
Rationing came about
For food, for clothes, for fuel
From just scrag ends of meat
Made appetizing gruel
Women took over men’s jobs
In factories, farms and such
Blackouts, sirens, shelters
Hardship there was much
Army, air force and navy
Were not the only ones
But fire-fighters, nurses, doctors
Air raid wardens, everyone
They all played some part
In winning against the foe
Many lost their lives
A dreadful way to go
Some might say its better
To die instantly my friends
For many, many suffered
In agony till the end
We can’t possibly imagine
What it's like there at the front
Many months of fighting
With no end in sight
In trenches,
Your comrades all about you lying
Water logged and stinking,
Lying, crying, dying.
So please stand in silence
Remember, remember them
They fought for our freedom
Our women and our men

The Death of the Innocents

The Death of the Innocents

By Elton Camp

About politics or government I take no position
In this, yet another, “horrors of war” composition

My memories of the Second World War are few
My time was occupied with what little kids do

The reasons for rationing were regularly reported
That there was a foreign war that must be supported

The attack on Pearl Harbor I don’t remember at all
Or that President Roosevelt for war on Japan did call

That atomic bombs were dropped, I didn’t know
But learned of it in school much later, though

Playing and riding my tricycle was the thing to do
A Hiroshima child my age was then doing it too

The Japanese child, I haven’t the slightest doubt
As with me, didn’t know what the war was about

I think, with horror, of that child’s searing pain
If he survived, lifelong scars were sure to remain

To praise war, some feel there are reasons to try
Let’s not forget about all the innocents who die

(Written after seeing a child's devastated tricycle on display in a Hiroshima museum)

Premium Member Disinformation Governance Board They Are Taking Away Free Speech

Friends our Government are setting up a Governance board to censor you, tag you, give you a fine, or put you in jail if you voice an opinion they don't like. They hired Nina Jankowicz to monitor all social media. If you don't think the collapse of free speech is here, without sounding rude, your living under a rock. Friends Fertilizer plants are being destroyed. Farmers cannot grow crops because of it. Farmers are also being paid not to grow crops. The biggest export port in the world, in Shanghai is shut down, the seventh largest port in British Columbia also. Like I have been screaming, they are orchestrating food shortages. Why? More control of you. You will have to eat their food which I would starve before eating. Also the supply for gas will diminish and there will be rationing all done on purpose. Get your houses in order. Stock up on food. Move away from the cities, start growing your own food. Start preparing for whats coming. As they call it The Great Reset. If you don't know what that is , please look it up. The New World Order, in other words. They will eliminate cash and bring in the Bitcoin currency for more monitoring of where your spending your money. If you speak against them your funds will vanish. Soon we will loose all power, no phone usage, no electricity, etc . They will blame lets say the Russians or another similar group. Read your bibles especially Revelation. God doesn't lie. He told you in Revelation what is coming. He told you before I did. If you don't know Jesus, now is the most important time to know him, because it is sad to say that those days spoken of Revelation are here now. God bless you all and may the good Lord be with you...

Premium Member Drowning In Debt

He goes through each day
obsessing over how to
increase his earnings.
Times are hard.
He's drowning in debt;
his bills gradually piling up.
Creditors bug him so much,
he feels like screaming;
soon landlord will come knocking.
He consolidated his loans;
it hasn't made much of a difference
He asked his boss for overtime,
nothing doing.
He applied for a second job,
no dice. He's still waiting for a call back.
He wants to start a home business,
but doesn't enough start up cash.
Desperation is gradually setting in.
He's put unneeded clothes
on consignment,
he's holding garage sale,
rationing food,
clipping coupons,
exercising for free,
shopping in thrift stores,
bicycling to work
and he's cut cable television
down to basic. Anything...
to decrease his spending.

The Critically Acclaimed

The fault finding Pertaining to thought Introspect do you think? No words today
My mind's gone away;
Come back another day

~~~~~~~~~
Distress and dismay
Yes come what may;
Not much to say
~~~~~~~~~

Feel the feeling
Flu unravels daze;
Word rationing maze

~~~~~~~~~
Blank face
Blank mind;
Nothing new
~~~~~~~~~

Repossessed plots
Words draining away;
Nothing matters

~~~~~~~~~
Empty vessel here
Not much meaning;
Words cannot fill
~~~~~~~~~

There are days
Times feel empty;
Verses dry up

~~~~~~~~~
Abruptly sometimes
Dry season coughs;
New vintage verses
~~~~~~~~~

Round and round
Blurry moments merge;
Substance evaporates

~~~~~~~~~
Urgency mothers care
Nuances create;
Food for thought
~~~~~~~~~

Feel that feeling
Words run away;
What poetry?

~~~~~~~~~
Writing prompt?
Not much more,
Words bid hasty retreat
Remembering the Henry J
Remembering the Henry J
By Elton Camp
When we speak of an automotive blunder
Most know how Ford’s Edsel went under
But there was another mistake made before
Though few recall that little car anymore
Henry J. Kaiser’s company made a big car
But he thought one cheaper would go far
The magnate thought he saw a reason why
To make a car that was very cheap to buy
So he arranged a federal loan in forty-nine
To make one with a notably cheap design
Thirteen-hundred was its maximum price
So there was no way that it could be nice
So Kaiser decided what it was he should do
Make a car where the components were few
It had a trunk for one’s valuables to hide
Rear seat folds since no lid did he provide
And the only model was a sedan two door
Glove box, armrests, sun visor cost more
Customers got the car home and found
The rear windows wouldn’t roll down
People knew between inexpensive and cheap
The Henry J was seen as a worthless heap
So each year the car’s sales went ever down
For little more, better vehicles were found
Its advertising department went the wrong way
Because gasoline was so very cheap in that day
Hated gas rationing had recently come to an end
Time of plenty and prosperity was about to begin
Henry J’s styling was also a major sales stopper
Many said, “It looks just like a grasshopper.”
The tiny car’s production soon came to an end
But it would have been best if it didn’t begin
Aftermath Isolation
standing here
in this faze of loss
foreshadowing the time ahead
now that you are officially dead
a drink of water will not do
sitting here
in this period of grief
creating an itinerary for the time ahead
now that you are officially dead
a swig of soda will not do
laying here
in this early stage of 'post'
balancing my sanity for the time ahead
now that you are officially dead
a glass of milk will not do
remaining here
in this dusty depression of leftovers
carefully rationing the time ahead
now that you are officially dead
a bottle of old memories strategically blocks my view
