Premium Member Love In My Twenties

Thinking back to my teenage years
my early twenties, falling in love
was so easy.

Truth was a tightrope
of winks and smiles,
of the promise of tomorrow
and today was just fine.

Youth
in its wondrous ignorance
sees art were cans of paint
on a cloth of filth has spilt.

Poetry with a guitar,

the weed that drove
us to the depths of revelations.

Dreams that lived in an endless
stream of contradictions.

The Bee Gees asked
 "How do you mend
a broken heart?"

Oh the broken hearts
I survived with all its drama.

The letters I would write.
She was Bunny
and I was Rab, short
for Rabbit.

Bunny,

“Hearts heal, but your walk
loses a step or two, it loses its flare.

I miss you so much I just want to die!
What happened to us?

It boggles my mind how easily
you let go of US!

Tears flow as I write.
I guess I will survive
but as so much less than I was!

I love you with every beat that is me,
with every drop of blood that I have.

I am only half.
Without you there is no I.

Say Goodbye to who we were for me.
Say it one last time.

Say Goodbye to every part of you
that I will never touch again.

I let you fly and you never came back.
You were never mine.”

Rab!

Of course I would never send it.
Within days I would be dipping
the little redhead’s pigtail in ink.

Those were the days my friend
we thought they would never end.

That was love way back then.
You would climb a mountain with
your bare hands, change your mind
and ride the crest of a wave you caught.

Who knew way back then
in the throes of my anguish,
in the pain of my lost loves,
who knew how grand it was
to be young and in love.

Can you taste Black Cat Gum in the air
it is the perfume of our youth, God Bless!

With the Morning Sun, An Abc Poem,Sonnet

Another morning filled with sun
Beckons the mind to open where,
Clearing the cobwebs has begun,
Dreaming so many words to share.

Enjoy my tea and my muffins
For this is when I’m most at peace
Grab pen and paper, fun begins
Hoping a new poem will release.

Imbedded in my mind are words,
Just wish I could remember some!
Knocking around, but never heard
Laugh it off, someday they will come.

Many thoughts appear thru the night
Never found with the morning light!

Premium Member Sunshine On Leith

The rehearsals are over and now it’s first night
All worked tirelessly for the audience’s delight
It all flows so smoothly – oh what a relief
A fabulous production of ‘Sunshine on Leith’

The show tells the story of the ups and downs in life
Of Scottish couple Rab and Jean his beautiful wife
Soldiers Ally and Davy return from fighting in war
Can Liz and Yvonne find the love they are looking for?

Great singing and acting, graceful ballet dancing too
The cast and crew worked so hard to bring this to you
With a song in each scene - some left your toes a tapping
Each Act was brilliant and had the audience clapping

Written as a tribute for the amazing school production I saw on 5th February

Premium Member Great Escape

Grab the keys let’s get into the car
Raring to go, we won’t travel too far
Everything’s packed inside the car boot
And I’ve meticulously planned our route
To the seaside for a treat this bank holiday

Everyone’s excited as we get on our way
Soon we arrive at glorious golden sands
Children hold buckets and spades in their hands
As they dash to dip their toes in the warm sea
Paddling and playing together so contentedly
Enjoying their free time as a happy family

Premium Member Gifts of the Night

Faint stillness of the night falls swiftly down
and masked raccoons now pillage darkest night.
Fluffed owls with sparkling eyes are flying free
and rabbits, gently moving, sniff the air...
The hounds - from hunter lost - do bay and whine!
Marked deer with spots or racks go pawing trails
and bear cubs ramble near a sparkling stream.
Uncommon moths blink near the lights outside
and possums scramble up the hillside earth.
Soft light of moon obscures the beauty there
and adds romance to this nocturnal scene.
Amid the forest’s trees of pine and oak,
these charms display the gift of God’s design!

Faint STILL-ness OF the NIGHT falls SWIFT-ly DOWN
and MASKED rac-COONS now PIL-lage DARK-est NIGHT
Fluffed OWLS with SPARK-ling EYES are FLY-ing FREE
and RAB-bits, GEN-tly MOV-ing, SNIFF the AIR
The HOUNDS, from HUN-ter LOST, do BAY and WHINE
Marked DEER with SPOTS or RACKS go PAW-ing TRAILS
and BEAR cubs RAM-ble NEAR a SPARK-ling STREAM
Un-COM-mon MOTHS blink NEAR the LIGHTS out-SIDE
and POS-sums SCRAM-bles UP the HILL-side EARTH
Soft LIGHT of MOON ob-SCURES the BEAU-ty THERE
And ADDS ro-MANCE to THIS noc-TURN-al SCENE
a-MID the FOR-est’s TREES of PINE and OAK
these CHARMS dis-PLAY the GIFT of GOD’S de-SIGN

Redneck Easter

I went and bought me some rabbits,
And built a rabbit coop.
Like that Cadbury Bunny has,
‘Cept I got me a group!

And they all’s gonna lay some eggs,
With nice milk chocolate shells!
But they won’t be no coco brown,
‘Cause I prefer pastels!

So I’m gonna feed them Fruit Loops,
And that should do the trick!
They’ll be poppin' out rainbow eggs,
I’m thinkin', pretty quick!

Then I’ll get rich like Cadbury,
And buy me a new truck!
Maybe breed all of them rabbits
With cousin Millie’s duck!

People’d sit up and take notice
Of a bunny that quacks!
They’d storm the Piggly Wiggly for
My multi-colored snacks!

We’ll have us a rainbow Easter,
With chocolate eggs and beer!
Drunk rednecks on a sugar rush,
Can really spread some cheer!

Buy some rainbow chocolate duck eggs,
Then turn on your TV!
There’s a new realty show,
Called Rab-uck Dynasty!

I should have thought of it sooner!
My problems are all solved!
Ain't nothing a redneck can’t do,
When there’s a duck involved!

Living In the City

We take care of the tenants in the buildings where we work everyday
but the owners can't seem to comprehend that we don't make enough pay
as porters, handymen, supers and those who man the front doors
we're just trying to survive in a city which we can no longer afford

We mop their floors, walk their dogs and taxis for them we procure
we fix their sinks, deal with their trash and do so much more
we're not asking for a lot but what they want to give us is a crime
we're just trying to live in the city of which we devote our time

Born and bred New Yorkers or Immigrants from every country
we work hard at our jobs and deserve decent salaries
we came with a contract proposal that was justified and fair
they then came back with some bull s*#t with figures from out of the air

Living in the city in the midst of the struggle and strife
living in the city we're just trying to build a life
doing the best we can with what little we have got
it's now time for the RAB Board to get up off the money pot

Living in the city just raising our families
living in the city with sub par salaries
to the RAB Board we don't want to hear any more of your hype
do the right thing or 32BJ will definitely call a strike

Assyrian Babbler

Emerald shiny baubles
attract wizard eyes ...
Balaam al-Oz
Assyrian acquisitions
be kryptonite-colored vanity
Ownership is an Alexandrian transaction,
a Grecian war rhetoric reaction
Gehazi greedy ...
take all that your Philistine soul see,
as much as your twelve fingers can reach
Sennacherib eyes bald eagle beady,
tilt the full treasure chest pirate empty
Hard diamond negotiator sue for peace,
brook of deceit bubbling sulfuric words acidly
Assyrian babbler
baring the saber sharp tiger teeth
Asking for more and more
shiny baubles ,
more than a Rab-shakeh heart could ever need
Baal belly lust consume:
Pure Pul gluttony, covetous Jareb vomiting
Iscariot greedy ...
betray any and everybody
for the precious metal blood money
Venusian discovery:
Jupiter begat Mars,
typical mythical anti-hero morality
Pharaoh pyramid schemes,
beryl baubles
shining in Caesar’s coffer coffin dreams
Kill the Tyrus body ... then kill the Magog zombie spirit arising:
don't vow pitbull loyalty to a low-born licentious liege
Count the death cost for the Sisera hostile takeover campaign,
calculate the Tartan war price for the protracted siege
Assyrian babbler
don’t wanna pay for the Wall
No more dead presidents
jaded green leaves gon windfall
Assyrian babbler
you’re gonna pay for the Wall
Taxing dead presidents
levee green sacks gon Jericho fall
Assyrian babbler
give the last tour of duty trump call

Abc Poem - Anticipation

Service Buddy' Pt.-1

I look down from heaven and what do I see? *(THIS IS BASED ON A TRUE STORY,)
A body on the battlefield who looks just like me'
Body parts are missing; there is blood everywhere; (I COULDN'T PUT IT ALL IN ONE POEM)
The scene is so ghastly that I can only stop and stare. so bear with me part two is next.
                                                                                                     RAB
Now the memory is returning; how I freely gave my life,
In preserving of democracy for my children and my wife.
Walking with my service buddies when I spotted the grenade,
And quickly dove upon it; what a price I paid'

I see the military funeral, many people gathered 'round.
The mournful sound of "TAPS" as the place me in the ground'
The crowd is now dispersing; please don't leave so fast.
Workmen cover me with dirt and top it off with grass.

At least my world is quiet now: no sound of bursting shell'
That man was right on target when he said "War is hell."
Advances, patrols, and skirmishes, causing quite a fuss.
The object: kill the enemy before he can kill us.

Now it is Memorial Day- and I wait patiently,
To see if anyone comes 'round to remember me.
I see the flags and flowers placed on graves so near.
Yet no one visits me; I'm alone again this year'

I hope my family hasn't forgotten the sacrifices made.
Perhaps their desire for freedom has slowly begun to fade?
I guess they've got their ball-games and picnics- and yet?
I see a uniform approaching- yes, it is a vet'

                                                                             Arthur Ball (H.S.L.P.)
                                                                                END--------------- PART I

Taste a Victory

R-ise of the sun begins,
U-sing its light by dawn;
T-wilight has disappeared,
H-aze is already gone.

D-ay two in March morn, dusk is nowhere in sight;
E-vening shadows fade into the dark of the night.

M-ist passes from view,
A-s the smoke leaves the air;
T-he coal clouds in the sky
A-re turning white up there.

G-rab every opportunity,
A-ct quickly but surely;
D-eny the waste and haste
I-n order to taste a victory.
